I've just managed to reserve this at my library (y)
My advice if you want it 😁 is to forward make some of the meals e.g. the rice ones and freeze them to take some of the pressure off.
Oh and buy some digestive enzymes to take before each meal, as it can be a shock to the system if you currently eat a rubbish diet or have trouble eating beans. I have IBS and am fine most of the time with this diet, but some things can affect you. Just having a couple of the enzyme tablets before your meal sorts it.
The day 3 evening meal was epic for taste sensation but I did alter it as I don't like red kidney beans, so I put a mix of black beans and haricot beans in instead. The mix of the salad and hotpot in your mouth was tasty. (Or else it's just my cooking 🤭).
I've invested in some walnut oil now that I like the recipe.

Your body does it’s own detox…. That’s what your liver and kidneys are for….
Try to eat a balanced diet with plenty of whole foods veg/plants/seeds/nuts/herbs etc, move your body and strengthen your muscles. Drink lots of water/fluids. We know what’s not so good for us so minimise where possible but don’t deprive completely things you enjoy. Get outside in nature: trees, mountains, the sea, it’s all so good for us.

Look at things that may help like supplements but remember we are all different and check reviews and quality of supplements. Don’t fall under the peri bandwagon with things you don’t need!

HRT if that is what you choose/need. I know many people having good experiences with it and it’s made a difference when struggling but it can’t work just on its own. We have to look after our bodies too.

Follow people who know what they are talking about not just jumping on a menopause bandwagon.

I recently read a book by an endocrinologist, thinking that surely they must be the source of truth in all of this. And one rather unwelcome theme throughout was that it was on us to help ourselves. Yes, menopause is tit for many women but so is ageing really and the way we could live at 25 we just cant get away with at 50. Good sleep doesn't just happen, we have to exercise to keep healthy and so on. Personally, I'm starting to see it as 50% of symptoms and changes you can have some impact on (weight gain and sleep for example) and 50% you have no control over (flushes, sweats etc). That's where HRT is needed I guess. Sounds trite but I'm also trying to just be grateful to still be here as some friends and colleagues my age have sadly passed.

The amount of people with something to sell in this arena really makes me uncomfortable.

Wouldn't it be brilliant if we all had an assigned personal expert who could tell us exactly what we need? Things we're not doing/taking that would benefit us. Things we are doing/taking that are a waste of time. Things that could be making the process worse... or better.

Like, I've mentioned my constipation issue. I can't comfortably go without needing to take some stimulant, and even then it's hit and miss.

I never 'bother' my GP surgery with anything, but had a recent telephone appt with one of them regarding it because it's making me miserable.

Honestly, the GP made me feel like I was wasting her time. Like it was some trivial issue that I should just get on with. As soon as I mentioned I'd had IBS in the past and could have a tendency for a lazy bowel, she just leapt on that and wouldn't let go.

At one point, I felt like I was being questioned by a barrister rather than a GP, trying to trip me up regarding what I was saying. She kept saying I've had this problem all my life, which I never said ("Yes you did!!!") I've never even had an IBS diagnosis by a doctor.

Absolutely no care or regard for my concern about it, and she basically just encoraged me to become dependent on laxatives 🤬

I totally agree. There's so much rubbish out there and you end up damaging your body if you use it. That's why I've decided to go back to what worked for me and made my mind and body feel great - and just work out from there.
I'm so cynical nowadays. I wonder why. 🙄

I totally get you. Being made to feel you're a hypochondriac bothering them when you never hardly go see the GP. Then when they realise that you are really ill no apology.
I was recommended a book which gets rave reviews from the public. I got it from the library and had to go buy my own copy by page 38. It was a compilation of the results of independent trials and looking at the diets of certain peoples.
It also points to what Big Pharma and big business do with their own appointed trials which we all fall for i.e. it worked on mice so let's publish it and flog something based on it. No mention that it had no effect on humans as they can't make money from that.
It seems that simple cheap things from the grocers are better medicine. Certain spices for example.
I was amazed to read about a trial where they were looking at organ transplant rejection and accidentally cured someone's cancer. We don't seem to hear about things like this as it is drowned out by the money makers flogging their wares. If they can't make money out of it they're not interested.

