I’m 21 and due my first baby in January! Absolutely terrified but so excited. She’s been measuring small throughout my pregnancy so hoping she has a little growth spurt in these last few weeks 😊 Anyone else had a baby young and have any advice? X

Also, although being in hospital can sound a bit daunting if you have to stay in, appreciate the time to put your feet up and just be with your baby. As soon as you’re home again, it’s so easy to get caught up with all the household stuff again.
Yes to this! I was desperate to get home and ended up re admitted a day later but it was the best thing to happen to us! The first day we had visitors from 9am-11pm constantly the only time I held my son was to feed him. Going back into hospital just me and him for 3 nights was amazing, also I learnt so much too. I wasn’t able to baby classes as he was born too early so I didn’t know anything but going back in the midwives taught me how to pump, sterilise, how long milks last etc all silly things but things I didn’t know. When I left the second time I felt so much more prepared and in control ❤

For those of you that have already had a baby....what's the one thing you wish you had been told the first time around?

I'm terrified of labour so I've got the feeling I might regret asking this 😂
Remember to read up on csections just in case! I skipped all the csection parts in all the books, I didn't know anyone who had one and it just genuinely never crossed my mind I could have one until I had an emergency one!

I’ve proper reached the fed up stage now. I’m 39+3 today. 1st baby came on due date, 2nd came at 39+5.

I’m booked in for an induction on Thursday (still undecided if I’m going to refuse it) but would really just like to go into labour naturally before then. With my others I didn’t have an induction looming so wasn’t as desperate to go into labour.

Thanks both. My period started on 29th November so definitely just 3 weeks. My moms convinced it’s twins cause I’m getting sick so early but I could just be unlucky haha. I tested positive Sunday night though after only holding my wee for an hour and it wasn’t a squinter so it’s possible there’s more than one baby in there. Crazy to think if there is.
How exciting! A girl I went to school with has just had identical twins 😍😍 keep us updated please!

I love this baby thread 💛

Yay I’m soooo happy for you!! And your tiny tadpole ❤ When you have your twelve week scan it’ll be magical - seeing baby having a party in your tummy. So so pleased for you x
I am just very anxious thank you for your message really nice bunch in the group! So odd being on my own without my partner I cried and was speechless the nurse was really nice as well. Still can’t contact a midwife though 😆 x

I think all our lovely influencers and Instagrammers make pregnancy out to be far more glam and exciting than the reality!
I feel like death warmed up most days haha. Can't even be bothered to wash my hair. Im wondering when the pregnancy glow starts 🥺😬

Thinking of you. I hope all goes well today, please keep us all updated. I know we are all strangers on the internet but I think I speak for us all when I say we are all here for you ❤

Sending all my love xxx
Thankyou, means a lot. It feels like such a lonely time, as close friends and family think we are happily pregnant with no problems.

I agree! I have about 20 girls names that I love and only one boys name, and my partner doesn’t like it.. but it’s fine I have 8 months of graft just in case I have a boy 😈
I just pounced straight after I gave birth. I was still on the operating table (csection) and I’d had a name I wanted all along but OH kept saying no.

The midwife asked if we had a name and I said he looks like a (name) and OH said (name) it is then 🤣

I have tested positive (clearly, no squinter) at 3 weeks 3 days, and have only had singletons! Congrats !

I have a horse and was worried about riding but the mw said the baby is really well protected nestled where it is it. The way she described it was put an egg in a plastic box with water and try and break it- virtually impossible and that's what it's like with our wee beans! It's so hard not too worry so I totally get where your coming from but that analogy definite helped me. Also I was so reassured by getting an early scan (I had to go for one for bleeding on the NHS which turned out to be nothing) but you can get one from 6 weeks at the private scan clinics up here so that might help alleviate your fears a bit too 😊
Ahh thank you for sharing that :) yeah I’ve got a scan booked for the 19th, I’ll be 7 weeks and 2 days. Really looking forward to it.

Has anyone had exceptionally weird, even non-food cravings, particularly in the third trimester? I always thought cravings came at the start of pregnancy
I’m not a smoker but I saw someone smoking the other day and had the sudden urge to have a puff (DONT WORRY I WOULDNT!) but what an inappropriate craving 🤦‍♀️

I’m currently 35+1 with my 3rd ☺

Local birth centre is shut and won’t be reopening before I’d need it 😭

How much having a wee for the first few days afterwards can sting 😬😬

As someone who has had to have all my babies forcibly removed using various instruments, it always interests me greatly that some labours are so quick!
Everyone is telling me this one will just fly out, but for me last time being even quicker than with my first meant a ridiculous amount of pain 🥴

Told my mum today and she reacted exactly how I thought she would, like I’m 15 and up the duff.

‘Why would you do you that?! What you gonna do for money? (I earn more than her and my stepdad combined) You don’t have any family where you live. I’m so disappointed. I told Sharon at work that my kids are better than that and I’ll never have grandchildren!’

Tried to hold back the tears tbh.

Merry Christmas 😬 I hope you all have better and more supportive reactions.
Sending loads of love, what a horrible way for anyone to react, let alone your mum. I’m sure you are absolutely gutted. What on earth does she mean by “better than that?” Doesn’t make any sense at all.

Try and concentrate on you and your own little family. If she can’t be supportive of you during the time you need it most, she doesn’t deserve you x

Waiting for the 12 week scan is the worst 😂 the last few weeks of pregnancy are such a drag too
Yes, if you end up at 42 weeks (as I have done, twice...) those extra weeks also feel like 100yrs 🤣

Pregnancy is bloody long! Imagine how a poor elephant must feel. 22months of it all.

