I read A Little Life after watching Noelle's vlog on it! Couldn't imagine Ruby picking it up ahha
I'd love to see Ruby diversify her reading a little more though, she should challenge herself to read only adult books for a month or something
I bought the book but haven’t worked up the guts to read it yet 😂

Ruby really stays in her comfort zone a LOT.

My experience of studying English at Exeter was that there are so many opportunities to read/study widely! Almost all of my modules were based around postcolonial literatures and film and the staff were amazing. I really hope Ruby goes more down that route in third year as I think it’s actually a worthwhile use of English (for me, studying stuff by old dead white men really did not appeal)

I've been thinking the same thing! My uni offers so many interesting English modules which go way beyond just old cannon stuff (being slightly hypocritical here since my English module this term was Tragedy in the Age of Shakespeare 🙃). I can't believe that so far she's basically taken the most vanilla classes available! Most unis now are really making an effort to introduce more diversity into reading lists because it's been dominated by the old white guys for so long, it blows my mind that she wouldn't want to make the most of that!

She stays in her comfort zone because she's mastered it. If she tries something new she could potentially look like an unintelligent newbie for once and she couldn't possibly cope with that because everyone will dislike her and think less of her for not knowing something! 😅

OT but a little life is amazing, I read it over 2 years ago and it still stays with me, but definitely not the kind of thing for ruby I think she would be traumatized haha

Why does she think “acting” = excessive and horribly cringey eyebrow use? Is she copying Emma Watson in the first three HP movies

Totally agree, especially because A Little Life is oftentimes criticized for being “tragedy p0rn”

She’s an English under grad, she should be doing this regardless, I swear she re reads the Little Princess twice a month or something? I guess it’s because she believes she’s practically Sara Crew - victimised for being “kind” and originally from a “wealthy family” It’s so concerning that she regresses into these child books. Nothing wrong with reading them but you’d expect her reading to be diverse not the same books on repeat. I just don’t get it. To stay relevant after Uni she needs to rebrand ASAP - she should become a book tube channel but considering she can’t even run her book club, I don’t have much hope...

I just took a look at her insta stories and she showed some more of her monologues. I mean good for her she's having fun and stuff if that's what she likes. Still if she already chose to publish these and seemingly wants her "acting" to be seen as wanna be professional, she should put more care into that. Cause why would anyone want to watch her out of breath monologues. Not to mention that in the outcome it looks as if she was portraying one same character - Ruby who's trying to act- rather that the actual character. She should either take a professional classes first and do more versatile act outs with other people to see how it looks like in reality rather than taking all the praise from your minions. These people are legit crazy telling her she should do audiobooks and that she has a chance of professional acting. It will hurt her. She reminds me of me in primary school when I thought that performing monologues in front of the mirror with tons of eyebrow action makes me acting worthy. But she's 20 not 10. It's sad really. The only thing that's bit better are these short lookbook videos, but I don't mean her voiceover, "acting" and the outfits but the video editing itself (not perfect but the best out of anything she posts). But I guess it's Martha's job to edit them actually.

This! The extent of Ruby's "acting" is raising her eyebrows and making her eyes wide, doing a slow sweeping gesture with her hand or clutching her hands to her chest. It's still very Hermione.

I am getting increasingly anxious whenever I see Ruby with a candle. I really wish she’d put them straight before she lights them!

I loved A Little Life and it’s one of the few books I will re-read.
I can’t imagine Ruby reading something like that though. There are topics in that book that she won’t be able to get her head around!

Is she able to choose her modules? When I did English we had to do set modules that ranged from post-colonialism to gothic to feminism etc

I also find Ruby’s monologues cringey. She always seems to choose monologues that are aimed at children, never anything emotionally challenging or profound which would be suited to a 20 year old. Some monologues are absolutely enthralling. I went to see Andrew Scott in Sea Wall - the whole play is a monologue and it was like watching a masterclass in acting. I’m not saying she should match those standards as he’s at the top of his game, but there are plenty of actors the same age as her who would never post themselves online performing such childish material.

I think she wants to go into narrating children’s books... why else would a 20 something year old record herself filming the night before Christmas poem?

It’s mean but I don’t think she’s mature enough to read something like A Little Life either, she’s too sheltered to get a lot of what happens in the book and to truly understand the subject matter

Side note...Her book looks make me cringe. The secondhand embarrassment watching her smile and play with the baubles on the Christmas tree, staring at candles etc 😣 I also feel like it was kind of sloppily filmed?? The lighting, the composition of some of the shots, without going back and comparing for certain, some of the outfits were the same as her latest tea video too

Does anyone know what she was drinking here?? I wish I could insert a video because it looks like she’s eating orange juice

To me, it looks like mango/orange/carrot juice mixed with something else (lemonade perhaps?) and it's started to separate. Just saw the video on IG, seems like something too thick to drink but too thin to 'eat' - a weird clip to keep in quite frankly.

I was just on her profile and noticed she defines herself as an 'anti-bullying advocate' which made me wonder - has she ever spoken out about shukri abdi? or does she only care when white girls get bullied

All she does as an anti-bullying campaign is post her "responding to assumptions" video every year and re-tell her oh so traumatic middle school "bullying. They probably couldn't stand her because she was an annoying tattletale and know-it-all with the same smug air of condescendance and superiority she has now.

Tell me if you think I’m wrong in thinking this, but to me it looked like she was body checking at certain points in that outfit video :/
