Blocked. You are here to deflect and police our language. I shall not hear it anymore.
Was thinking the exact same about that user. Comes into a thread about abortion and deliberately misinterprets posts in order to deflect from the awful RvW decision.
Very odd behaviour.

Exactly! They want it so that this isn't a women's issue but a "people" issue. Well don't be surprised when people, i.e. men, make these decisions. After all, "men can get pregant too." 🙃
Men have been making decisions about women long before trans identity politics became a talking point. Can’t blame trans people for this one. There has always been a strong religious right lobby in the US and this is what happens when people vote them into power.

Anyone who thinks policing of women's language has not led to this are deluding themselves. Every fucking left winger in the last few years, including Planned Parenthood, have fallen over themselves to not use the word woman. Take that word away and you have no words to speak about your rights. Abortion becomes people's rights, no longer relevant to women.

If you think it cannot happen here in the UK, think again. Take away plain and simple language, the language used to talk about reproduction, menstruation, menopause, make all of them 'people's rights' and they mean fuck all. Be kind left activism has done this, and that is as someone who is a life long leftist. The shit has gone too far. It has gone from 'be kind' to get on your fucking knees and know your place.

In case you cannot tell, I am fucking furious. I celebrated along with American women when Roe v Wade was passed. And I am mourning with them at its removal. Don't dare to try and tell me I am not seeing what I am clearly seeing. Don't tell me I am wrong about erasure of language. Part of my degree was linguistics, I know how powerful words are, and how powerful their removal is. For those at the back, if you have not got it yet, LANGUAGE IS IMPORTANT.
Thank you for being so much more eloquent than I could ever be.

I am a forty year old woman and to think that we had a better handle on our rights when I was 20 sends me into a rage. So a bunch of old white men have the right to tell American women what to do with their bodies?? WTAF. I want to take to the streets and rage and rage.

The word women is being erased because men are so fucking entitled they believe they can take it away from us. And they’re winning!! I’m fuming.

I can't believe that this Taliban-esque policy is happening in the country which calls itself the leader of the free world. It's actually frightening.

I know they already tried this unsuccessfully a couple of hundred years ago, but can't the gun-toting, bible-bashing half of America just separate itself from the progressive, forward-thinking half?

I had a termination for medical reasons at 23 weeks, the groups for tfmr are full of woman who are heartbroken by this . Thinking what happens if they need another tfmr, what happens to a friend who does and so on.
it won’t stop abortion, it will just stop safe abortions, go watch call the midwife. dirty wire and all sorts put into women to end a pregnancy. Women dying of blood loss and infections, women made permanently infertile after have a back street abortion as a young women, this is awful

amazing, isn't it, that all this deeply religious people have somehow convinced themselves that their kind, forgiving, loving god would want women to feel frightened, to unnecessarily put their lives at risk and for millions of unwanted babies to be brought into the world?

Oh damn. I get that this is her private business but…her dad led to this behaviour and she hasn’t once tried to stop it? The gloves are definitely off.
Another one calling people out:

Totally!! Seen so many people outraged on twitter the past few days. They’ve said things like “this would never happen in the U.K.” I know many parts of the U.K. forget about NI being part of the U.K. but come on!! We’re still forced to fly to other parts of the U.K. for an abortion because they haven’t commissioned the services here it’s a disgrace!!
I think most people in the UK don’t give much thought to NI. It’s an afterthought. No point virtue signalling issues with womens rights or gay rights when you ignore what’s happening on your doorstep.

I had to travel to the UK for an abortion pre repeal and was very grateful for having that option but I wish more UK pro choice allies had had our back rather than constantly focusing on US issues.

Stephen Bryer, who is currently on the Supreme Court (and voted against overturning RvW), is retiring at the end of his term this year. He's being replaced by a woman who says that she is unable to define 'the word woman' because she is 'not a biologist'.

If you can't define something, you can't protect it.

Corporate America needs to step up and stop any donations to the Republican Party.

Apparently Dick's, Amazon, Apple and Disney have all pledged to help their employees get safe and legal abortions.

Today is heart breaking. It hurts to have laws in place that overlook the hardships of childbirth. I would never want to be pregnant - I would have so many mental and physical problems carrying a baby to term. This post from NY was heartening: numbers 3 and 4 need to be well known.

From my understanding all the abolition of Roe v Wade actually does is remove the federal right to an abortion and sends it to each state to make a decision at the local level. Hence Conservative states will ban the practice and liberal states will maintain it. And given this is the US it ‘s usually about 50-50 Republican v Democrat. So if a state has a Republican legislature which was elected on an anti-abortion ticket then I’m not seeing how that is undemocratic.

And those blaming “men” exclusively for this are watching very different news reports to me. From what I’ve seen there are plenty of women in the anti-abortion protests as well. Women from a younger demographic as well.
Oh absolutely. Lots of 'conservative' women are against abortion. I have no idea why they'd celebrate their rights being taken away and I suspect some of them will regret it in future.

It was the Supreme Court judges and I believe the President can choose a judge who sits on the Supreme Court?
yep, and three of the current nine were picked by trump (which speaks volumes). including one with multiple sexual assault claims, the perfect man to make decisions on the rights of women!

she was an amazing woman, but ruth bader ginsburg holding onto her place for as long as she did really screwed the balance up.

So many are blaming Trump and not seeing how the democrats have allowed this to happen. They (Obama and Biden) could have stopped this at anytime (I believe they still can) but abortion has always been a vote puller now they are asking for cash to fight this and they will use abortion rights to get re-elected and "get women out of this situation"

They knew 100% this was going to happen, they could have stopped it but didn't. They promised they would, but didn't because they knew once they did , they could not use it for votes and donations anymore.

People are being played like a game of ping pong. none of them, left or right (except for a rare few) have your rights or interests at heart.
This bollocks is only going to get worse unless we open our eyes and see it for what it really is. Another thing to divide us all.

I’m heartbroken. Will this affect the plan B pill? I know it’s not an abortion pill but I could see it being lumped in as well. Or at least making it more difficult to access instead of being able to walk into a pharmacy and get it like it is now. They’re coming for birth control too so I wouldn’t put it past the government to wage the war on any and everything.
Imagine a world without abortion or birth control…I just can’t. It’s absolutely terrifying. 😥😥

I really feel for all the decent, liberal American’s. These gun toting, bible bashing nutters are completely deranged and need to be stopped. I know we all complain about Boris etc but I can’t imagine him and his cronies ever doing anything like this.

In 2020 the guns were number 1 killer of children in the US. So what about their rights to live? What about their rights go to the school and not get shot in their classrooms? What about their heartbeat which won’t be heard anymore?
Same people who’s celebrating this decision are the same lunatics who’s shouting “ it’s my right to bear arms, guns to everyone!
the governor of texas, who of course failed to protect a classroom of small children from a gunman, tweeted this nonsense:

these people only care about having the child born, with no care for what happens after it. the us has the worst maternity care, the worst welfare, the worst health care cover of any “first world” country. aside from all of the other horror with forced birth, they are also forcing women to have babies that they cannot afford.

i truly don’t understand how the “rights” of an unborn foetus somehow trumps the rights and choices of what a person does with their own body and life.
