It sounds like she was ultimately swayed by the number of requests (presumably from 12 year olds) for the video. I think I would have felt so uncomfortable making that video that no number of requests could have changed my mind. She must have known that no disclaimer could have possibly helped. Also I know she tried her best with it but honestly saying that she's going to have a "second Christmas" with her grandparents when she can seems spectacularly insensitive given how many people won't have been able to have one christmas this year. She did her best, but it just didn't work.

I'm sure she's trying, and she thinks she's being self-aware and sensitive, but I think the video was a mistake this year. I personally always find these videos tacky, but lots of people like them, so normally I would just accept it and ignore it, but this year there was no way she could make the video in a way that didn't come across badly.

Only just started watching it, but I find it so weird she still gets a stocking at 20 years old - is the stocking an extension of gifts from her parents?

Edit - she just said its from her mum. Still find it kinda weird though?

I’m not defending her by any means, and we are here to snark, but I’m wondering what kind of a disclaimer would be sufficient? I honestly don’t think there’s anything she could say that could entirely undo her privilege, but what grade do we give her for effort? Asking for myself, too, because I feel like I’m a bit BEC about her these days, and that’s not necessarily a way I want to be.
Not posting anything.

Ridiculous to be a 20 year old woman and post your christmas presents.

I still get a stocking from my parents and I’m 25 but mine is filled with shower gel and soap and socks and chocolate, it hasn’t changed much since we were little but we only do a small £25 gift as our main presents now, I would say it’s just what they do as a family

Okay yeah she gets an insane number of presents wtf. This is probably more than all the presents given between my whole family put together lmao. Also because I'm incredibly immature I chuckle every time she says "nut butter". I know it's a thing, but it still gets me, probably due to Ruby's complete innocence whenever she talks about it.

I know these videos have been done on YouTube for years, but I can't help think that if you feel the need to do such a big disclaimer at the beginning of a video, you shouldn't be doing it anyway. The thing she said about being hesitant about doing the video but doing it because of the number of people who had requested it - I wish she'd stuck with her gut! In the real world you wouldn't sit and show someone everything you'd been given for Christmas as an adult. I've seen a couple of posts on social media where people have shown one present that they really love, which I quite enjoy, but to sit and go through them all just sits uncomfortably right now. I've heard the 'I'm not bragging, this was requested' disclaimer used and reworded so many times by so many people that it's just lost meaning.

She could have done some quick Instagram stories of her her favourites of the year so say 5 and then leave it at that

Longtime lurker but there's just something very funny to me about a grown adult saying 'an otter is my patronus' as if those are in any way a real thing 😂

Honestly if your video needs a large disclaimer and still feels tacky, maybe just don't post it. Especially as an adult.

It's so wild to me that she gets so much at her age. My parents and family used to buy me that amount of stuff at age 7. She's very lucky her family can afford to do so much gift-giving (lord knows mine can't), but it also feels like people just kind of grow out of expecting huge Christmas "hauls" as they age? Maybe that's just me. I honestly can't think of any other twenty-somethings I know who still get such an insane amount of presents.
tbh im 19, a uni student, and i still get a lot for christmas. however, i am grateful for everything, Ruby seems out of touch with reality. at the end of the day, i just think it's up to the family whether they want to gift, or are able to gift however many presents. my issue with Ruby is that she seems very tone deaf. while i am aware that i get a lot for christmas in general, i do not brag or tell people. i just wanted to make this point to show that Ruby is just ignorant as duck

This was so tone-deaf, and the disclaimer at the beginning made it even worse. It’s like she knows what she’s doing is wrong, but chooses to post it anyway.
Also is she really the same age as me?? Holy tit.

I'm 25 too and stopped getting stockings probably 10 years ago but thats just me! I guess if its a family thing then I take back saying I find it weird as everyones different :) I do think shower gels etc are probably more appropriate as stocking gifts than what Ruby got though, to be honest, her stocking fillers looked more like main presents

I've never seen her so excitable in a video either, she was beaming all the way through and just genuinely happy which was nice to see.. I just don't really feel like she was that sincere in her disclaimer though, just something about her tone and mannerisms threw me off

I hope none of her younger viewers compare what they got with what Ruby got this year. Shocked to see the price of the picnic basket! My parents would spend £50 max on myself and my brother when we were younger - not sure about now as I just get loads of little gifts rather than a main one from them

I do not celebrate christmas, but I couldn’t imagine doing this with like birthday presents or something. You can put as many disclaimers as you like but if you make a video showing gifts off like that, its always going to come across as bragging

I have to admit I enjoy the what I got for Christmas videos from all the people I watch. I’m just nosy and like to see what people get each other. I also don’t give or receive any Christmas presents anymore so I find them fun to watch.

I do hate the “I’m not bragging in any way!” disclaimers every year though. I understand why they do them but I find them really annoying 😅 As well as saying “I’m so so grateful a million times“

Now I'm over the idiocy of posting the video, I'm prepared to be snarky about the actual gifts 😂 Did anyone else think the books she got were essentially kids books? Enjoying reading anything makes you a bookworm, but given the way she presents herself I was surprised that all the books seemed kinda childish. It's not so much the books themselves that are the issue (if that's what you want to read, awesome), but the way she presents herself as a lit student versus the stuff she actually seems to read. I don't know many 20 year old English students who would want any of that stuff, and it seemed to be the aesthetic of the books she was excited about rather than the content.

Personally it feels worse to me to rabbit on for six minutes about how grateful she is and how material things don't matter and then to gush about all of the THINGS she received. Just say "I'm grateful, I'm lucky, material things aren't the be all and end all, here's what I got" and let that be it. I don't really care that she posted it because I'm nosy and wanted to see what she got because it's a crazy amount of presents for me, but I think her disclaimer is just so insincere. She's just saying what she thinks is the right thing to say.

Also, it's been a while since I read/watched Harry Potter but isn't Hermione's patronus an otter? And Timothy "Chamalet" lmao.
