Amy Coney Barrett has 7 children - I’m not sure how many are girls nor do I know how many girls the other justices have but I can’t help but wonder how they’ll feel if one of those girls ever gets pregnant but it’s ectopic and they’ll die because abortions are illegal.
Oh wait, it wouldn’t be an issue for them because they’ll have the means to travel somewhere where it’s legal. It’s disgusting.

It's a sad day when in 2022 women have no rights to their own bodies in the US. Women are going to do what they want and need despite any ruling. Fact.

However, now it'll be like a hundred years ago where it is done in secret putting many in danger and causing death.

Supreme Court Justice Thomas said they now need to look at contraception and same sex relations/marriages next. I'm so sickened and disgusted right now.

Because women should always be able to access abortions. Women's rights are being curtailed and they will keep picking at it until we are less and less.

How the US organises it's political system is absolutely something we can comment upon. That pack of old judges should never have the ability to make a change that the majority of the population does not want. Saying 'it's nothing to do with us' is just like ignoring an instance of domestic violence as we don't know the details. It's wrong.

I just read that this ruling will see more women killed in the US. Apparently, homicide is the leading cause of death in the US for pregnant women and those postpartum. Boyfriends and husbands who don't want a baby will take matters into their own hands.

Also, did you see the MP Danny Kruger (Pru Leith's son) say in the Commons that women do not have 'absolute right of body autonomy'?

I really fear for our futures.

I agree with everyone about how wrong this ruling is. In a sad way, I’m not surprised. Women’s rights, the civil rights movement, gay rights for marriage equality, are all SO recent in terms of human history.

All of these things have been fought for, so hard, but sadly, because it’s relatively new, it’s inevitable that there will be a pushback.

But right now, (in a sad way), none of that matters. I’m just devastated for the women in America.
I can’t get over the map showing which states abortion is now illegal. Can you imagine something like that in the UK? I’ve been to to America, and loved it, I have good friends there, but to be honest, right now I just see it as such a weird and backwards place.

A country who were truly pro life would ban weapons which are killing children weekly. Would offer paid maternity leave as law. Would offer paid maternity pay as law. Would offer free healthcare.

Im heartbroken for all birthing people in America today.

Exactly. It’s not about the life that’s born because once that child is here no one cares about it anymore. Kids will end up in the system, abused or in poverty because people were forced to have them. But no one will care for them once they enter the world. Absolutely tragic. I’m heartbroken. Will this affect the plan B pill? I know it’s not an abortion pill but I could see it being lumped in as well. Or at least making it more difficult to access instead of being able to walk into a pharmacy and get it like it is now. They’re coming for birth control too so I wouldn’t put it past the government to wage the war on any and everything.

Kruger was actually making a very good point that British politicians should not presume to lecture the US about legislative matters that don’t concern them, and about which they are almost wholly uninformed.

So - he criticises people for being vocal in their opposition to the decision taken to remove legal and safe abortion nationwide in the US, BUT he is allowed to stand up in the Commons and state the reasons he agrees with the decision.

People in the UK have reason to be concerned for the very basis that someone like him stood up and said that comment around women's bodily autonomy in their legislative house and made a statement that will no doubt light some sort of fire under the hard core pro birthers.

So it could be argued that this is a MORE democratic approach: individuals get to decide on whether or not they want their state to provide abortions.

How does that leave it up to the individual though? Women's bodies just shouldnt be legislated, period. There's nothing democratic about what's happening right now, and you seem oddly cavalier about women's right to choose being taken away from them. Wake up

As a man I am embarrassed that other men feel the need to make laws on what a woman does or doesn't choose to do with her own body. At this point in history I bet any Afghani refugee's who are living in the US probably want to go back to Afghanistan because it's a more progressive place to live!!

Fair play to them, because we've got our own little conservative America right here within the UK but it feels like not many realise it or care. The rest of the island of Ireland has abortion services in place but not us. Ridiculous.

I was heavily involved in the Repeal movement in the south and we got huge support from the north. When repeal passed we turned our attention to NI. I can’t believe we are still no further all these years later.

What really pisses me off is all these UK people who are angry about the US decision are silent when it comes to women in the north. They need your help too.

Very bad times ahead. I am hoping that perhaps women will be able to access abortion pills or use the Del-Em system, which was devised in the 1970s and is infinitely safer than soap and coat hangers. Times have moved on and perhaps women can find ways of circumnavigating the laws which seek to deny them access to formal abortion services.

Women are being attacked from all sides. No words are adequate to express the disgust and loathing I feel towards forced birthers.
