That’s something I find weird about pregnancy, the midwives and drs just take your world for it 😆. Despite having an awful first trimester, I was still surprised and relieved to see a baby on the screen at 12 weeks

Yes we’ve booked an early 8 week scan because I don’t think I can wait until 12😆

Honestly it’s so bizarre with the doctors isn’t it, I think I needed the early scan to reassure myself that it was all real!

Hi all, sorry if I’m in the wrong place I’m just a little confused and looking for some advice if anyone has been in a similar situation…I’m currently 44 years old, with regular periods, no sign of perimenopause, and from Ovulation kits it appears that I am fertile when I would expect to be. I’m not trying to not trying to conceive (I would be happy either way) but just wondered if these things are in any way an indicator of if I can still get pregnant? Anyone else similar age to me that is currently expecting, etc? Thanks in advance xx
Im 39 so just a little bit younger than you with a 2 week old baby - based on what you said about your ovulation tests etc I would have thought it was possible? My midwife conceived naturally at 46 and gave birth at 47.

Thank you so much! Congrats on baby! Xx

Random one ladies .. but has anyone had an issue with their mother absolutely kicking off because they haven’t been asked to be at the birth.. apparently “every daughter has their mother” and I’ve been made to feel super guilty… I don’t know if I’m in the wrong or not 🥺😔

Congratulations @themuffinwoman!

I have just had the date for my 12 week scan - exciting times! Looking forward to seeing baby again and making sure everything is going okay 🤞 just a quick question for those who trained during pregnancy - so I used to trained 2-3 times a week (mixture of cardio and weights) my last workout was the day I found out I was pregnant (about a month ago) and I struggled sooo much with fatigue. I had to drop a lot of weight I'd usually use and lower reps on certain things. I haven't trained since then due to pure exhaustion and then because I'd started spotting. I really wanted to continue training during pregnancy both for myself and because I hear it can help with labour. But I'm a bit scared 🙈 I'm worried I'll overdo it or cause issues such as bleeding again. Maybe I'm overthinking things? If I do go back this week I'm planning on taking it easy as I've had a month off and obviously will scale the weights back and take my time. Did anyone else train throughout pregnancy and how did they find it?

I haven't had that issue (haven't spoken to my mother in 4 years) but no one I know has ever had their mother at their birth. Not any of my friends, not any of my work colleagues, not any of my relatives, not any of my husband's relatives.

Personally I think it's a special moment between the mother and father of the baby unless your circumstances are that you don't have a relationship with the father or he cannot be there for whatever reason. Then in that case your birthing partner should be someone else of your choosing, not someone who is guilting you into having them there.

Personally, again, I find that weirdly invasive.

No…. Couldn’t think of anything worse. I love my mum but she would have been a nightmare. I did keep her updated though. Sorry your mum is being like this. xx

I think a lot of people don't have their mothers there at the birth! If you don't want her there then please don't feel guilted into it - it's your right to have whoever will support you best and for most women that's their partner! Perhaps in your mum's day it was more common for the grandmother to be at the birth? You could try gently explaining that things have changed, and you'll just be having whoever you've chosen as your birth partner - and if she's still kicking off/guilting you, you can firmly point out that it's your baby and your choice, and that her being like that is unhelpful and insensitive!

It didn’t come out until yesterday and I think she presumed she was going to be there… basically one of my friends was talking about the reps of hospitals and she said she wouldn’t let nurses mess me around..my friend then asked, why are you going to be at the birth .. she said oh I haven’t been asked so not sure. (This was my baby shower btw)

she then messaged me last night and said “who are you having there” I said my partner …. And my friend possibly (if she wasn’t on holiday) next thing it was why not me.. etc etc and being really nasty to me about it.

