Another staged shot of her suspiciously pristine planner, because Ruby really wants people to believe she's making a tonne of progress on her dissertation and being syooper productive!

This might be more effective if almost all her tasks from the day before weren't incomplete.
'write chapter one' 'chapter one research'. which one is it? research or writing? why is she planning chapter two on the same day? does she not have an outline?

It's her standard M.O.: Ignore the problem until it goes away, and only address it when it becomes too big to ignore.

Her book club seem to have just made excuses for and largely put up with Ruby's long-term vanishing act and word of it hasn't made its way to her comments sections.

Most of her fans aren't aware that she even has a book club, let alone that she ghosted it, so Ruby isn't addressing it because nobody's talking about it in public.

Plus at this point, anything she says to address it aside from "I lost interest because I wasn't the smartest person in the room and this wasn't the ego boost I wanted" would be an obvious lie.

She claims to read multiple books a week and shows herself wasting whole days on mindless procrastination and busywork, so any "I've been too busy to read a book a month and host a single Zoom call" excuses wouldn't fly.
It honestly makes me so angry that she does this and I despise her so much for being such a coward.

Not so much for the book club - I personally don’t care whether she’s involved or not with that - but the refusal to acknowledge how much she has hurt people with her proana content and Holocaust project makes me irrationally angry.

Imo she doesn’t even get a pass for age / inexperience - I’ve seen so many influencers younger than her apologise and take responsibility for their actions when needed.

Ruby fell out of love with the book club as soon as it hit her that she wasn’t going to be the smartest person there. She enlisted she couldn’t compete so she ghosted it completely.

Semi-OT proof of Roobster living rent free in my head I had a dream last night where I was applying for graduate study in Oxford. The waiting room was full of Etonians in tailcoats and the exam consisted of four essays and four songs, performed in Old or Middle English. For the first three, we got the music, but the fourth one had to be adapted to ”any well known pop song of your choice”. I’m mainly familiar with the discography of Sufjan Stevens, and the poem was in 4/4 (which Sufjan doesn’t really do), so I woke up in a cold sweat.

What I would have given to be in those first few Zoom calls she actually hosted. I bet it was a real slap in the face for her.

I had a dream about a giant guinea pig that was about to pounce and squash me. I don't know which nightmare is worse. Perhaps if you get rejected from Oxford that's what happens to you.

How much gifted stuff is she receiving at this point? Her latest story shows that she's been gifted some oat milk. We have people going hungry (as Jack Monroe has highlighted) and instead of giving these things to a food bank, she just keeps taking and taking.

I find this a real problem with influencers. I understand why companies send products to influencers but there are so many food companies that are sending stuff to clearly very wealthy people at the moment and it just seems totally tone-deaf, given the way things are. It feels really icky to see someone in a million-pound house cooking free meals from Hello Fresh and so on, or munching their way through protein bars or jars of expensive nut butter when there are so, so many people now who are struggling to eat. I’d have way more respect for these companies if they gave stuff to a food bank.

Honestly I now actively avoid brands which I see repeatedly gifting food to rich influencers, I find it so gross.

That's what I've always found frustrating about gifted items, especially food - they are being gifted to people with large followings for promotion obviously, but they can afford to buy their own. They don't need to be given freebies.

*Irritated mega rant ahead*

I realised the number one reason I've been finding Ruby's content unwatchable lately. It's the sheer laziness of most of her videos. She puts zero effort into them, lazily recycles the same old footage and contributes nothing of value - they contain no humour (at least not intentionally), no useful advice for students, no actual literature or history content. They're not even aesthetically pleasing most of the time, due to her bad editing skills, the grime of her living conditions and the repetitive shots of her bedroom windows. She has all of these opportunities to make videos about whatever she likes and finds interesting, but skips over every possibility to instead create inane, disorganised content featuring the most superficial 'insights'. This is true even with the things she supposedly likes, e.g. tea. Whenever she does tea or book reviews they manage to be as dull as everything else. I love books, yet found it nearly impossible to sit through that hour-long book video because there was nothing of substance being discussed. At the same time, I have literally zero interest in The Vampire Diaries, but became engrossed in YouTuber Jenny Nicholson's 3-hour video essay. If she can hold my interest for three hours while discussing a subject I don't care about, how can Ruby fail to produce anything vaguely interesting when reviewing some great books? Even her music choices are uninspired.

So yes, after that big chunk of criticism, I am actually returning to the issue of gifted products. Given the lack of care and low quality of her channel, and the fact that Roob clearly has lots of money, I find it actively offensive that she constantly accepts gifted items such as laptops and entire boxes (!) of protein bars. This is made so much worse when you consider how many people are struggling and needing to use food banks. It makes me feel that she either has no awareness or no integrity.

Off-topic but I see so many people discovering Jenny or talking about her lately and I'm so happy. I've been following her for a while and her content deserves all of the attention she's getting. She puts so much effort into it and she has the innate ability to entertain even when talking about obscure things I'd have zero interest in otherwise.

She's like the anti-Ruby: very funny, makes astute and interesting observations about the media she consumes, seems sincere and down-to-earth. 10/10 would visit a theme park with her.

And most importantly she doesn't try to get you to give her money. She hardly ever does paid promotions, I don't even know if she has merch because she never promotes her own stuff either, she doesn't guilt you into becoming a patron, she doesn't promote her other social media profiles. She just appears once in a blue moon, spends two hours rambling about some weird niche thing she found on the Internet, and leaves

What I would have given to be in those first few Zoom calls she actually hosted. I bet it was a real slap in the face for her.
I joined the first one. I don't remember much, but she didn't talk a lot and blanked when someone asked her what her favorite book was. There were a couple girls who REALLY knew what they were talking about and properly analyzing the book, and they kind of took over the meeting.
I know she hosted a second meeting, maybe a third? I don't know if she held any on Discord.

The first meeting was on zoom, so, 40 mins long. Someone told her that if she used her uni email address she could get unlimited zoom calls or something, especially since around 30/40 people joined. She said she'd look into it, but when time came for a second meeting, she said it would have to be 40 mins long and gave some excuse for that.

And then she ghosted.

I know someone made a recap some threads ago.

The fact that she completely ghosted her own book club because there was smarter people in there is insane.
