Oh she is absolutely more "light academia" - I think she likes dark academia because of the Oxbridge link and the "pursuit of knowledge" bit. I can't imagine her reading or enjoying Dorian Gray, he's so morally corrupt! She's more cups of tea with a candle because its pretty, and less several shots of whisky deep by candlelight because it's 2am and you're awake and tortured...or you haven't been able to pay the bill this month because nobody understands your tortured writing...(I dated a guy like this once - it was SUCh hard work. Kind of amazing, but hard bloody work...)
I'm not sure why she's decided she wants to do this dark academia thing when she's really not like that at all. It's interesting. But sad, in a way, because I think she is aware that the studytuber thing won't last forever and she's sort of floundering and lost because she's not sure where to go...
Did anyone else catch that at 4:58 she listens to audio books in fast forward? (it's not sped up as her hand movement is still normal speed)

I’ll defend her here, that’s what I do, some books you can’t do it with but a lot you can, once you get used to it, it’s really easy, I do it so I can get through them in a week because I’m busy but a lot of people who listen to audiobooks do it
Ah okay! I wasn't sure if it was common or not as I don't listen to audio books as I find it hard to pay attention/listen/follow what's happening. Must admit, I'm not surprised at all Ruby of all people does it though haha
I listen to mine at like 1.2x speed, Ruby's sounded so much faster than that.
Yeah I do this too, I guess I've just gotten used to it as I can understand them perfectly and I'm able to get few a lot more than I would otherwise.
since she's a studytuber right now what will she do when she finishes uni? i know we discussed she'll go for a masters, but she can't keep doing studying content all her life unless she just keeps going into education.

I wonder if her writing has improved much since Erimentha. The reviews on that were pretty savage lol. She seems like an overly descriptive and wordy writer for the sake of being more productive and having a higher word count, based on what people have said. Hopefully with the next book she publishes she’ll have learned the lesson to get someone to actually edit it and give her solid advice on what to change to make it more readable beforehand.
I do wish she would be more of a booktuber and talk about what she reads as well, rather than the surface level “the 100 books I read this year” type things she usually posts, for crying out loud this girl is supposed to be studying English literature after all. She should mix it up, she’s been doing study related content and routines for years now. Surely there’s no limit of topics related to lit she could cover.

I'm not great writer myself but it's badly written even for the sample. I'm genuinely quite shocked by how bad it actually is and how boring it is as well.

The opening to do list and first paragraph sounds so Ruby like.
the main character just seems insufferable, is she supposed to be likeable? I’d quite like to read the rest just to see where it goes with character development
I want to read it too. But I refuse to pay money to read a bad book.

Yikes I've only seen the sample pages so couldn't comment in depth but that's ill researched at best. I feel like she's so concerned about coming off as knowledgable instead of actually taking a moment to check whether she's actually learning or not. When you're trying to hard to show all that you think you know, you're bound to mess up.
I hope she works with an actual editor who will be honest and blunt with her, if she plans to publish this next book.

Does it annoy anyone else she always adds unnecessary adverbs like 'truly' 'most' or 'very to phrases on her social media? I guess she types how she talks but it always comes across as very pretentious and makes all her writing quite difficult to read as it doesn't flow.
Her latest IG post telling people that she hopes they'll have a 'grateful and kind' Christmas after the Tier 4 announcement the other day has irritated me. I think Hertfordshire is in Tier 4, but it's alright for her to tell people to be happy as she's already at home with the majority of her family around. Others will be spending Christmas unexpectedly alone this year (many of my friends are stuck in student accommodation alone and have no plans for Christmas), so I always feel like these kinds of posts come off as very tone-deaf, like saying: "I know I'm fine and will have a relatively normal Christmas, but I must look like I'm also thinking of the others who won't have as much fun as me".
This! I don't find Ruby as insufferable as a lot of other people on YouTube, but I do think she is very out-of-touch with and quite naive to a lot of other people's realities. She comes from a very privileged position and doesn't really recognise that. There have been a couple of other instances like this as well, like the Instagram post about wanting to live in the 19th century.