Things having a funny taste.

A new bottle of salad cream and tartare sauce, from different supermarkets, both have strong taste , a bit vinegary and a bit like horseradish.
I made pancakes at the weekend, and despite the flour being used on pancake, they had a funny floury taste to me. Everyone else said they tasted fine. And my oats tasted funny recently.
I haven't had covid or sinus type symptoms so can't blame that.
I think my sense of smell has changed. Taste and smell changed for me when I was pregnant, so it’s entirely feasible if your hormones are all over the place.

When I was breast feeding my milk was low. The midwives told me to drink fenugreek tea. It really helped. I smelt very strongly of fenugreek though!

Being awake at 3 am just hot, with achy joints 😡
I’ve been sleeping better and less painfully the last three nights, and I’ve been drinking loads of pineapple juice in the evening on those days. I looked it up and pineapple has been linked with lowering inflammation and boosting seratonin production in your gut and helping with melatonin. I’m also way less bloated now, I look like I lost 10lb off my stomach.

It’s so annoying isn’t it ☹. My longest gap so far has been 123 days. Currently on 77 days (I’m 56).
It is, that's the longest I've managed to go and I really had high hopes...but it wasn't to be.

Wow that's amazing! I love pineapple juice but hardly ever buy it, I clearly need to start drinking it more!

Update on my new diet(no wheat/dairy/meat for 28 days).
I'm just over halfway through and feeling much better. Sleeping better, not aching as much and brain feels a lot clearer. No weight loss but no weight gain so win win, especially as I've been having oil, manuka honey, dates, nuts etc. Really enjoying the food so can see me definitely doing this 75% of the day as recommended after the 28 days. Rest of day eat what I like.
Had to have a tuna sandwich once and felt like I had a boulder in my stomach, so could be the bread or fish. 🤔

Glad you’re feeling better but it sounds very restrictive and whilst there might be something in some of it that you’re reacting to, you have potentially cut out a lot of nutrients. I know I’ve felt a lot better by increasing the amount of protein I eat and, whilst this has meant I’ve increased the amount of eggs I’m eating (which I assume you’re still eating), I’m also making quite a bit of kefir and eating lots of fish. Apologies if you’ve already said, what made you make these changes, is it following a dietician’s advice or trying things you think may help.

If you scroll back a bit you'll see my messages about the diet and reasons why.
I'll start adding things back in 2 weeks time.
Not having eggs at moment.
One thing I like is that I'm understanding what to do with all those nuts and seeds including chia and flax that i had no idea what to do with. My omega 3 input must be off the scale at the moment.
Another bonus is my freezer is chock full of prepared meals so my freezer looks organised for the first time ever.
Will have to see how my food spend is affected.
Also I appear to have lost my sweet tooth and am voluntarily eating oatcakes and peanut butter and melon as snacks amongst other things.
ETA I'll be interested to see how you get on with it Sheeeet. My favourite dish so far has been the red kidney bean hotpot with mixed salad leaves and walnut dressing, as mentioned in one of my previous posts.

👋It could be months before I get to the front of the queue! Also I can't tolerate quite a few foods but looking forward to reading it
Strange thing was that last time I did it 21 years ago my friend said it would be a good way to find out intolerances. It ended up being peppers.
This time round I've had no bother with them. Although I have had the red or yellow ones only.

I've just ordered the book, I do think diet is really key to this and its so personal for everyone, what might work for one might not for another. But I prefer to try this sort of thing as opposed to giving my money to some Tiktoker recommending some magic cure. I think the body and how it works is so important to understand. Have you heard of seed cycling, is that what you are doing re: chia and flax seeds

Any ideas of anything I can take for aching legs? If I sit down for more than 10 mins I walk like a 90 year old for about 2 mins when I get up as my whole legs just ache so much when I walk then it dies down. I'm already taking magnesium, horse chestnut and evening primrose.
