Was it an internal or external scan, if you don’t mind me asking? I think it would be pretty rare to see the embryo that early with an external scan, not sure on internal as I’ve never had one while pregnant. I’ve had my dates put back in both pregnancies, so it is common, especially early days. I’ve also had bleeds in both.

Was this a private scan or NHS? I know the private ones technology isn’t usually quite as good as NHS - might be worth contacting your early pregnancy unit if the scan wasn’t there and you’re concerned.

Thanks so much. I am in Ireland so this was a private scan I paid for. She done a vaginal scan as she couldn’t see anything external. I’ve had no pain or bleeding a little brown yellow spotting but I think that’s common in all pregnancies. I’m just praying for a miracle at this stage

Hi everyone can someone help me please I went for a private scan on Friday thinking I was 7 weeks but sonographer put me at 6w 3 days. My LMP was 12 th October but I know for definite when we conceived which would have been two weeks later 23rd or 24th. If I count from my conception date and when I ovulated that would put me at five weeks? The reason I’m so upset is she could just see a gestational sac no yolk sac or embryo and a small bleed on the right side. I have to go back next weekend but I’ve fallen into the worst depression and don’t know how I will get through this week has anyone had this happen?

This happened to me! I won’t merail too much but I was 100% certain with dates and like you I went in for an NHS scan because I was bleeding and all they could see was the sac and it was almost a week smaller than what it should have been. I was devastated as I’d had a scan at the same gestation before with another pregnancy and that pregnancy showed everything and had a heartbeat whereas this one didn’t show anything and was 6 days behind. They rescanned me 2 weeks later and it was the worst wait ever so I ended up booking a private one inbetween. The first private one just a few days later suddenly showed an embryo with a heart beat and then the NHS one showed a full on jellybean of a baby that was so much more developed than the last two scans and it blew my mind

She’s now 34+ weeks and booting me as I type this every scan up until the 12 week scan (I went for loads as like you I was terrified and also had random/ continuous bleeds) she measured between 2 and 4 days behind, but most often 4 days. It’s because they’re so tiny and the early scans struggle to be accurate when dating

Omg this is amazing!! This has filled me with so much hope I am so happy for you that you got your baby I’m hoping my conception dates are the reason on the slowness here if I go off that baby would only be five weeks so there is a possibility that it just wasn’t ready to show itself yet. I’m holding out hope but honestly this wait is killing me. I can’t stop crying but I have to remain positive and hope

It’s a horrible wait til the next scan, try stay distracted if you can, hope everything goes well for you x

Not to be gross but sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days. Do you know for sure when you ovulated or are you just going off the date you did jiggy jiggy? I tried to book a private scan for when I was bang on 6 weeks and they actually refused saying if the days were even just a bit off then we might not see anything and didn’t want me worrying. I (like you) thought I had my dates bang on, went a week later and was put ahead 3 days, then the NHS put me back by a day I’m sorry you’re feeling so upset, not sure if the above helps but if you were 5-6 weeks during the scan it is still very early to see anything.

If you conceived on those dates you would still technically be “7+ weeks gestation” due to the way it works even though really it’s “5 weeks post fertilisation”. I’m saying this so you know that in a week you will know what’s happening, you will be far enough along.
You can’t be 100% accurate when it all happened internally and just a few days at this stage is enough to not show a yolk sac on the scan, particularly if they’re giving you 6+3 x

but said to go home with anti sickness and codeine first.

Yes I ovulated on the 23rd because I done a test and it’s either that date or the 24th! Thank you. It’s very difficult and maybe harder to accept than I thought but holding out for any hope that might be out there

It's not expected to see everything at the date you had your scan. At my 12 week scan they ended up putting my due date back to what I had originally thought. Try not to worry. I had a bleeding and cramping at what we thought was 7 weeks pregnant and a scan only showed a sac. Was told the pregnancy was not likely viable but we went back a week later and they found a heartbeat and put me down at approx 5-6 week. That put me over two weeks back! Although they did say they wouldn't really want to offically date me at this stage and just to wait for my 12 week scan.

From my LMP we should be having our NHS 12 week scan next week but because of the date change and Christmas it won't be until the New Year when ill be 14-16 weeks pregnant lol!

We've booked a private scan next week anyway to try figure it out

Has anyone had a previous traumatic birth and found something that’s helped them for the next time? My daughter is 8 and I had a traumatic time and suffered for a while after, now the closer I get the more I get anxious about giving birth again. Someone suggested hynobirthing but I’m not sure if that’ll help the anxiety

I’ve had blood tests to check my liver function for this a couple of times now as I’ve had severe itching on my palms and bottoms of my feet. Two of my liver levels (AST and ALT) were borderline so they retested this week but all my levels came back fine apart from low ferritin. I think this is something they’ll keep checking for me for the rest of my pregnancy as I’m still occasionally itchy in the evenings.

Have you had a diagnosis for this or is it something they’re checking for?

Good luck!! Aloe vera gel is also really good for relieving an itch. The midwife told me that if I did have it then the action plan would be for me to have increased weekly monitoring and they would make sure both the baby and I were okay, but that if further complications arose then an early induction would be likely. Keep us updated!
