Baby boy was born as a lovely surprise on Tues. We are over the moon and can't quite believe it happened and he's ours.

A few little bumps along the way - epidural didn't work and ended up after 29 hours giving birth in theatre with forceps. I had to stay an extra night in hospital which has been tough, little boy just wouldn't settle and they wouldn't let me walk him around. At 3am they took pity finally (cause he was keeping the whole ward up) and took him to the nursery so I got a whole 1 hr 15 minutes of sleep before he came back. I'm delirious from sleep but wanted to let everyone know.

Congratulations! Sorry to hear about the hospital- I had a similar story. Look after yourself 💕

Has anyone got gestational diabetes? I’m newly diagnosed and it feels like a minefield 🤣
Hi, no longer pregnant but I lurk and I had GD. There is a Facebook page which is really helpful so I’d join that and they have a website with loads of recipes. It’s all about pairing foods and you can subscribe for £5 a month and they’ve got a brownie recipe that kept me going ! I ended up losing some weight and then stayed the same weight throughout my last few months of pregnancy which is very normal as you’re eating better, I stuck to 3 meals and 3 snacks a dsy

I remained diet controlled with a few little blips with hormones. It’s really hard at first but you get used to the diet and testing. Any questions, just ask - it’s 100% worth it!

I’m on day 8 of being bed bound and diagnosed with HG. Been a painful week that’s for sure! But I do feel slightly better today, just wish I could shift the viral infection so I was only battling one thing at once! Going for an early scan at 10 weeks today to check all is ok, grateful it’s been offered as an option ☺🤞🏼

So many congrats lovely! Enjoy all the newborn snuggles. I’m sorry about the hospital.

I’m so furious. MIL has given Mr Rosey and I the flu and I have a sneaking suspicion she knew she was becoming unwell. I’m at my wit’s end with her and I am terrified of her and my other in laws making the baby sick after she arrives. I wish Mr Rosey and I could just move far away from them. Like another country far.

Has anyone else had like a low level uti feeling that just won’t shift?
Went to the dr yesterday for it bc it’s been going on 2/3 weeks now, not a full blown uti but it stings a bit after I wee, needing to go often but not much coming out (could just be a pregnancy thing tbf) and a painful feeling in my pelvis when I wake up or my bladders full.
She said it’s probably just pelvic pain and referred me to physio but how does that explain the rest? I asked for a urine sample to be done but she didn’t do the dip stick thing she sent it off and said it’ll be a week to get results, meanwhile I’m still suffering 😩

Looking for some opinions/ experiences etc. Probably going to be very mixed...

I am due in April and the thought of giving birth sends shivers down my spine. I am thinking of having a caesarean.
What do you all think?

Go for it! I remember listening to Kate Lawler taking about choosing to have a c section. It might have been on the second series of her podcast Maybe Baby

2/3 of my NCT group had elective c sections and had the smoothest experiences out of all of us 😂 take from that what you will! I think if you’re freaked out enough now it would take a lot to change your mind and the last thing you want is to go into childbirth scared and worried. As far as I’ve heard they are quite fine with letting people have electives nowadays. Only consideration would be whether you think hypnobirthing classes or antenatal classes might help to provide info/tips or just make it worse.

I had an elective section with my first, but hoping to shoot for a VBAC with my second if possible.
The actual section was very calm, relaxed and organised. Personally, I feel like I missed out on that ‘moment’ when my son was born as I hadn’t been in pain/through labour so it wasn’t this big rush of relief and love, it was literally just like ‘oh, my baby is here now’, and I do think that affected our bond in the first few days. However, my recovery was quick and straightforward, and I know I made the right choice for us at the time. It also meant I could clean the house and have an everything shower the day before because k knew exactly when he would be born!