Thankyou all for making me feel better, I spent the evening after my baby shower crying 😅💗

She was quite mean to me this morning and said to me “ your friend can be there when she has no idea what she is doing” so I ended up blocking her, we’ve always had a bit of a volatile relationship and I feel like I’ve spent my life stepping on egg shells because If she don’t agree with something then it’s wrong….and then makes me feel crazy 🙃 I guess the more I’m even typing this out the more I’m thinking what the actual hell to myself 😕😅

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that and that she ruined your day 🙁 it seems a lot of us are having to navigate needy mothers/in laws at the moment! Please don't feel like you've done anything wrong - hopefully if she has time to cool down she'll realise that she's not being shut out or punished and that she doesn't get automatic rights as a grandma. She's probably feeling embarrassed for assuming, and disappointed that she can't be as involved as she wants to be - but that's not your fault and she needs to learn to take a step back and respect your wishes!

Thankyou so much 🥰! I’ve been sat in my thoughts thinking I’m crazy and the bad one … even my partner said I’m not in the wrong but it’s just hard to believe when someone can be so nasty about it towards you…

My mum has been really good during this pregnancy, but she kicked off big time when we were planning our wedding because I said her big group of friends that I barely know and hadn't seen for years wouldn't be automatically invited to the wedding. I realised that most of her upset came from the embarrassment/shame of having to tell her friends they weren't invited when she knew they'd be expecting to be - I wonder if your mum has friends that have made her think she'll be heavily involved and now she's embarrassed about having to say she isn't, in case they judge her/pity her? That absolutely doesn't mean you should change your mind or feel guilty - it's sometimes just useful to know where someone's emotions have sprung from to help you manage them! Please don't doubt yourself ❤

This is what my partner said.. so would make total sense, I think she feels we’re alot closer than we actually are. I’m sorry that happened to you though! 🥺

she hasn’t always made the right choices as a mum but I won’t divulge into that I’ll be here all night.. 😅 and it’s like she cares more about what others think of her, regardless if they’re close or not… Where as I’m sort of the opposite but I do over think about what those closest think of me !

I don’t plan on backing down and until she apologises as bad as it sounds I won’t speak to her… she’s very much that person that thinks they can go round saying what she wants but if you did that to her she’s a victim 😴

That sounds really rough, I'm sorry 🙁 I'm glad your partner is backing up your choices and that you feel able to put boundaries in place with your mum to protect yourself. One of my friends has a mother-in-law who's always making public declarations about her love for her grandkids on Facebook but in reality barely asks about them, rarely visits, and when she does visit isn't very interested in playing with them. Some people just really care about the optics and don't have any intention of doing the actual work for some reason!

My Mum wasn't happy that she wasn't at my first (or any but she didn't comment on those after the first) . My sister even messaged me to tell me I'd upset her.
I'm not close with my Mum anyway and hadn't lived with her since I was 13.

I felt guilty but I wanted it to be just me and my partner! And I'm so glad it was!

You're not in the wrong for choosing what you want!

I think having your Mum is there is quite an old fashioned thing. I don't know of many doing it these days

It’s very bizarre behaviour ! If anything it is teaching me what relationship I don’t want with my daughter! Everyone’s choice is their own and it’s more so about supporting them I think. Thankyou so much xx

this sounds like my mum! She kicked me out to my dads when I was 14 as I didn’t want to move away/move schools because she had a new boyfriend…. So we’ve not always been super close But she still feels entitled.

I’m sorry you also experienced this and it sounds like it’s normal to feel guilty. I only have 7 weeks left and I think it’s sort of selfish for her to stress me out at this point but…

100% not in the wrong. I’m very close to my mum but I wouldn’t have her there because I want it to just be me and my husband - as simple as that. I don’t feel like you need any excuses as to why you wouldn’t want her there… you’re the one giving birth so you decide what you want to go with ☺

It's like you're describing my life 😂

She moved an hour away, with her new boyfriend and made me move in with my Dad and took my younger sister with her 😂

Your comment about your mum thinking you're closer than you are is exactly what it is with my Mum too

Our mums definitely sound the same! The only difference is I don’t have younger siblings, I have an older one and he hasn’t spoken to her in years ! X
