I still need to watch the video . . . I'm curious as to whether she will analyse aspects of Father Christmas in the context of "scarier" European St Nicholas traditions (where Nicholas travels with demons). I always thought the externalised representation of the dualistic "duties" (reward & punishment) of Father Christmas seemed older: there's something nice about having two separate beings for these two duties. It's less complicated theologically and philosophically. Yet I was thinking just now that this might purely be the result of amalgamation: stranger pagan traditions had to be folded somehow into the narrative of a saint giving gifts, so instead of allocating the punishment duties straight to the saint, the demons got to tag along with him instead. Well, I'll just watch it. I'm sure it will be frustratingly shallow.

You can find European/Alpine Christmas traditions from the same time period by searching Krampus & Nicholas. A little horror with your Christmas? Why not . . . Actually some explanations state explicitly that Nicholas and Krampus live together year-round.

Around christmas time you can sometimes find Krampus & Nikolaus chocolates in Lidl! I still have mine (couldn't bring myself to eat them, the Krampus was just too cute lol)

I think even the cardigan could look alright if she just styled it more like a person her age. Tucking the green top into some high-waisted pants would make a significant difference imo.

i hate commenting on what people wear but lol no literally if she had on black or dark wash high waisted jeans and tucked it in and wore the cardigan over it would look so nice! (i probs wouldnt wear a green shirt, maybe white or a neutral brownish colour thats darker than the cardigan)

From what i remember, she titled the video 'buying my first house at 18'. Think it's a cottage in a village near her parents house and she's planning on renting it out until she finishes Uni. There was also another video where she spent the night there but that was cut short because she didn't like being alone in the cottage.

I am watching Ruby's bookshelf tour and at the risk of sounding overly critical of her, I found it so interesting how she skimmed really quickly over her copy of Lady Chatterley. As an English student, surely it is pertinent to say how truly revolutionary DH Lawrence's work was in the lives of women in 1920s. Lawrence was one of the first published authors to explore female pleasure, gaze, expectations and to show that women are entitled to break free from convention if they are brave enough to do so. Lawrence also describes nature, our connection to it and the link between the female body and life itself through natural metaphors. If Ruby is brave enough to read it properly and not be scared off by the sex, she'll realise how absolutely vital Lawrence's work is to revealing the internal life of womanhood. The fact that he was a man and able to see us in all our facets and quirks and to write a character as alive and vibrant as Constance Chatterley is a testament to his skill and humanity as a writer.

Absolutely agree. But she never goes deeper than 'it is a beautiful edition' or 'look at this lovely cover'. I doubt she even knows the history of this work by DH Lawrence. Definitely too 'adult' for her.

Have we ever dissected the description she's now putting on each of her videos? Hard to decide what my favourite part is, but I think I've landed on "without feeding into Hustle Culture." (Why the capital letters? We may never know)

If Ruby is smart, which she rarely is, she will never move into that cottage. She was an adult when she shared it, talked about it, bragged about it, did a video that showed inside and outside. And it wasn't hard for people to find out the exact address. Without thinking, the woman who is afraid to walk beyond her parent's backyard showed the internet her future home. She has a huge following. Who knows what crazy people are out there watching her every move who, if she moved in there, would show up at her door, stalk her, etc.. Seriously, though, this is a good example of the over-sharing she and so many YouTubers do. They are so full of themselves and desperate for "content" they never think about what they are doing or what parts of their life they should really keep private for a myriad of reasons, safety being first. Hopefully she does read this forum, because she made herself a target and ruined that place for herself. Wise up, Ruby. You are not as smart as you thought, are you? Dimwit decision.

While I agree there is always a possibility someone will find out where you live when you're somewhat popular. Especially when you're not only filming study videos by your desk but also show your general life and surroundings. Sure don't show your house with a street and house no. on it but at the same time if someone really wants to find you they probably would. To avoid that you'd have to have a 100% anonymous channel without any reference to your actual name, area of the country, preferably film in a room in which your friends / acquaintances won't recognise. I mean if you want to keep your privacy you totally can. Thing is when you want to get shit tons of money solely for showing your boring life you need to be ready for disadvantages of that too. What if one of her followers lived in the same village - she could be spotted even in a shop and followed later. Same thing could also happen to someone who is not popular at all but came across some psycho. At the same time Ruby's not even close to the popularity level of celebrities who actually take precautions such as having a gated and guarded properties.
