The mother is involved in all this in a really weird way and lives vicariously through Ruby's success. The mother's Instagram name has the fake last name "Granger" in it, for crying out loud.
I don't think she has in-depth knowledge of.. anything. I think she does most things just for the aesthetic of it all, which must be easy to fake for a weekly video.
I don't really believe in anything she says in any of her videos. Except for the fact that she constantly rereads children's books.

Soooo...I calculated the prices for all the presents Ruby received this Christmas and it adds up to about £800 - bearing in mind some things were from oxfam/depop which have fluctuating prices, and somethings i couldn't find like the bobble hat and the camera lens. £800 is a lot to spend on one person for Christmas but definitely no where near the other YouTubers who show off their 50+ designer presents, so take it as you will I guess

with the stocking I thought she got it from Santa originally lmao nothing wrong with getting a stocking if it’s filled with reasonable things like bath stuff but I do find her stocking weird as she got £30 worth of accessorize, a £20 mouse thing (those were the prices online) and a bunch of other stuff

thing with the youtubers who get loads of designer goods, their audience usually expect it. With ruby however, she has a very young audience who look up to her and often write in her comments how they want to be like her etc. They’re impressionable and she’s meant to be relatable to them. I hope they don’t compare themselves to her as everyone’s financial situation is difference and a lot of her audience are probably not as privileged as her

I have to wonder what her parents think about the whole Christmas (and birthday) gift haul video thing. I will admit that my parents were similarly extravagant at Christmas - or at least, they were until my sister and I got into our twenties and then the whole Christmas thing has become more and more lowkey as we've gotten older. But if I had posted a video online (and with that many followers, no less) essentially bragging about all the stuff my parents were able to give me, they would have been horrified and rather embarrassed.

Watched the gift video last night. Loved her old books and the phone camera device (and that collectible mouse toy - super cute.) She's received so many presents, I'm amazed. Lucky girl. I hope her viewers didn't feel bad about their own Christmas after seeing the amount she's spoiled with. Price of the gifts is a personal thing, there are plenty more people on Youtube with designer items piled on top of each other (Jessie's old gift videos come to mind) but if the family is as loaded as Ruby's, I guess this is how it goes down. I think some of her younger viewers may not grasp how rich her family actually is and end up comparing themselves. I have enjoyed seeing her gifts but I also understand why it was tone deaf in this time of the year where so many ended up having bittersweet holidays with either loss of jobs or loss of loved ones.

I’m the first to be critical of a Ruby but for some families, gift giving is a big deal at Christmas, that’s not to show off or anything but just because sometimes it’s nice to give items that you know people will love. I actually really enjoying watching her what I got for Christmas videos. I find them strangely refreshing from the influencer ones that show the same Stella McCartney trainers and tacky Gucci belts, bags and rings. The presents she’s gifted are thought about and considered rather than buying crap for the sake of it....

Ruby's gifts are lovely but few of them seem appropriate for her age. The yellow dress for example- she only likes it because she's obsessed with acting like a schoolgirl (definitely not in a kinky way 
), the books even seem like coloured children's books she'd want on display. Her family support her acting like a child and it's clearly her only personality trait so they have nothing else to get for her. The way she and Martha act so immaturely at home, and the way Claire speaks to Ruby about that bloody mouse shows how lax their parents are about treating them as adults.
The only age-appropriate thing was the hamper, though most 20 year olds living away for uni would be getting more practical gifts than that. Even then she'll probably set up a tea party for her teddies and dollies, or pretend she's the girl from the little princess sipping tea from a chipped teacup in her squalid, tiny room. Her romanticisation of poverty and suffering really shines through when she shows off so much, it's like she's this troubled, torn person who hates their privileged upbringing and longs to run away to a run down shack to wear tatty clothes and live off crumbs.

Respect where respect is due - I thought Ruby thanking people for spending Christmas alone because it could have saved lives was a nice thing, and it seemed really genuine. Her speech at the beginning though reminded me of the Queen!
