Not yet, I actually feel fine aside from sore boobs! I was really really sick when I had my daughter and it hit me from about 6 weeks so I’m just bracing myself.

I recommend anything with ginger in! Ginger tea, ginger biscuits, ginger anything really helped me❤
I’ve felt sick since before I got my positive test at 3 weeks. It’s just gradually got worse and worse. My mom mentioned ginger but I really don’t like it. I considered ginger tea but I feel like tasting something I don’t like will just add to feeling sick. I’m just gonna have to wait it out.

Next Wednesday I’ve got my first phone call consultation with GP. Can anyone let me know how the start of pregnancy works in COVID times? Did you get referred straight to midwife after phone call or did you still go into GP for urine test?
I notified my GP I was pregnant, they called me the next day to discuss dates and then did the referral to the midwife for me. The midwife emailed me 10 days later with the date for my booking appointment where they basically ask you anything and everything :ROFLMAO: then had to go in a few days later for bloods and urine. The said they would call me if there was anything concerncing with bloods but if not they would discuss them at my next appointment which is the 16 week one. They said that appointment will hopefully be face to face but due to COVID could change to a phonecall.

Good luck!

Thanks for answering. So not a lot of in person appointments. Bit disappointing isn’t it. I’m going to ask a stupid question - are midwife appointments separate to scans? I had it in my head it was all the same thing but I guess I’m mistaken. How do you know where and when to book your 12 week scan? Does someone at some point explain all this to you?
Yes generally the midwife appointments will be for things like blood, measurements etc with your local midwifery team and scans are done at your local hospital/birth centre :) It probably works differently in different areas but after my booking appointment the midwife sent a request to the hospital for the 12 week scan and I got a letter in the post a week later with the date

I agree, I’m not saying either feeding technique is better but I really do want to make a good go of breastfeeding and am prepared to put up with a lot of adversity to make it work as I’d like to have the experience (plus convenience like not having to get out of bed to feed overnight). Obviously if it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out and nothing bad will happen to me or the baby, but I think it’s better to be prepared for it not to be easy and then if it is that’s a bonus. Someone put it to me like this - breastfeeding is natural, but not like breathing is natural. It’s natural like walking is natural, and you often need practice and encouragement to get it right eventually.

I’ve joined a Facebook group for breastfeeding mums which is a mine of useful information and has several lactation consultants in the group.
I love that description!!! I’ve heard “bf is natural but doesn’t always come naturally” but the analogy to walking and practice is fabulous!

If anyone is wanting to breastfeed and is in Northern Ireland, the Facebook group BFNI Breastfeeding In Northern Ireland is a fabulous resource of mums helping mums, and lots of trained lactation consultants.
