I was the same! I was 5 days overdue but was constantly getting messages from abour 2 weeks before my due date. So many were having their babies before me that were due after and it’s the worst feeling. Just try and rest, do all the things you enjoy or maybe go for a date night if possible. I went into labour the next day! X
Thank you! I’m feeling so crabby as I’ve been poorly and have PGP so I can’t do the things I wanted in the house or drive or even do daft things like just pop to the shops or do a 20 minute job! Even getting dressed is such a chore now and I have to get my husband to help.. can’t even get in and out the bloody bath on my own! Can’t wait for me to be a few months down the line 😂x

Is there any actual proven way to bring in labour? I'm 39 + 1 and I want this baby out before I get to 40 weeks. I'm so sick of being up all night and uncomfortable and mat leave has become so boring because I'm too fed up to do anything.

Seconding all the discomfort posts. Sat bolt upright in bed for about 20 minutes last night scrolling my phone with tears in my eyes at 2am because I just COULD NOT GET COMFORTABLE 😭

Colostrum harvesting or nipple stimulation apparently. Anything to get that oxytocin flowing. Not sure if it helped with me but I collected loads and then we had a meal out the day before I went into labour.
I also had 3 sweeps (week 38,39 and 40) if you’re able to request one

with my first, I was a week overdue and very fed up. I had 2 sweeps, which failed and the midwife told me he wasn’t coming any time soon and booked me for an induction the week after.

The next day, resigned to the fact that I wasn’t going to go into labour, I had a lovely day out waddling around Christmas shopping with my parents and I remember my mum getting me to walk up and down a bunch of steps to try and get things going… lo and behold, he was here by 0730 the next morning!

so I recommend up and down steps (be careful!) .. the other factors from that day I can think of were Heston mince pies from Waitrose and fajitas 🤣

I finally at 31 weeks got Ondansetron prescribed today 🥳🥳🥳 i feel like ive got one over on my doctors surgery because they had to give in and let me finally have it… wouldnt mind but i had it in my last pregnancy and its all over my medical notes too because of my hyperemesis. Now to hopefully enjoy my last 9 weeks and make my little girls Christmas so happy and joyful 🥹 ive felt so guilty because i had all these plans for me and her one on one special time before she started school in September and i couldnt do anything with her because ive been so dead so im hoping for some better times now i have this 🤞🏽

Does anyone know what the mental health midwives can offer? My trust offers them but I don’t know if it’s universal. It was suggested at my booking in appointment and 12 week appointments and I said I’d like the support, but nothings happened. I could really do with some support as I’m not dealing with everything particularly well, but I won’t chase if they aren’t much use!

With most things on the NHS, what you get is a direct result of how much you chase and how open you are to talking. The phrase ‘shy bairns get nowt’ comes to mind.

tbh midwives are generally quite poor with these things, and things aren’t often linked up. Unless you are directly asking for a referral to perinatal, things might not get done.

But you can do it yourself. If you google ‘perinatal mental health + <local NHS trust>’ there will be a number or form. Self refer yourself.

They will do an assessment. Depending on your needs- there will then be CBT on offer, medication, extra reassurance appointments with midwives or mental health nurses, sometimes extra scans and also it will feed into your birthing plan if there are additional requirements such as a private room needed for a partner to stay.

Thank you, that’s really really helpful.

I got a talking therapist really quickly, (like within a week or two from referral) and I think it really helped. Even just the psychosomatic element of knowing I could get what I was thinking out without judgment helped.

I had an amazing experience with my perinatal mental health team. I had a consultation, then met a pharmacist (in the end I declined medication) & was referred for CBT which has been life changing (my first session was within 4 weeks of referral and I’m on my 10th week)

It has made me feel so calm, content, clear and boundaried going into labour / newborn days. My mental health was in the bin prior to getting the help. Do follow up if you can ❤

Been referred for a growth scan tomorrow because baby has gone up a centile 🙃 she said it may just be because the student midwife has measured so it’s two different people but at least it’s a growth and not a decline I suppose? The last fundal height measurement was two weeks ago and was 34cm and today it was 37cm so it doesn’t seem too big of a jump?

she was measuring just below the centile line two weeks ago so I would have thought it was normal that she’d gone up a centile but what do I know 😂 at least it’s another chance to see baby I suppose?

has anyone else had a scan because baby is growing too much?

my fundal measurement jumped up two centiles in 3 weeks 😂 from just above 50th to the 97th. The general rule with centiles (and will be the same when baby is born and measured along growth centiles) is that one centile should be followed all the way along to show steady growth and is an easy way for health professionals to notice a fast/slow growth or decline. So if you were on the 50th centile for example it would be expected you would be 50th centile at each appointment.

my midwife explained that it could just be that they had caught baby in a growth spurt or awkward position, or it could be that the baby is long (my partner is 6’4 🙃) OR it could be more important things which will need monitored like gestational diabetes or too much amniotic fluid.

Luckily everything at my scan was fine she’s 49th centile for weight so perfectly average but she is going to be a long baby 😂

Personally I think the fact I was bloated and constipated the day of my appointment also didn’t help!!!! The sonographer basically said I may require a growth scan each time my bump is measured as it’s sitting at such a high centile just to keep monitoring her, although they are pretty sure it’s her legs causing the problem 😂

I don’t believe that fundal height is very accurate tbh, especially when it’s different midwives doing it. I had growth scans in all 3 pregnancies, fundal measurements varied between 2-6 weeks small. Not at the measuring stage yet this time but I’m 20 weeks and barely look pregnant most days. My kids were all born a very decent size.
I wouldn’t worry too much x

You have my sympathy, the lack of sleep for no real reason is absolutely horrific 😭 I asked my midwife this last week and she said not really, but that’s often their response tbh! How many weeks are you?
