Supposedly July 28th. She said winners would be contacted directly, which is always a dead giveaway that nobody will win anything and it's a marketing scam.
yeah 🥱 this could defs be more her marketing team but if that was me i’d be yelling at them to get the winners out. even if they are contacted directly she needs to at least post a story with the two winners tagged so everyone knows lol

I find it very telling that she says her favorite quote of all time/all of the books she's read is "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers" from Anne of Green Gables.
Unless I'm missing a deeper meaning here, it's a nice-sounding but essentially empty quote about loving autumn from a children's book. Doesn't make any statements about the world that a reader might resonate with on a deeper level. It's a nice quote that you might underline just because it's a well-crafted sentence but I don't understand why someone who is apparently so well-read would choose that as their "favorite quote of all time".

This is such a small thing I’m sure, but it happens every single time: she gives a shoutout to some ”friend” and says she’ll link their Etsy shop below. I always check the description when she says that, and I’ve never ONCE found a link to anything, except her standard affiliate and sponsored links. I hope people cotton on to that and stop sending her free stuff, she will gladly take it off your hands but she’s not going to direct anyone your way. Not unless she gets paid.

This also reeks of Ruby. Blatant lies. Greediness. Scamming her fans.

I imagine her PR company just said "Get on Insta and make a few posts, maybe do a giveaway, drum up attention!" Then Ruby sat confused for several hours as to what the concept of giving things away was and then was so shocked to learn that she'd have to sent her crappy planners to people without getting any money out of it and just lied and never intended to send anything.

Well we know from her Depop that she sells her wrinkled clothes at RRP price so we know a giveaway for free would not be in her nature :D

Guys I'm confused...
Why is she making excuses for not reading The Song of Achilles? She did say in her IG story that she doesn't like it, doesn't understand the hype around it. And now she says she would love to read it but didn't have a Greek phase?? Did you not have to read the Greek Mythology? It's the basis for human nature is it not?
Fair enough if she started to read it but didn't like it, I was not a fan either. But why say she'd love to read it when she doesn't, and did state this earlier. Maybe she git IG backlash, who knows...

She showed herself reading it but as far as I can recall, she never said a thing about not liking it or not understanding the hype, maybe you’re thinking of someone else? (Or my brain is shot, which may also be the case.)

She's extremely lazy. Doesn't deserve all that money for this crappy effort.

I mean if she really wants to read it there are plenty of resources to learn the basics of Greek mythology, both online and in physical books. I'm sure her local library has a plethora of myth collections intended for kids. That's how I first learned about Greek mythology as a kid. Or even an encyclopedia? She must have an encyclopedia in her house.
It's baffling that a Literature student and self-proclaimed scholar knows so little about Greek mythology that she can't even follow a novel about the Iliad. The Song of Achilles is a YA novel and I think it did a pretty good job at covering the basics for the reader so that you could get into it even if you are not a mythology nerd. And Greek mythology is such an important part of Western culture and especially literature.

I learned about Greek mythology from Stephen Fry's Mythos and Heroes books, as I didn't know many of the stories and my school had glossed over it. Now that I've read those so many things make sense in other books, as many invoke motifs, morals etc from those myths. It's definitely worth learning about those. I'm surprised Ruby hasn't created herself some busywork on it, we know she likes to "research". :ROFLMAO:

I'm sure there are also dozens of Ted Talks/Ted videos, podcasts etc that deal with Greek mythology. It would really benefit her to at least learn the basics.
Maybe my perspective is biased because in my country Greek and Roman mythology, art and literature is a huge part of our education and anyone graduating high school would be expected to be familiar with it, at the very least. Especially if you're going to pursue a degree in the humanities afterwards.

She's saying how everyone had a greek mythology phase. I dont remember having a greek mythology phase. I remember being taught a few stories of greek mythology but I don't remember diving into it deeply.

I really wonder how does she imagine working in publishing lol. She has zero chances for that.

I remember her saying something like this. She said she was struggling to get into it or something? I can't remember exactly but there was defo an insta story where she said she wasn't liking it.

In the UK it isn't a standard aspect of education, but for sure as a second year lit student I would expect her to know the very basics. Especially given she studied the Odyssey in translation at some point; Achilles does appear in the Odyssey (albeit very briefly, and dead 😂), and I'd have thought given the events of the Odyssey take place after the events of the Iliad she'd probably have done some kind of background research.

It's so obviously a lazy excuse for the fact that she just doesn't like the book but doesn't want to admit it. It was a massive giveaway that she was talking about it at the same time as The Secret History - apparently one of the best books she'd ever read, but it just 'wasn't the right time' to read it, and she hasn't picked it up since. It's not a great sign for her future academic studies if she's scared to disagree with popular opinion.

I was rewatching Ruby's old Hermione videos and one that really struck me was How To Study Like Hermione Granger - it it, she says things like "study solidly without breaks", "don't ask your teacher for help [...] even if it means spending another hour on it", "never let anyone tell you you're doing too much". This is obviously very dangerous advice to be giving to a young, impressionable audience, and recommends damaging thought patterns and behaviours. I know this video was posted years ago and I think she's grown and realised a lot of this advice is harmful and misguided, but surely she should take the video down? it really doesn't sit right with me that it's still up...

I watched that one a while ago, and I feel like she could do a really cracking video where she revisits it and points out the flaws, and replaces her former advice with better advice. I’m not holding my breath for her to have the self-awareness and maturity to do that, though.

New member here and so glad I found this place!
I thought it was just me who had started to find her insufferable but I’m not alone! When she mispronounced Truman Capote as an almost third year English Lit student I knew there had to be some other like minded folks who would of been equally outraged!

Quick side note, and I apologise if this has already been bought up in previous threads, does anyone know what happened to that cottage she was buying?

It must be over two years ago now, she put up a vlog about how she was buying this cottage and even stayed a night in it, however a few days later it was gone and she hasn’t breathed a word since? I’ve even seen the odd YouTube comment asking about it but obviously she never responds.

Does anyone know what happened? Because it drives me mad !
