Nigel didn't give a toss about the security of migrants staying in accommodation that he was highlighting in that video I posted earlier.

He can fuck off playing the victim card which he loves to do.

I think Pete meant "plebs" as in, that's likely what Farage and pals think of folk.

I can't disagree with the views on the left and their disdain of working class people. I abhor the 'gammons' shit and I think the 'people who vote Brexit are thick', as well as being offensive, was an absolute gift to Farage and pals. The left are increasingly inaccessible to your traditional working class Labour voter as, realistically, how are you going to want to sit alongside someone who calls you daft and uses your own lack of privilege as a means of making themselves look holier than thou, when Tabitha is down the foodbank posting photos of herself handing tins of beans out to folk from your own neighbourhood but also calling you a gammon. It just doesn't sit right and you'd feel used.

The problem is though, Farage et al have used the same people, capitalised on fears and feeling disenfranchised and underrepresented and left behind, gone down the whole 'oof man of the people down the pub' carry on when they're pretty much cut from the same cloth. They don't really give a shit. You don't hear much mention of them wanting things to be better for disabled folk, for example, or creating more social housing so folk can live in nicer homes that aren't damp as fuck. The latter again are just used when migration is brought into the conversation.
Yeah that’s the issue. Any working class white people who object to all the immigration are called Brexit voting gammons, and any higher class people who object to it are called fascists, xenophobes, racists. So nobody’s allowed to speak about it.
I agree there’s a lot of societal issues at the bottom that should be put into focus, like as you say housing, but the people in power just have no awareness as it’s not a political bargaining tool :(

Does anyone know the phone number to ring, to vote for Nigel Farage please?
I’m a celebrity app, 5 free votes ❤ sure there’s a number too to give him double the love
---
Nah he’s still a racist, xenophobic cunt. Did laugh at his version of I’m too Sexy though 😂
Examples of his racism and xenophobia please. Do it for Matt ;)

It wouldn't take support away from Nigel because they want to hear someone coming out with xenophobic/racist bullshit that sits in perfectly with their prejudices.
The thing is though is that it’s the scale of these issues. Xenophobia is something like not trusting the one Polish or Caribbean family down the street because they’re foreign, which would be, of course, intolerant and silly. It’s not being concerned about millions of foreigners coming in which puts a huge strain on our resources. People have a right to be concerned about that.

Labour's immigration policies hardly even get discussed and we all know that a lot of Reform voters are voting for one reason only
The problem is that a lot of the media will only report the most egregious cases they can find of people not being deported, while at the same time ignoring any actual increase in deportations or decrease in the use of hotels. And when those things do get reported once in a blue moon the Reform supporters just say it's lies or that it's not enough.

He's just asking questions 😀
He's deliberately provoking the situation and he knew exactly what reaction that would get.

You just have to listen to the speech he gave after the Southport stabbings to know he was trying to hint at something to incite his followers after unfounded rumours about the attacker being a Muslim asylum seeker were doing the rounds.

But this assumes, or implies, that people don’t have actual experiences of mass immigration in their local area. It completely denies the reality that some people are actually living. Not understanding this is where both the mainstream parties have gone badly wrong. I think they are very slowly getting the message but there’s still such an ideological bias - particularly on the left - that “concern about too much immigration = racism”.

Your argument is, “all these people who vote for Reform are too stupid to understand that they’re just being misled by the media”. It’s a deeply patronising argument that has been employed for years now against Brexit voters, Trump voters and now Reform voters, and it doesn’t work any more.

A better approach (IMO) is to put aside one’s own assumptions and get genuinely curious about why large numbers of people - many of whom who previously voted both Tory and Labour - are turning to Reform as an alternative in droves. Have all these people all suddenly become right-wing extremists?
I really like this idea. I don’t know if my experience counts as any sort of proof but this is how my views have changed:

Maybe a decade ago, if you’d asked me about Farage/UKIP/Brexit Party etc I’d have said: “all a nasty bunch of right wing facists, hateful idiots”

I was a remainer, europhile, liberal left wing type voter.
My in-laws are, husband is etc.

Now, at that time, I lived in a different area of the country - north west England, an area that was relatively diverse, not hugely affluent but not run down.

I got married, ended up living in a not so sparkly area of North Wales that’s been ruined by lack of investment, unemployment and over the last 5 or 6 years an unsustainable amount of immigration from Eastern European countries.

All our local shops have disappeared, all replaced by Eastern European supermarkets, vape shops and nail bars. The street we live on, English/Welsh speaking locals are the minority. You’re more likely to hear a Polish or Romanian language spoken when you step out the front door.

There’s no community or integration anymore and no sense of local bonds. I often feel threatened and scared and don’t go out alone anymore - we get lots of groups of single Eastern European young men hanging round on the streets causing issues.

We regularly have to get the police and social services out to our Romanian neighbours because of their awful behaviour towards each other and their children. It’s scary.

My opinions therefore have altered somewhat. I don’t think mass immigration works. Do I think we need some migration? Yes. Do I think it’s sustainable at the levels it’s at? No. Does that make me a right wing bigot? NO. It makes me someone who has seen both ends of the scale and has moderated my view.

If you asked my in-laws who live in an affluent area of NW England with little to no migration and in an almost exclusively white, British middle class street - they’d tell you that ‘all migrants and refugees are welcome’ - but funnily enough, they don’t want to come and visit us here, because it’s a ‘bit rough…’ and make fun of the fact their son and daughter in law are living in a terraced house in a run down area.

