I'm late to the party but can I just say how freakishly Weird that ad for her old school is to me. It just seems so removed from reality, it's wild. I feel like this explains A Lot about Ruby's behaviour, if you come from an environment like that the real world must be a mighty shock to the system, even if it's just the real world in the form of the Exeter bubble. Judging by that ad girls at that school get told over and over again that they're the greatest and that they have a great future because they went to such a great school. Yikes.

A personal highlight for me was the youngest girl saying that "I now pack my school bag myself every night, and I try hard to remember my homework" like that is some brilliant, show-stopping achievement for a student? Like the ad clearly wants to convince parents that this school is worth paying 10.000 pounds in tuition per year because this school will teach your little darling to be so independent and amazing, she'll even be able to pack her own school bag! And not only that, she'll also "try to" remember doing her homework! Clearly, that is some next-level education you could never get at a regular school.

And now I also understand why Ruby was so obsessed with doing a "What's in my school bag" video every few months - clearly this must have been something she got a lot of praise for at her school. Look at star student Ruby Granger, who not only packed her own bag but also remembered to bring a spare pencil! Clearly she is destined for greatness! Oxbridge worthy at the very least!

Would be interesting to see how the students who were in the ad turn out in a few years, and if they'll have similar struggles to Ruby's lmao.

Also I can totally see Ruby deciding to become an English teacher and teaching at her old school. Anyone wanna place bets?

So I watched the ad and I was like "Imagine going to a school like that" and my boyfriend was like "well, I went to a school like that" and I thought, no, this school looks a lot more prestige or whatever than your school.
His school cost 5000 canadian dollars a year. That's 3000 pounds.
I checked the admission fees of Ruby's school and it's insane. If you do all of your school from age 4 to 18 there, it's a total of 230 310 pounds, or 387 331 canadian dollars.
What the duck. That's more than an american bachelor degree you got there lmao.

(PS: I checked, there are three terms a year)

Is Erimentha-Ruby literally Gretchen Wieners?
"I can't help that I'm so much smarter than everyone, I spend my time reading the DSM whilst the other girls are off making friendship bracelets and painting their nails."

OMG on the topic of her old school I just remembered someone from GG who went to Pipers mentioning something about how food and weight were an obsession at the school, weekly they were weighed by the nurse and eating habits were extremely strict there and there are a lot of weird rules. Also girls that didn't fit a certain appearance dealt with ostracism.

Weight. Is. Not. An. Indicator. Of. An. Healthy. Relationship. With. Food.

You can totally see where Ruby learnt to expect praise for doing the absolute bare minimum.
It is also slightly infuriating when you think about all the little kids who had to pack their own school bag and remember their homework because no one was there to remind them or pack their bag for them lol like my family was a pretty normal family, we weren't in financial distress or anything, but my parents both worked full time and that meant I stayed at my grandma's after school. My grandma stopped going to school when she was 10 in 1950. She certainly was not one to check my planner to make sure I did my homework, I learnt to do that myself pretty early on simply because it was expected on me.

That is an eye watering amount, I cannot get my head around paying half a million for my kids education when I could just get it for free… it doesn’t even seem like this school was worth it either.

That’s not even a particularly expensive school. If you go down the full boarding route, then you’re looking at fees of about £14,000 per term - so about £42,000 per year, and that does’t include uniform, travel, school trips, music lessons and so on. Kids can start boarding at 7, and then move on to their public schools at 11 or 13, so just for that part of their education you’re easily hitting half a million quid. Just for context, the average median UK full time salary is current about £31,000 which shows how evens a fairly ‘ordinary’ independent education is not really affordable for most.

She does 😳
Plus why is she speaking so fast? Is it so that no one white catches what she’s saying so don’t realise she has no idea what she’s talking about and won’t notice her many mispronunciations or terrible grammar?

She can’t even do a study with me for a specific project without porridge/twirling in the field/”I love October” 🙄🙄🙄

Apart from the usual Ruby-isms (calling reading week half term, you don't get a half term from university Ruby! It's a reading week, the same way your annual leave from work won't be half term!), it was quite refreshing to see her do this project - she still did some things that were unnecessary (Victorian doorbells), but seeing her studying in a way that wasn't hours behind her desk was nice
Just a shame she had to run home to do it, instead of staying in Exeter with her group

I find it hard to believe she spent her formative years there and not a single elitist/right wing view has stuck. She acts wholesome like butter wouldn't melt, I'd love to read her thoughts when she's in a situation with working class people or people not extremely well off and Southern. What's the phrase? champagne socialist I think
In my country, we have a similar term for this "Champagne Socialist" people. We call them "Esquerda Caviar" (The Caviar Left).

She’s defo one of these people who think all you have to do to be ‘left wing’ is be anti racist and pro LGBT+, and that’s all there is to it. I also swear she was a hilary clinton fangirl for a while (and not in the lesser of two evils / supporting her in order to avoid a republican presidency kinda way) like she actually thought she was really good.

All I'm thinking of is that "do you think Margaret Thatcher had girl power" meme
