This is
I’ve just had a quick look online and it looks like the last reported case of Zika in Cape Verde was in 2016. If there’s no current outbreak I think everything is likely to be absolutely fine even if you have been bitten x
That’s what I’m hoping but I’m planning on having a chat with my midwife on Wednesday when we’re back. I think Google just throws up the worst at you and makes you panic even more. Definitely something to follow up on once we’re back in the next day or so 🤞🏼
---
As above there isn’t much you can do as you are already there but luckily you are coming home tomorrow so I would just keep your midwife apt as planned and see what they say and go from there, hopefully everything will be ok for you! 🤞🏽 try not to stress too much until you’ve got some proper guidance x
---
Due date today, have a stack of messages I’m ignoring on WhatsApp from people asking ‘any update’ 🫠 overwhelmed already 😅
Reason number one as to why I haven’t told everyone my actual due date yet, I’d hate those messages! X

I thought most people know babies very rarely turn up on their due dates?!
My mum (had my sister at 17) sat on her stairs by the front door with a bag of crochet stuff waiting to go into labour on her due date because she thought the due date is a literal instruction 😂 bless her.

happy due date day 🥰

Oh I’m still 3weeks away from due date & been getting these messages for the last few weeks 🙃 As if I’m going to have a baby, stay silent for months & hide him away from everyone.
My in laws have been calling twice a week when before we would go 7/8months without hearing a peep from them 🖕🏼😂 and they’re *making snide comments like I’m just a carrier for their sons baby.
Stick your phone on do not disturb until he’s born that’s what I’m now doing 😂

Hi guys, looking for a bit of advice/reassurance. I’m about 15 weeks now and have been away on holiday the last week - we are in Cape Verde which was booked months before finding out I was pregnant. I’ve been bitten by mozzies a few times which being over here and I have Googled it just to make sure OK and nothing I should be doing - but this has returned with the risk of a virus called Zika…. I’ve now gone into panic mode and feel so guilty for not checking anything before we came away. 😳 I have an appointment with my midwife the day after I get back so will let her know then but 🥲
Hi, I conceived my first baby in the Caribbean where there was Zika virus cases (unknown to us at the time). This was 7 years ago and zika was “new”. I told my midwife and I ended up on the “zika pathway” which meant I was scanned every 4 weeks throughout my pregnancy to monitor the baby’s growth.
As I said this was a long time ago but just thought I’d let you know what might possibly happen x

Thank you. I wouldn’t have booked if I had known but that teaches me for not looking into it. I’ll mention to my midwife as soon as I’m back in the country and go from there 🤗

Which is the best - baby bjorn or ergo baby? And which model is best? I’ve been set on a baby bjorn but heard ergo’s are better but there’s so much choice 🥵

Hi all, still no baba 😬 my waters broke this morning but it’s a slow trickle. Went to the hospital who confirmed it and going back tomorrow morning to be induced if nothing happens overnight. I’m ok if I don’t think about everything too much, if anyone has any positive stories about anything similar with inductions/waters breaking please do share. I’ve done a really good job of thinking of labour as a future me problem and here we are 😂
Thinking of you MW - hope you’re getting closer to meeting baby muffin now! Xx

I got an ergo omni 360 with my first and really liked it. Easy to put on and comfortable but I never tried a baby bjorn so can’t say which is better! My best friend had a baby bjorn and think they got on with it well.

I have an ergo 360 too. I don’t know much about the baby Bjorn but the 360 I used for a loooooooong time - can’t quite remember when we stopped using it but it was so handy.

One of mine hated the ergo 360  (actually hated most slings and carriers thinking about it!) but I found it quite comfy to use and used it more with the next one. In the end I used a Connecta a lot more often that I initially borrowed from the sling library. Some kids hate carriers, some love them 🤷‍♀️

Don't worry too much, if there have been no active cases for a while it's a low chance for you to catch something in a tourist area.

Plus remember there are lots of pregnant women in that country too who live there and there's been no cases since 2016!

Just have a chat with your midwife when you are back.

Also lots of celebs go on baby moons to the Caribbean all the time....

Hey no medical professional but I was in a similar situation. I went to a zika risk country the month before I conceived and they say you’re supposed to wait 3 months after you come back. I obviously panicked but mentioned it at my first midwife appointment and she didn’t seem remotely phased said it was old news and she had never heard of anyone having it. I mentioned it again at my 12 week scan again they seemed confused why I was concerned but said everything was fine. We also had friends in a similar situation they conceived while in Mexico and everything was okay, again they raised it and were told it was more a disclaimer as they can’t say they are zika free just incase they aren’t but the risks are so low they weren’t even worried. Obviously still raise it with your midwife if you are worried but just wanted to give some reassurance 😊

This is an extremely random question lol but 31 weeks now and starting to think about what's needed for hospital bag - are packing cubes worth purchasing for the hospital and if so has anyone any recommendations? I had a look on amazon earlier but there are thousands and I just couldn't see the wood for the trees tbh!

100% YES

I got a couple of packs of these - they were absolutely brilliant for keeping everything organised- couldn’t recommend them more.

I just got some large freezer bags to pack separate things in and wrote on them with a sharpie 😅

I’ve packed mine using various size sandwich bags 😂 Clothes & towel I’ve left either underneath / on top of everything else then wrote on them with a sharpie

I used large zip freezer bags too last time and they worked just as well!

Another vote for standard ziplock bags.

If you’d get good use out of the packing cubes, then go for it, otherwise I wouldn’t spend on something you won’t necessarily need.

I got a couple of the clear toiletry bags for my hospital bag because we both needed a new one for trips anyway, and it’s probably going to be useful it being clear so my OH can see exactly what’s in each one.

Yes, I should have said we travel every month and my OH travels regularly so it made perfect sense! But I love them 🤣
