I have a 16 year old. The thought of him being so afraid for my safety that he stabbed someone - especially someone he loves - and then being arrested for it, is just awful.

That poor boy, he must be in pieces.

What an irresponsible thing for their mother to do with them. Obviously I don’t mean that anyone deserved to be hurt, or the daughter to die, but of all the stupid things to do with your 16 year old, and with another child in the next room.

So unbelievably sad.

Hmmm MH eh?😡

Held in private,he didn’t appear cos of MH,will we know the result though?

It’s standard for parole hearings to be held in private (Ie they take place in prison). Dominic Raab brought in the right for interested parties (incl the media) to request hearings be held in public. However not only did he not provide resource to allow for all the relevant parties to facilitate this but he didn’t seem to recognise the fact most of a parole hearing focuses on the release plan for the offender.
Such details can never be made public given those involved in public protection need to safeguard everyone, including Venables himself. Venables is the most high profile prisoner in the UK with a lifelong anonymity order meaning his release plan will be incredibly complex.

I don’t believe Venables should be released, but this is a non-event story from the Mail (surprise surprise) given parole hearings have always been private as standard.

Ashling Murphy’s murdered has been found guilty. He stabbed her 11 times in the neck which damaged her jugular vein, voice box and right carotid artery.
One of the most horrific aspects of this case was that it happened in broad daylight with plenty of others around. The poor woman just wanted to go for a jog after work. Are we not safe anywhere?

My sister’s husband’s brother (who’s 47 and spends his entire day online) got a package in the mail a few months ago. His mother, thinking it was for her, as she was expecting something at the same time and didn’t check the name, opened it only to find a bundle of CP in anime-style art - not ‘real’ images but still clearly depicting CP. My sister was there at the time and was totally shocked and horrified, but the mother just shrugged at her reaction and said: “Meh. What am I going to do about it?” And she changed the subject and went about her day as normal! Wtf?! My sister is still debating whether to report him as his devices must be full of it. 🤢
Your sister absolutely needs to report it. The mother is enabling it. If he feels comfortable enough to order this kind of thing online then god knows what he’s viewing in private 🤢

What horrifies me even more than the number (which is horrifying enough) is I think I only remember hearing about a handful of these cases.

So many women killed by husbands/ partner. Or their own sons.

Why are they disgusting? Do you know something the police don't?
Oh the police know exactly what disgusting low lifes they are. We have discussed the sad case on Charlene many times on this thread.
Read the news article posted above. Its not pleasant.

General question - when defending does a lawyer have to believe their client is innocent?
Not at all. In fact they choose their specialism. Once a defence barrister, always a defence barrister (same for prosecution barristers). I didn’t know this until quite recently! So they don’t have to believe their client is innocent, they just have to look for holes in the case and introduce doubt where appropriate.

I find this reasoning outrageous. Because he beat her unconscious so quickly he gets a reduced minimum term because she wouldn’t have felt any pain afterwards? I’m gobsmacked. And furious.

I cannot believe what I’m reading.

So future murderers just need to know that if they clobber their victims early on, they’ll get a shorter sentence?

I remember seeing the footage of the news where McSweeny literally prowled the streets for hours looking for a vulnerable woman to attack. IIRC the other women he encountered weren’t alone so he didn’t risk it? Dangerous, dangerous man. He should never be released.

I’m sick of the media using the phrase “child pornography”. It’s images of child sexual abuse.
I was literally about to make this comment- the phrase ‘child pornography’ is so incredibly inappropriate and offensive.

Thanks @LaBlonde

The email I sent which people can copy (but maybe change a little so it doesn’t look copied):

Dear Plumpton College

I am writing regarding the following article: https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/new...y-attacked-a-sheep-in-the-south-downs-4405289

Please can you provide assurance that your facility does not support animal abuse and will therefore be excluding these students from continuing their studies in agriculture?

I am appalled by what I have read and think it is imperative that you deal with this matter appropriately - for both ethical and reputational purposes.