Yes this is what I wanted to hear 🤣 I am all about the calmness and smooth experience. I feel like I would leave the place with PTSD if I don't have a section 🤣🤦

Yeah this has crossed my mind about the ' moment ' but I think it would be fine as long as I have her in my arms I'll be happy. Yeah I like the thought of the preparation etc. hhmm 🤔 Decisions haha

Personally I would research the pros and cons of a section both for you and baby as interventions will always carry risks. For example the fluid in babies lungs isn’t squeezed out as it is with a vaginal birth, baby also misses out on vital bacteria that’s present in the birth canal, risk of infection to yourself, recovery etc. At the end of the day, it is major abdominal surgery and not to be taken lightly.

As with everything in birth, it’s absolutely you’re choice however, you’ll never know how you’ll cope until the moment comes, you might find that it’s not as bad as you expect x

Thank you SO much! What is the Facebook page called please? I would really like to stay diet controlled!! Just going to take each day as it comes

Reducing stress in pregnancy is key so if you’ve a genuine fear of the birth process and it’s causing a lot of anxiety a c-section would be a good option and medically indicated. Equally, I don’t think any one really relishes the thought of child birth and c-sections carry risks of their own so I think it’s a real weighing up, risk vs reward job and considering that they’re are other options if it’s a pain thing. An epidural can take away so much of the pain and make it manageable. Labouring with and without an epidural was night and day for me.
I’d also say you don’t need to decide right now. You could have a very large baby or end up breech and need a c-section so the decision would be made for you as it were.

It took me a long time to reach a decision with my second (1st was emergency c-sec) I decided c-sec as my last labour didn’t progress, I found it very hard and baby was consistently measured large and I was so scared of tearing. As is happens, I went before the planned date and by the time they got me into theatre (without pain relief except 2 paracetamol 😂) it was nearly too late as I went so quickly - so turns out I probably could’ve done it as it wasn’t as bad as I’d thought this time. Plus baby was a very normal weight. I had a few complications from it but I don’t regret it because knows what would've happened actually getting baby out. I guess my point is that you can plan, but it’s more of an ‘ideal’ vs what will definitely happen so I’d try to prepare yourself for various eventualities. The more knowledge you have and flexible you can approach it, I think the more it’s easier to accept if you don’t get what you’d planned imo.

I didn’t have a section but I haven’t ruled it out for my current pregnancy as I had a bit of a scary birth experience. That being said- my physical recovery from my vaginal birth was pretty quick so I’m trying to weigh up the pros and cons!

ive had a water infection apparently for over a week, finished my anti biotics this week and had to send a repeat pee sample for them to check it and its still positive for leukocytes suggesting infection which is worrying me. Theyve sent it off to the lab and i wont find out about it until next week now but Ive had no water infection symptoms though which was weird as it was just picked up from my pee sample. Ive been on anti biotics quite a few times this pregnancy and in hospital with a chest infection on drips so ive been stressing about everything ive been asked to take/ given by the doctors on top of my hyperemesis. Im probably worrying over nothing and everything they’ve prescribed me is safe but i am a bit of a worrier

It’s quite common to have a UTI without symptoms as a woman, even without the added complication of pregnancy!
That’s why they send off to the lab to make sure they get the right antibiotics as what they give initially is just the most common antibiotic (normally nitrofurantoin) and guess that it will work, but if it is persistently sticking around they need to lab test to see what antibiotic the infection will actually react to. This happens a lot and is nothing to worry about 🩷 they won’t give you anything which isn’t prescribable in pregnancy 🩷

You can buy urine test strips from Amazon £10/100. I used them to check my protein and glucose as I was paranoid about pre-eclampsia and GD. I don’t suggest self diagnosing but they can help when you call the midwife to say ‘I’m seeing xyz, can you check please?’
Just beware of taking vit C, orange juice, lucozade or any supplements that can skew the results.

Hi all, baby girl was born the 1st December
Our labour was quite traumatic which resulted in an emergency c section and a few days stay in hospital. Baby girl had to have a course of antibiotics straight away and get the all clear from her bloods before discharge but she was amazing.
we are home and I can’t say it’s been easy but we’ve been blessed to have great support around us and things are looking up now. I had no idea what c section recovery would be like (I’d planned a water birth so didn’t even research) on top of looking after a new baby. But she’s gorgeous 💗💗
