Maybe I'm the exception here, and I'm not a fan of strapless dresses myself, but I think she looks lovely.
I think so too. It would have been nice if she'd done more with her hair, like curled it or put it up in a bun, and maybe worn different shoes, but overall she looks pretty and appropriate to the occasion. (And extremely uncomfortable, but tbh I'd probably feel awkward being photographed on a red carpet also.)

FOREVER screaming at how superficial everything is with her. What is with that blue sky ramble? It's not like she even knows anything about nature or the environment. She never names any plants, or mentions wildlife, and I doubt she'd know a bird if it hit her in the face. So how are we actually supposed to believe any of this "oh, the beauty of nature!" nonsense? It's all a lie!!!

Ruby Granger would definitely by bullied/ostracised by most of her peers for her sense of superiority, unfortunate dress sense and sanctimonious attitude
I am very surprised nobody bullied her out of her attitude during high school--- her peers even made her head girl lol

If she had gone to a comprehensive or even grammar school, her high school years would be very different
I'm willing to bet head girl was decided on by teachers, not pupils. There's no way kids would make someone that insufferable head girl. Either that or she wasn't "bullied" as badly as she claims

This has puzzled me for a while. I get that some people aren't TV fans, but Roob's explanation makes it sound as though her problem is lack of concentration. If she can't concentrate for more than 10 minutes on a TV episode then I wonder how she can manage marathon study sessions - or any studying, for that matter.
I’d guess that’s why she’s so obsessed with breaking up all her tasks into little steps and then scheduling them tightly. The problem is, she doesn’t frame it as what it really is - a difficulty concentrating - but instead, makes it out to be the height of efficiency for everyone, and highlights long study days and to-do lists. She probably hopes people will think she can maintain concentration for hours on end while studying, but TV is just so uninteresting that her ”brilliant mind” wearies of it after ten minutes.

That's really sad and frustrating. Can't believe they got rid of their full time counsellors. Think I'll have to Google the Birmingham VC because I've heard nothing about him or the homophobia. My sister's uni seemed to offer decent support. It's one of the Scottish ones, so not sure if that makes a difference.

This is probably true tbh. 😂 Roomba's definitely the type to class her ''Lewis Carroll mood board'' as part of her dissertation work.
Yeah, the Birmingham VC I'm talking about is David Eastwood - idk if the homophobia will be online but having gone to that university, he was not a nice man, and I'm pretty sure he made it very hard for the staff to put forward plans for a staff LGBTQ+ group. The current VC is Adam Tickell, who came straight from Sussex, and you can find his transphobia everywhere so we've just gone from bad to worse tbh.

I'm glad your sister's uni has better support - lack of mental health support is common across most UK universities from what I've heard - and it does make me think that Ruby has probably been failed by them herself (which makes me really sad because she deserves better)

Don't u think its cruel to make fun of someone with an obvious mental disorder? Shouldn't we leave her alone and stop watching her if that's the case? No point in making fun of someone very ill
I just spent half an hour responding to your non-argument in Ali Abdaal's thread, do you really not have anything better to do?

I think it's abundantly clear here that we do care about Ruby in the sense that we don't want her to die and we want her to get better. There's also really very little here that is truly cruel - poking fun is what this website is about, you're at the wrong place if you want to shine sunshine up their asses. Even if Ruby is struggling with something, she is making the choice to broadcast that to the internet, just as she made the choice to take the holocause memorial money and she currently makes the choice to do four Perlego ads in a day.

Also, making fun isn't the same as holding someone accountable. God knows I get held accountable daily despite my mental illnesses. But she's a privileged, wealthy girl whois completely tone deaf to anything happening outside of her bubble. Much like Ali Abdaal, strangely. Funny how that happens.

Oh btw she’s definitely not reading The Brothers Karamazov (don’t you know that’s written by a foreigner?!), she’s reading this book: https://www.panmacmillan.com/authors/marlene-wagmangeller/once-again-to-zelda/9780330536899

It’s a book about interesting literary dedications. I believe it’s one of the many tangents she’s tied into her thesis. (Of course it doesn’t look like she gets anywhere past the first page or so, so it’s probably all for show as usual. She’ll have cribbed the content from somewhere, with someone else’s critical insights.)
Interesting, the book on literary dedications gets slammed on Goodreads for citing Wikipedia in every paragraph: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22208451-once-again-to-zelda A great work to cite in your dissertation, then.

