I'm 55, I have a coil so no periods but I'm 100% convinced I'm not through it yet. I've just had a few weeks of poor sleep and a tooth that has been loose for years has been even looser. Last night I slept better and my tooth is more stable. My teeth have started moving all over the place in general over the last few years so I really recommend that you all keep up with your dental appointments.
I’ve lost 6 teeth during peri.

Hello!
Just wondering if anyone had symptoms of - regular periods, however irregular bleeding during your cycle. After my ovulation discharge (clear) I then have 24-36 hours of red blood and then black discharge for few days after this. Happened for the last 3 months, and I have a doctors appointment next week. Definitely not pregnant.
Just wondering if it could be perimenopause symptoms, did anyone else have this? I am 37, but my mum experienced menopause at 43. Thank you ☺
Sorry I can’t help because no, I didn't have this but I didn’t want your post to be ignored.
I think it is good to get it checked out though.
Is your mum still about to ask if she experienced the same?

Very poor sleep at the moment - waking in early hours like clockwork every night and can take me hours to get back to sleep, so I’m tired every day. Anyone have any tips for sleep? I’ve tried magnesium, which a lot swear by, but it didn’t help me.

Also, does anyone suffer with muscle tension? Is this a peri thing? I get really tight muscles, especially in my upper back and neck. This is one of the reasons I can struggle to get back to sleep at night, because it tends to flare up then.

Oh God please tell me that’s not a thing? I lost one tooth last year. Thankfully it’s at the back.
Since then though I apparently grind my teeth at night. Never did it before I lost that tooth.
I regularly get a weird sensation in my teeth in the evening. I can’t really explain it - they don’t ache but it’s like my teeth actually itch.
I never even thought it could be peri related.

I had frozen shoulder for months & very bad insomnia. Within 3 weeks of going on patches I had no joint pain & sleep was better.

Yep, it's definitely a thing for a lot of reasons, some linked to peri, some just natural aging.

O

Wow that's terrible, that must be really upsetting.
Very upsetting but I don’t know if it’s all down to peri. I have had gum disease and that causes bone loss but I had regular treatment for it but it’s during peri my teeth became really loose. Dentures are on the horizon ☹

Think it’s similar to teeth problems in pregnancy but of course pregnant women get free dental treatment for a year after so shame we don’t in menopause.

I had started grinding my teeth as well.

Magnesium helps, but in larger amounts for me. If I put 2/3 of a kilo bag in the bath it really helps. Early hours waking can be blood sugar related so you could trey eating a low gi diet and see if it helps, and if you can’t, at least avoid a lot of sugar after 5pm.
Valerian is a great sleep aid, I’ve found it helps balance my deep/rem sleep out, as it normally have way too much rem.

Thank you, I do often eat quite high carb and sugar in an evening, especially week before time of month! And often when I wake I feel peckish, so i’ll definitely bear that in mind.

I’ll give valerian a try too. I don’t have a sleep tracker, but it feels like I dream a lot, so I suspect I’m having a lot of REM and lacking deep sleep.

Restless legs is a thing for me, but more recently if feels like my leg muscles are tight and happens at night when watchin tv, it’s painful and it makes me stretch my legs out but that doesn’t help…. It’s my sign to go to bed. I’ve taken magnesium before but these tablets are large and I’m one of them adults who struggle taking tablets. Don’t have a bath either. I need to get some tonic water in.

You can put it in a bucket and soak your feet. They’re the bit that absorbs most anyway. I’ve also had magnesium calcium powder before, you can drink it in some cordial, it’s not awful. Think mine might have been Viridian.

My worst symptom for the last couple of months is aching legs after sitting for more than about 10 mins. I get up and I feel like I've got false legs, there's a consistent ache that's almost a pain all over. Worst thing is I can't hide it if there are people around and I have to hobble for about 2 mins. I hate it and I can see people looking at me as if I'm 80.

that sounds like my legs, it’s hard to explain. My husband says to me when do you start the Tour de France cos I kick about! ( his paralysised so doesn’t get it and says I do it to make him jealous 🤣🤣🤣)

Bless your husband!

It's like there's a toxic substance in my legs and it takes minutes to clear. It must be in the blood mustn't it for it to be so evenly spread?

I've really tried to help myself but there's no getting away from it that menopause is tit.

It’s so painful, I do get up and walk about…hard when have a comfy cat on my legs!
Tonic water works well! I used to drink a glass every night and found that helped.

My hips and thighs are just done in.

I've been taking 30 min afternoon walks 3-4 times a week for over a year, and was feeling better for it, but I can feel the hip tension after about 20 mins now.

I also took up tap dancing in the new year (done bits and bobs in the past) I really wanted it to be a fun new hobby that I could practice at home. I was good on it for about a month and a half, but now I just can't face it. My hips and thighs are just not up to it 😩

I'm definitely now 'officially' in Peri - my period in Jan was super light and now my March period 13 days late. Also since Jan, my skin (on my face) is becoming intermittently sensitive with mild rosacea. And now exercise is doing me in.

Also, constipation is a joke. Nothing really helping much anymore and I'm trying my best avoid any hard-core laxatives.

😕

Assuming you've checked for anything else going on (ie blood tests for low or high anything) then please do consider HRT, my achy hip is so much better, I've stopped getting night sweats, I sleep better and my anxiety is much more balanced. It's not a quick fix and it took about 6 months of steady dose to stabilise but I'm so much more me as a result.
