Can definitely feel for you with this. We had 3 years of the football on one house. Moved because of it and then ended up with another 9 years where we are now. Leather football against a wall, over and over. We could hear it in our house absolutely everywhere, bought sound systems for the TV could still hear it. Had to wear headphones all day working from home. We are detached and it even rattles our house. I have therapy for a stress disorder caused from of it. It’s a form of noise torture. The sound goes right through me. A lot of people don’t get it but certain, constant repetitive noises and frequencies can really mess you up. Moreover the little people smash the ball into peoples cars too but no one seems to bat an eyelid about that either. The only rest bite is rainy days. I dream about living miles from anyone where you can actually sit in the garden and read
Or poor you. I so sympathise. It is noise torture. People don't understand if it doesn't bother them eg my OH. He'd suggest we sit in the garden on a sunny day and even the thought made me so agitated I'd have to pretend I had a migraine so I could go to bed with my earplugs rammed in and head under the pillow. I came to hate good weather as it would get worse. I started to hear the bloody football even when it wasn't happening.
I think some people, including you and me, are very sensitive to certain noises and find it more than annoying but deeply distressing, depressing and all consuming. Misophonia I think is the name. But knowing that doesn't make it any better.
I hope you get your lovely quiet house one day.

I agree. When the noise stops, you're still on alert for it anyway. Had neighbours for a while who liked playing ridiculously loud music in the small hours, most weekends, it drove me up the walls. Thankfully they moved out, eventually.

Yes even when it stops you can't relax or enjoy it because you know it's only temporary 😔

I love my dog and love walking with her and enjoy her company. I don’t see why you would even get a dog to never walk it, to be out all day and to just leave it distressed. What’s the point?
I don’t get it either. It’s cruel.

Hi everyone I was on this thread about 2 years ago because my neighbour was making my life hell. We moved house thankfully and I love my new house. But once again we live next door to complete kn*bheads. We tried making an effort and being friendly but then we noticed they were thumping on our shared wall, slamming doors and stomping up their bare wood stairs constantly and hoovering it aggressively so the attachment bangs against the treads and echos. We spoke to them about it to try and nip it in the bud like I wish I had at the old house, they were apologetic and it stopped for a week. Now they do it on purpose and it’s stressing me out to the point where I had to increase my anti depressants dosage. They don’t even acknowledge us anymore if we bump into each other. I don’t know what we’ve done to annoy them, maybe they didn’t like us saying anything but I feel like I must be the problem for it to happen in yet another house. We’re not a noisy family, we’re out the house all day with work and school, it just sucks feeling like wherever we live no one has respect for others when it comes to their noise and lifestyle. We noticed the lady was pregnant so we began being more aware of our own noise as I know when you’re pregnant and have a newborn you just want peace, it made no difference. We even ‘tested’ them by making the same noises back and they were furious. Obviously I don’t expect silence and my noise sensitivity is my issue, but who needs to slam doors or bang on walls!? Sorry for the rant, it’s supposed to be our forever home but it’s making me feel fed up now.

It’s really hard not to take it personally when it happens with different neighbours. As I said above we moved from a semi to a detatched thinking it’d solve all our noise issues. And it did for about 3 months before people there turned into noisy assholes too. It just about broke me as I couldnt believe it was happening again. We’d spent so much getting a bigger detatched house and really pushed ourselves for what. I thought well it must be us or we are cursed. But I just genuinely think more and more people are totally ignorant to anyone around them, they’re everywhere. Other people don’t even exist and everyone feels like they can do what they want with no consequences. Which is true most of the time as the council/police do nothing to help anyone who is a victim of their neighbours. Just try and think of the bigger picture, you’re a better person with a lovely family and they obviously just have issues. There’s lots of us on here in similar neighbourhoods situations and that always helps me but also makes me feel so sad for us at the same time

Sorry to hear you have the same issues, I agree people are just more selfish, rude and inconsiderate these days. Gone are the days neighbours can be friends! It really can destroy your dream home, I’m trying not to let it this time but I can only take so much before I snap 🤦‍♀️ councils are completely useless with complaints, it made my last situation so much worse so I’d never go to them again. Fingers crossed these people move house and are replaced with nice neighbours for us all!

I really don't know what I need to do to get my neighbour to stop playing loud music. He kept me up last night (and Saturday night) and I'm being forced to listen to it now

He's been written to twice and the housing officer has visited him to tell him to move his speakers. He clearly hasn't done that

Totally agree. I see it in everyday things. I was on a bus journey recently where an mole played some sh1te at top volume on his phone throughout. He was several sizes bigger than me, so I didn't dare ask him to dial it down. Nor did anyone else.
Even walking along a footpath, so many people seem to assume that there's no need to allow for someone coming the other way to pass by. I've had people looking amazed because I didn't evaporate into thin air to let them by, while they made no effort at all to leave even a small bit of path free.

Noisy neighbours are a nightmare. I had the loud music in the early hours ones, for a number of years. I had the one who apparently thought that noise travelled only one way, so all noise from her house was totally acceptable. Meanwhile if I had a tradesman in to do work, for example, she would be lying in wait for either them or me, to start whining about noise. I pointed out that I had put up with plenty of noise from her house over the years from both her and her kids. This was complete news to her. 🤷‍♀️ Plus she had plenty of noisy work carried out too. FFS.

My neighbours back yard makes Steptoe’s junk yard look like Marie Kondo had been on a cleaning spree.

I’ve got a skip on my drive and I’m getting absolute hell from everyone for needing to park in the street. I’ve been told to move, they sit on the horn until I move, they double park with me so the street is blocked so I’m forced to move, and if I go out they strategically park to fill up the space. They’ve even shouted at delivery drivers for stopping outside my house because “she’s taking up enough space”.

Oh this is so bleeping predictable - 9pm Saturday and the music starts. He has his speakers up against my wall (which he's been told to move and clearly hasn't) and it's too loud.

I have to wear ear defenders just to drown out his noise so I can sleep

It's not the time. It's the fact that it's too loud

Oh no poor you that would drive me insane. I would start to have very wrong violent fantasies.
And yes record it and keep a log of times.
Some people are just utter c*nts.

I've recorded it. My housing officer has spoke to him a few times and visited him. I've now reported him to the council

We’ve got loads of perpetual DIYers here who destroy the peace day in, day out, late at night, weekends - nobody says anything to them. I had my kitchen done a few years ago and have had nothing done since then … but based on my experience of that, I’m absolutely dreading the next two weeks of hate and abuse for getting a new bathroom.

I feel bad for saying given what others have to put up with but my neighbour over the back is still out with his petrol powered lawnmower every couple of days and when he isnt doing that hes at the adjoining fence at least 3 times a day like a border patrol guard. It's the fact that hes up at our fence so much it spoils my enjoyment of the garden. Hes got 3 other fence borders hes rarely at but the one that borders us he seems to live at.