My husband is hanging on to the liberal, left wing - mustn’t say anything bad about immigrants, but he’s not happy here either.

Right, sorry for the ramble…

Posted on the UK politics thread but relevant here. This could be why Ziah Yusuf is being pushed front and centre (apart from the v awkward position in between the british public and his best friend Donald in regards to our involvement in the Iran war)

The Farage story could be huge.

There will be an investigation into the £5m and why it was given.

Its compounded by the fact that same donor has donated to 3 Farage backed projects, Brexit Party, Ukip and Reform.

And interestingly because Farage said he wasn't going to stand (on the record) this payment came in and then he said he would stand, this looks like a persuasive payment from an already politically active donor followed by policy advocacy aligned to the donors interest (Nigel's sudden interest in cryptocurrency Lib Dems call for inquiry into Farage bitcoin deal - BBC News ).

This could even go further than breaking standards, it could break electoral law, and even bribery laws.

If it is found that he has breached the house of commons standards he will be suspended from the house. If the suspension goes over 10 days or more they will trigger the recall of MP's act. MP's will vote for forcing a by election in Clacton (only need 10% of MP's to do this so it is likely).

This is his statement

Note there was a small minority who egged on the BLM rioters too and many more of us, me included, who agree with the basic principle that equality matters and discrimination is wrong, but didn’t agree with the more extreme stuff, setting fires, being violent and so on.
insincere guff designed to try to stop him going to jail. The only reason he wanted to recall parliament was to spit his venom covered by parliamentary privilege.

Nah, still not a fan x

Oh and Soph, nothing personal I write is towards you hun, just hate this man with a vengeance, but I think I hide it well x

Do they have one original idea currently?

I’m sure this is appealing to their voters but it’s embarrassing how blatantly he is copying US politics - especially as I’m sure Labour was floating the idea of using off shore prisons not that long ago?
Stop the boats? 🙄
I wonder how long it’ll be before he comes up with the totally original idea of turning the Isle of Wight into Alligator Alcatraz?
If he’s really that bothered about sex offenders he can start with these two.

I replied to you? Recommend the I’m a celeb app as it’s free but Corfu also lists the number
Thank you, I think I missed your post Doh!

Just Google the voting numbers. That's the only way anyone will know them 😆
Thanks to all of you.

Nigey? 🤮
It’s like calling Johnson “Boris”. The friendly, cuddly persona whilst making a living lying to your face and putting yourself and your own ego before the people you are conning. There is nothing nice, friendly and cuddly about Nigel Farage
I wonder how many people are voting for him because they are genuinely fans and how many are voting for him because they want to see him eating penis and testicles and get covered in slime and cockroaches?
I don't watch the show, but I'm going to vote for him in the hope that he will help get the reform party off the ground. We need an alternative party to vote for at the next election. If we're allowed to vote for the next Government that is!

We'll have all the geriatric British folk living in Spain back pls and we'll 'send back' the non-British folk working in hospitals here, that'll sort us right out 🇬🇧
Why do people do this? why not like for like? Do you really think those coming here by the boatloads are qualified Drs? If so why are there gangs of them roaming around not working but begging and intimidating people? What on earth is the point of letting so many come here to be homeless when we already have a housing crisis? The charities cannot keep up with them.

My small town is the same, but without immigration. The reason this is happen is because of 14 years of Tory misrule.

It resonated with me and I'm neither. We're chocka. Why are you so sure you're right?
Seriously, how are we 'chocka'? There are loads of jobs available, for a start. The Uk's problems aren't being caused by immigrants (who are generally younger and net contributors to the economy - anyone interested in facts can read it here: https://assets.publishing.service.g...he_Fiscal_Impact_of_Immigration_on_the_UK.pdf - they're being caused because the country is poorly managed and money is being wasted hand over fist so services are crumbling. We've all been told to blame it on brown people, but if you actually think about it, it isn't true. Good ole Nige is a self interested conman.

A lot of the working class being called gammons and having their concerns dismissed (NOT these rioters or around this incident, just in general) are more vulnerable on several levels than my university peers posting on social media stirring things up calling them racists and victims of the nasty Tories, stoking hate and resentment. It happens on both sides
We've heard quite a good few voicing their concerns and it usually boils down to them coming out with racist/xenophobic bullshit, when they'd be best off directing their "concerns" to the Tory party who have been more than happy to blame people from other countries for societal issues when, of course, most of them are down to the Tories themselves. These people are victims of the Tory party in more ways than one.

But there's no more prominent stirrer for all of that of course than Farage. And he's no defender of the working class, playing them like a fiddle.

You seem to have an issue with xenophobes and racists being called out. Very telling, that.

It ain't asylum seekers who've run this country down - look to various Tory governments who've depleted many public services and flogged much of the UK's infrastructure off over the years.

And then, of course, they point to the various people coming from the EU saying "They're why the country's turned to shit".

And millions of mugs fell for it.
There’s too many people, basically because of very high immigration levels which is why the public services are under strain. A bit of immigration is fine and beneficial. As Monga says there’s a low wage economy which further makes things a race to the bottom, fuelled again by lots of low skilled immigration. Few Brits are Uber drivers living in cramped HMOs.