Kind regards

If that's true, it's very interesting! I'm sure her name came up as being one of his potential victims when he was arrested originally in 2006 or whatever it was.
There is no way he suddenly started killing in his late 40’s. I’m sure he has many unknown victims.

Re Cooke, at 96 he would still I suspect find a way to access his network and would therefore be a danger. Lest we fall into the trap of thinking older prisoners are past the age of causing harm, an 82-year-old who had served 50 years behind bars was recently convicted of sexual assault: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-bristol-67440198

This is one issue with even the very long minimum sentences we are now seeing for sex offences and murder. A 30 year old who gets 35 years sounds like a lot, out of sight out of mind, but they come up for parole eventually and can be released at an age when they’re still very much a danger.

Nothing boils my blood like thinking about Colin Pitchfork wandering around pestering women when he raped and murdered two children and sought to avoid capture.

Also in case I wasn’t clear, would you just save everyone an effort and die please Sidney.
This is why I firmnly believe men who are convicted of sexual assault should never be released, particularly paedophiles. I don't think they can unlearn their predilection, and nor do most of them want to. I don't know what you should do with them, but I don't think they ever stop being dangerous.

I don't want Sidney to die. I want him to live being miserable and wanting to get out forever. I'll happily pay tax to keep him unhappy.

Omg Simpsons’ CP. 🙁 My sister is worried that it will affect their family dynamic if she reports it but I’m sure there is anonymous reporting as well. Even if there isn’t, she has every right to do it. Tbh, I feel like reporting him myself even if she doesn’t!
I am a health professional- I have reported people for less. I always think - what if the behaviours escalated and a child was harmed - could I live with myself for doing nothing?

These men. There's no hope for them. They should just be locked up on an island somewhere and left to starve.

Er, happy New year 🫣

I can’t remember who it was now as it was a while ago. But I was following a thread on here about one of those family vlogger pages. Someone had pointed out to them why they shouldn’t share photos of their kids (they might have been in the bath or something?) because there’s weird people out there who might use those photos for dodgy stuff. The influencer replied and said it didn’t really matter because it’s not like someone was coming to their house and physically assaulting their child, who cares if they’re looking at/using their photos, it’s not real life.

Had to stop hate-following after that because I found it absolutely insane that someone could put photos of their children on the internet and not care if paedophiles were using them for their own pleasure 😡😡🤢🤢🤢

Thank you. It was my sister and the prosecution detailed everyone she’d ever slept with. Despite her waking up to her (ex) husband raping her on multiple occasions. And then beating her, raping her and handing himself in to police (he broke his dick raping her so he knew it was over)
She had to have a full examination, 8 hours of police interviews and then her entire sexual history laid out in court.
He got 4 years, was out after just under 3.
She fled the country and is in the other hemisphere now. After a full breakdown following the trial.
You are completely right - what other crime do we blame the victim??!
I was watching a programme yesterday about the Rochdale groomers. One of the victims (referred to as Lilly in the programme) said she wouldn't report rape again because of the cross examination and having to relive everything again.

She hadn’t done but she decided to tell him on Thursday after we had another chat about it, and he was absolutely horrified and angry at his mother as well. They have two girls, 4 and almost 2, but they’ve never even met the brother as he basically lives in his room and doesn’t socialise - not even when visitors come over to the house. Her husband is disgusted especially as he said he emailed him photos of one of the girl’s birthday parties recently to try and include him because he’s so isolated.

I’m glad to report that they both went to the gardaí yesterday and my sister told them what happened and what she saw. They’re sure that the shit is about to hit the fan as the mother will probably also be implicated and will no doubt either deny everything or make some excuse for the son. I also think she knew or suspected what he was up to but like everything else, she likely decided to ignore it. She’ll also probably support her creepy son and will hold this against my sister especially.

Thank you all so much for the advice and support the other day. I’ll keep you updated x
Well done to you all. Because of you, especially your sister, children will be saved .
