Only just started watching it, but I find it so weird she still gets a stocking at 20 years old - is the stocking an extension of gifts from her parents?

Edit - she just said its from her mum. Still find it kinda weird though?
I’m 26 and my husband and I still do stockings! But they’re filled with random grown-up tit like shampoo refills and socks

Personally it feels worse to me to rabbit on for six minutes about how grateful she is and how material things don't matter and then to gush about all of the THINGS she received. Just say "I'm grateful, I'm lucky, material things aren't the be all and end all, here's what I got" and let that be it. I don't really care that she posted it because I'm nosy and wanted to see what she got because it's a crazy amount of presents for me, but I think her disclaimer is just so insincere. She's just saying what she thinks is the right thing to say.

Also, it's been a while since I read/watched Harry Potter but isn't Hermione's patronus an otter? And Timothy "Chamalet" lmao.
completely agree. I think the drawn-out disclaimer is like beating a dead horse, it just makes it so much worse. Just say “I’m grateful, privileged, this video was highly requested” and MOVE ON.

If I knew a 20-year-old had been given one of those for Christmas, I'd assume they were into some weird kinky tit

I still get a stocking, but it's full of Christmas sweets and chocolate, not expensive/name-brand gifts.

Because I have a lot of time on my hands ( 😅 ), I counted how many gifts she got: including the contents of her stocking, and all the consumables (because they are all branded and therefore expensive), she received 38 presents. Two more than Dudley Dursley got for his 11th birthday, and 30 more than I got haha.

I would be fascinated to see how much it all cost.

I haven’t watched it and frankly, I won’t.
Not after a year when people have lost jobs and been financially vulnerable, I have had family and friends stressing over whether their gifts are ‘enough’ and this is part of the reason. Pressure from consumerism and social media making people feel like they aren’t good enough.

I Would have more respect if she’d just say my most treasured gift this year is... and leave it at that. Even better if she donated to a food bank or charity! Such a platform can highlight the importance of such things; again, I haven’t watched the video so maybe she has (apologies if so).

Anyway, Nobody needs to see the bragging highly requested or not, it is 100% bragging imo.

I haven't watched the video yet. Has she really been given a girls summer uniform dress? Seriously?! Why would you gift something like that to an adult?
I legit thought the summer uniform dress was meant as a joke from Martha, until Ruby said she had it on her depop wishlist.

I really don't understand why an adult would want that. Unless of course she has (a) deep seated issues or (b) into kinky tit.

I’m convinced now, that she is aiming for some kind of acting career, the way she was doing that speech! She is 100% playing up to a character and feeding into what she thinks makes her quirky

I seem to remember Ruby's other gift videos that Martha is always very thoughtful with the gifts she gets for Ruby. But it's hard to tell under how many layers of irony Martha's gift giving is

Can't say I judge Martha for that. If I can't stand an edited 10 minute video of Ruby, I can't imagine living with her

In defence of the dress, tbh I really like the style (not ironically and not as kinky tit 😂), maybe it doesn’t scream childish to me because I think in my country that isn’t really something young girls would wear (?) Idk, I can see how she would simply like the style of it.

I’m in my mid-twenties and my mum still does a stocking for me each year (apart from this year as we didn’t see each other). It’s just tradition - my mum handmade my stocking when I was a toddler and we still use the same one so it’s just kind of nostalgia, you know? But my family isn’t well-off at all so it’s mostly just things like chocolates, maybe some cheap stationery, things like that.

I haven’t watched Ruby’s video yet (I had a crap Christmas and not sure if I can bear someone of Ruby’s privilege showing off her gifts) so am not sure what she had in her stocking... just thought I’d share some of my thoughts :)

wow that basket alone costs as much as all of the presents I got from my parents this year. just... wow.
snap!

I still get a stocking from my mum at 24 to be fair, but that's because she really enjoys finding small, surprise gifts (say 4-5 things like a book, pen, hat, etc.) for my siblings and I because we all ask for something specific for Christmas, haha, and there are no aunts/grandparents/etc. who send gifts. We did discuss when she would stop doing stockings though and I definitely don't envision getting one after say next year. My mum definitely isn't as over-involved or well off as Ruby's but for her it's a little extra thing she enjoys doing at Christmas. I can see why in Ruby's case, in context of all the other million gifts (I haven't seen the video so I'm assuming her other relatives got her things) the stocking seems super extra though.

I mean, it looks like any other bleeping picnic hamper, it just has F&M branding slapped on it. Which doesn't even look that nice imo

I just watched her video and there's a bit where she talks about receiving these mouse plushies which... fine, I get that they may be sort of collectives? But then it shows her mom playing with the mouse and saying "we're gonna have hours of fun aren't we Ruby" and this just bugged me. I don't know what it is exactly but this statement seems like something a parent would say to an 8 year old, not a 20 year old woman. I very often have to remind myself that I am, in fact, younger than Ruby, because when I watch her videos I 100% feel like I am watching somebody younger than me.

One of the most wild things to me watching that video is that her Dad actually went out and bought thoughtful, personalised gifts for her of his own accord. Maybe it says more about my family situation than it does hers but I don’t think my Dad would have the first bloody clue which books I would want lol

So I found it a bit of a guilty pleasure to watch in that way; it’s lovely to see they have such a good relationship. But maybe not the most appropriate thing to share with hundreds of thousands of people at the moment.

So glad this wasn't just me! Even Ruby sounded slightly awkward when she replied, it sounded like she was talking to a small child. It definitely suggests to me that her mum still treats Ruby and Martha as kids not adults, which given they're 20 and 18/19 (?) strikes me as really weird. No surprise Ruby still wants to dress like a child if she's basically treated as one.

I was schooled in the UK and had a dress exactly like the one Ruby was holding up (in a different colour) that I wore in the summer up until secondary school, so for me it's a bit 🧐. I remember holidaying in my parent's home country and really liked the style of some dresses, then my parents explained that's the style for school children there 😁 (but in my defence, I was 15 at the time, not Ruby's age)