This reviewer might as well be talking about Ruby's essays...

What gets me is how random this is. Ruby would never in a million years watch a Netflix show like Anatomy of a Scandal. Most of her followers are probably too young to watch it anyway. So why did they have her there?
I think it's a combination of Sixteenth not caring and the PR reps for Netflix UK not giving a shit either.

Sixteenth go "Ooh, we can get influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers to advertise your show!" and then tell anyone free to attend, regardless of their audience/suitability just so they can brag about a big brand partnership. Netflix see the follower count and toss them an invite because it costs them essentially nothing. Ruby sees "free stuff" and a chance to lie about something for money and attention and doesn't think twice.

But no consideration is given by anyone involved that the thing they're advertising doesn't suit anyone's brand at all.

Influencers like Ruby or Jack walk the red carpet and feel VARRY important, and everyone else thinks "Who the hell are these people and when will actual celebrities arrive?" Ruby looks like a greedy shill yet again, suddenly showing an interest in something she's never expressed an interest in when there's a brand deal to be had, but will never mention it again. And Sixteenth just look like a cattle market, greedily herding their "talent" to fuctions and brand sponsorships that do not fit their brand in any way.

Nobody comes off looking particularly good really.

I can't comprehend how she's even able to cut out whole paragraphs/do huge rephrasings/more research at this point because her word count will be all over the place. This close to my deadline I was shaving things down like replacing "in spite of" to "despite" to dip below the word count which I was about 10 words over. I can guarantee she's still a long way over it if she's cutting whole sections

He never sees either of them unless it's for a scheduled management-organised event of some kind every six to twelve months though. He's an insufferable douche all on his own.
Ah, management-mandated friendship, my favourite

"Study break"? So...work events are study breaks now?
Soon they'll be timing their sleeps to the Pomodoro method - five minutes every twenty-five minutes, no more no less

"They rebel against the key standards of children's literature" - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Which key standards? 'Key standards' is such weird phrasing to me.
She uses ”key” a lot and I’m pretty sure it just means anything her teacher told her to underline in her class notes

Her Instagram actually distresses me. It’s like watching a sick timeline of some girl who has a progressive illness get more and more frail looking but putting on a brave face. I wonder if any of her family/close friends have actually sat down and had a frank conversation about how obvious her ED has become. I hate how in some photos you can see how dead her eyes are. Like yeah it’s easy to fake having a great life on social media, but you can’t hide everything.

Yes but think how great they'd be as a crime fighting trio
I mean, that's a fourth-rate supervillain team if there ever was one.

Ruby would quickly locked up after she tries to scam Bruce Wayne into donating 10% of his wealth to help her build Holocaust memorials in underfunded state schools around Gotham. Jack wouldn't get much crime done, he'd be too distracted spending most of his time staring at himself in the mirror, with brief breaks to make videos "reviewing" books that he saw Aquaman standing near in a paparazzi photo. And Jade would get tossed straight into Arkham Asylum for being nuttier than a squirrel turd.

This is exactly what I was thinking! For a longer essay or dissertation, fair enough. But didn't she say before that this essay was 2/2.5k or something? I wouldn't want to be wasting precious words on over a page of introduction, let alone titles for each section which add to the word count. Get your main points across and get straight into the analysis instead of this pointless time-wasting waffle.
This is the paper that was supposed to be 2,000 words and she was over the word count by 2,000 words. Can you imagine what she’s cut if the finished product looks like this 😬😬😬

Nope. Pretty sure she’s holding it here
Oh god are you saying that's not a big goodie bag she's holding but her folded-up tailcoat?😂 That would be hilarious omg😂

But apart from that, I think her outfit looks lovely and it's certainly good that she's getting out of her comfort zone a bit! Not like that will solve any of her issues, but still. I just really hope she's getting therapy now that her Axater Years are over because whew she clearly needs help with that ED stuff