I wonder do animals get morning sickness? 🤔 there’s a thought for the day!

Uh so I called 111 and they’re sending an ambulance. Seems a bit dramatic as I feel fine and I don’t want to cause a fuss but I guess better safe than sorry. Will keep you updated.
As said, it’s a medical emergency!!! You’re not wasting anyone’s time, an ectopic pregnancy can be life threatening, even before that stage it can compromise your fertility and needs taking seriously, don’t play anything down for fear of causing a fuss. I’ve everything crossed for you that it proves to be usual pregnancy pains but I’m so glad you’re being seen, will be thinking of you.

Ladies in the early stages please make sure you’re aware of the signs.

I felt totally adrift at first and it's only now I'm actually getting my act together rather than ignoring it because I was so massively overwhelmed but every video I watch or booklet read, even the shit ones, make me feel a little less anxious. I'm by no means expert as I've not even had the baby yet but I'm going to tell you what's happened to me and things I've found so far in case it might help you.

Don't worry about not calling until 16 weeks, just call and ask how to access the notes and any questions you have. Push for information, chase things up - no one is doing you any favours at the minute it seems.

There's some excellent resources available online, and some really shite ones, but there are quite a lot of online courses giving segments for Freeduring covid if you google. This is pretty dire but is something at least about the actual labour process and what happens during the birth. Also the youtube video I posted above but that's a lot more complex. At the moment in my hospital you're allowed one birth partner. They can be with you from check in so long as you're in labour until you're sent home or moved to ward in which case they can only then see you in visiting hours. No other visitors allowed at the moment. If you had to go in to be induced, they would join you once you were in active labour in your own room.
Here are tons of leaflets on different subjects that my hospital provides so some are specific to them but most I think are general.
'Choosing where to have your baby' might be a good place to start and 'The essential guide to feeding and caring for your baby' is a recommended read in later stages.
Look at what hospitals are in your area and go on their websites and find the maternity/birth section. This will tell you what services they provide. Then you can google user reviews and reports to see which you might prefer.

Where I am they assess you at your booking appointment to see if your anti-natal care can be via midwife or if you're higher risk and would the be consultant led. It's based on factors such as age, smoker status, BMI, family and your own medical history and I think maybe some social factors.
I wasn't deemed to be high risk but due to my age (38) I was concerned about the higher risk of chromosomal abnormalities and decided to get the Harmony test to speed up the process of finding out. If you're anywhere near London I highly recommend The fetal medicine centre. I had the test just after 10 weeks along with a detailed scan and returned at 12 weeks for another very detailed scan and to discuss the results. My NHS 12 weeks scan was a bit of a shambles so I'm extremely glad I did this. It was £400 and would have included the CVS to confirm any conditions the test may have flagged. I felt that the cost of going totally private for me wasn't warranted but I'm happy to have bits privately here and there. So far this is all I've had though. I found it difficult going from 12 weeks to 20 without a scan but held off and once you feel them moving that can give you a lot of reassurance.

I still feel shit scared about the whole process but I do feel far better now I've taken it into my own hands more and know there's options to have bits and pieces done privately if I feel totally out of control/anxious. I'd really recommend getting a note pad and writing down the things you feel you want to know specifically then ticking them off to make it more manageable.
Also write down in detail things the key things the midwife says because your brain goes like a sieve.

Anyway, that might be a whole load of 'who asked you' and as I said I'm drastically underqualified but I feel like I was where you are and I'm a bit further down the line but it's still really fresh so hopefully it might help to know that things come together eventually xx
Blossom Antenatal are doing a free breastfeeding workshop online too if anyone is interested, I haven’t done it yet as intend to sign up closer to my due date https://www.blossomantenatal.com/breastfeeding-class.php

I can’t recommend the Positive Birth Book enough either. Although there is a section about how to get your oxytocin flowing in labour and one of the options it suggests is genuinely to “flick your bean” 😂 it is genuinely though a good book!

The best feeling in the world is feeling him moving, kicking around! I smile and laugh so much when he’s really active, it’s a lovely reassurance that he’s doing just fine in there. It’s taken ALOT of hard work to get here, IVF is probably the most physically and mentally draining experience of my life so I feel totally blessed to be in this position. I do my best not to moan to anyone (other than my husband) about pregnancy symptoms, as I know how difficult it is for those who are struggling to conceive, or perhaps had a recent miscarriage or stillbirth. It’s absolutely your right to moan and feel fed up during pregnancy, cause it isn’t easy, but I will always have that in the front of my mind to be mindful of what I say and to who.

I hope that last bit doesn’t make me sound like a bitch, I’m just flying the flag for my fellow infertile friends who i have met along the way and haven’t yet had their baby. I will always support them even though I have been successful this time round,
Doesn’t make you sound like a bitch at all. I look back and moan now they’re here 😂 but after years of infertility, I would have taken whatever pregnancy symptoms were chucked at me so long as I had a healthy baby at the end of it all. Not that that isn’t what every parent wants but I think when you’ve had that extra level of worry, it adds something.

I loved, loved, loved feeling my babies move. Loved feeling them kick through the day, just loved a wee reminder that they were there with me. Their feet are not nearly as sweet now when they kick 🥴 But I so missed my bumps once they were born. I even look back at newborn photos now (which were a haze of breastfeeding and not sleeping and fourth trimester hormones) and get so broody. Tiny little newborn faces and the smell of them and their cries 😭 Just as well DH has had the snip! 😚
