I am a reception teacher and I have a girl with attendance at 80%. She was off on holiday last week for over a week. Did a phonics assessment and for a bright girl, she has so many gaps. That will be down to me to fill with extra interventions, because her parents choose to take her out in term time. Same as Woody.

It’s so sad to see how little people value our education system. My youngest is 4 (summer born) and should have started reception this year but is having to do another year at preschool as he has severe autism and is non-verbal, he didn’t get specialist provision this year as in the whole of the west of our county they had 9 spaces available for children of his age and over 90 children needing them. Because of covid & the lockdowns the assessments and EHCPs weren’t getting done so there’s been a huge backlog and now the waiting time for a specialist place is enormous. I’d give anything for him to be able to receive any kind of education 😢

I don’t think she is - I reckon she’d have some dirt to dish if she was 🤣
Maybe while she's still got beggy selling the lumi under her she's keeping herself hidden. I reckon if she is on here, as soon as her and beggy part ways she'll spill.

So they’ve spent 5 days at CP with Steve’s Mum & her partner….

Can someone please tell me what exactly was the point of this holiday? 5 days wandering around and occasionally using the free swimming pool. Why the duck would anyone pay through the nose to stay at CP to essentially go swimming? I’m baffled. Steve’s mum & partner could have just taken them for an afternoon at the local swimming baths - job done.
To be fair, me and my family went to CP and didn’t do the activities bar one (mostly because our sons ASD and just isn’t interested) so most of the week was walks & swimming, which he loved!

What’s the point of paying all that money to go there? I don’t get it. You can go out for a walk in the woods or whatever for free, you can go swimming for relatively cheap prices at most local pools etc - I genuinely don’t see the point in spending hundreds of pounds to go for a walk and a few swimming sessions.

I've got a nearly 9 year old and obviously interact with all his little friends, when they come on play dates. In addition I work in education. From what we see, Alfie is years apart from a typical boy of that age.

His speach is far away from his peers of the same age, he clearly has delayed / atypical language development (his queen's English accent, his lisps and his inability to make a sentence flow (like he's always thinking hard for the next word as he's saying it and then has difficulty saying it too - it makes the sentence hard to follow and disjointed).

He stims, his body movement and movement flow isnt typical, he appears very socially awkward, his facial features just aren't quite right, he's got vision problems and he was born with cardiac issues.

I'm my limited opinion, I'd say Aspergers or a syndrome

He needs help and support whatever it is (and it is something, she can't keep pretending because it's just making her look like she's ignoring it and being negligent at this point).
Sorry if i come across ignorant but i found your post really interesting and it made me think about Alfie's accent. He, like you said uses the queens english and sounds really posh. But we all know who his parents are, how they sound, and them being from Yorkshire.... So is his accent quite common with children who have SEN?
I find him such a sweet little boy, and it breaks my heart to see how different appears from my own 9 year old son and all his friends.

Sorry to jump in but lots of children on the spectrum speak with different accents to their families. American accents are quite popular. Alfeh also gets more interaction with the tele than his parents, so it’s not surprising he speaks differently.
