I wonder if she put the self published book on her Oxford application and they took a look at it
She must have mentioned it in her personal statement at least!I wonder if she put the self published book on her Oxford application and they took a look at it
that outfit is honestly SO cringeworthyShe really likes that "outfit"
Most definitely that’s why she liked it so much. At Exeter no one cares who she is and she’s no longer the top student. It’s so much more difficult to get noticed.I can't believe how much she misses school. I couldn't wait to leave! I don't miss it at all and disagree with anyone that says that "they're the best years in of your life" I'm happier now (despite the current situation) than I ever was then.
Kinda feels like Ruby only really misses school because she was seen as super clever and teacher's pet. It's a bit concerning she still misses it as much as she does at 20.
I think it's definitely because she was 'someone' at school, and now she's just one of the masses at university. She was 'special' then, and now she's been demoted. I barely ever think about school, let alone wish I was back there.I can't believe how much she misses school. I couldn't wait to leave! I don’t think many uni students will be able to return in January now to be fair, Scotland’s going into full lockdown after Christmas and I doubt England will do much different with the way things are going!I will be very interested to see if she actually returns to Exeter in January like she said she would - tbh, if she can get away with doing university from her cushy home environment, then I bet she will (even if she thinks that that won't look as eager to lecturers).
True, but I have a feeling she never intended to return regardless. I was wondering why she didn't do a distance-learning degree if she loves being at home so much, but then that wouldn't have the 'prestige' of a RG uni (and would seem like a huge step down from Oxford, not that it is of course).I don’t think many uni students will be able to return in January now to be fair, Scotland’s going into full lockdown after Christmas and I doubt England will do much different with the way things are going!
I never hated school, and I miss some of my friends and what school itself was like, I remember loving the last year of sixth form, but I barely think about school now. And to be fair, I am a teacher now so I am still in that environment.I can't believe how much she misses school. I couldn't wait to leave! I think she wanted to go to uni originally, but it hasn’t lived up to her expectations. I can almost see her intercalating for a while in order to stay in education a bit longer.True, but I have a feeling she never intended to return regardless. I actually thought RS suited her better, she doesn't seem to have much of a passion or deep interest in English Literature beyond using it as a personality trait to fit being a "bookworm". Maybe RS wasn't enough work to satisfy her though.I have often wondered if she changed courses so she could stay at uni longer. I know it's a weird thing to assume but I don't know... You can't control how long you're at school for but you can transfer courses and undertake further education if you wish to easily at uni.
Also, I think Oxford would have broken Ruby.
She would have been crushed knowing there are people at the same intelligence or far more intelligent than she is. No longer being the teacher's pet too.
And maybe RS/Theology didn’t fit her “aesthetic” seeing as a lot of people probably don’t consider it a “serious” subject. This is not my opinion on RS/Theology by the way and perhaps I’m being cynical but I don’t know, maybe it didn’t have the right “academic” appeal for what Ruby wants to project to her followers?I actually thought RS suited her better, she doesn't seem to have much of a passion or deep interest in English Literature beyond using it as a personality trait to fit being a "bookworm". Agree on Oxford, she may not know it yet and it may have hurt her pride but her rejection was a blessing.
I wouldn't be surprised if she starts having difficulty making friends as she ages, purely because she's so stuck as the tween version of herself. The maturity gap between her and her peers of similar age is only going to get wider and wider as time goes on. Maybe she's not bothered by that though, as long as she can stay at home and socialise with just her family? It's strange seeing her post all these photos. These are photos she carefully picks and is happy to have on the internet, even though they make her seem 10 years younger than she is. In all the photos she seems to be the youngest in every group, and I had to double check the date she posted with each one because in 2017 she looked and dressed like a 12 year old. There is something seriously off with her maturity- she doesn't even seem to grasp what is socially acceptable for someone her age. Not in the way that a 20 (?) year old must wear makeup and must drive, but just the language she uses and the content she posts- it's like she's oblivious. Her posts now are akin to people's Facebook posts when they're 13 that in 5 years they'll regret and frantically delete.
I also think she found GCSEs and A-Levels easier in the sense that there’s a mark scheme, you memorise a lot of information that’s presented as facts, you regurgitate what you’ve learnt and 100% is achievable. I don’t think she’s coped as well with the move to more independent study and the freedom (and ambiguity) of university study in the arts and humanities. I bloomin’ loved that - we’d be given an essay title and then how we went about answering the question was entirely up to us, but I can see how stressful that would be for someone who’s focussing on the score and being ‘perfect’. You can’t read every journal or book and you’re unlikely to get a definitive ‘right’ answer whatever you do. I think that’s why she is so hung up on being ’original’, but she’s completely misinterpreted what that means at undergraduate level. Her choice of A-Levels struck me as a bit odd and I wonder if she would have been happier studying science or a language at degree level - something with a lot of facts and certainty.I think at one point Ruby did genuinely enjoy studying. Probably GCSE and A level, especially since she was at a small school and will have got so much praise for doing anything. I think going to uni was a massive shock for her, and she lost that love.
