That email thing is hilarious, all I can imagine when the photos are this awful is that the people living in it are tenants rather than the owner anddon't particularly want to move

I definitely think that’s what I think it is most of the time! Having said that I know someone who recently bought a house off of the owner (who was living in the property), and he didn’t even bother to pick up empty beer cans off the sofa, let alone anything else!
I guess such is the insane state of the property market in hte UK that people don't even need to make the most basic effort to sell, I wouldn't invite friends over with rubbish just left lying aroundI definitely think that’s what I think it is most of the time! Some houses definitely look like the owners have been abducted by aliens seconds before the photographer arrived 
...beds unmade, computer still on mid email, washing up piled up, bin overflowing, even half finished drinks on the side etc!
I've also noticed increasingly that even in the houses that look perfect in the first few photos they will have a dirty bathroom (mouldy black grout, limescale covered taps) or the front garden/ patio will be filthy or full of weeds.
Or like one I've just seen today, perfectly tidy and immaculately decorated in every photo except one of the upstairs landing where there is what appears to be a massive great crack in the wall. Surely you'd get that seen to before putting it up for sale - or at least not include that photo?!

If it's an elderly person selling they may not have the ability or the will to tackle it. I spent, I kid you not, a year travelling once every eight weeks from the top of Scotland to Gloucestershire trying to chivvy my Mum into doing a bit of decluttering before she downsized from a four-bed house to a one-bed flat. Her study was never photographed for the listing (you could barely get through the door), but the other rooms were tidied as best we could. It was only in the two months before she moved that I finally got her to agree to go through books and CDs and we gave about half of them to charity. She moved with just over 90 boxes of stuff and 82 paintings and then told my brother and I it was our fault. Family relations were a bit strained for a while!

He said some of it needed a lot of work, (he was quite uptight and private tbh), and my boss asked if the roof was falling down or something) and he basically let out that the roof of the MAIN house was fine, but the COACH house needed a lot of work to it

We live in a city with some very nice, old Georgian townhouse style mansions which have mostly been converted into flats but some still remain as a (somewhat rural) 'country pile' for fancy London families. I think I'd rather just not bother!Needs a bit of work, but this is a lot of house for the money (where I currently live, £475k would just about buy you a 3 bed semi!)

Wow, carpeted bathroom in the wild with a pink bathroom suite.
Apart from the pattern on the blinds and the colour of the window sills, I don't hate it. It looks quite restful. What's wrong with me

Weirdly, I hated pink until a couple of years ago too. Yet these days I really like it. It's a turn around I wasn't expecting so late in life! I'm not so fond of the carpet though. It probably wouldn't look quite so lovely after a few wet people have trodden all over it on a daily basis
.The bathroom carpet takes me back to my parents house in the 80s.
