We're all entitled to change our minds and opinions over the years.

A few years ago, a friend gave off stink about 'so many foreigners coming to live in the UK'. I was outraged by this declaration and told him that we were so fortunate to be living a decent life and taking it for granted, and why shouldn't other poor souls who lived in horrible, poverty-stricken countries have the right to come here and have a slice of living an equally decent life.

Then, after a few years of seeing what the UK has become, with people arriving here in droves, intent on turning our nation into the ones they'd left behind, demanding this & that. So many cities now almost no-go areas for white people, and horrible, archaic rituals/cultures carried out in the name of religion ie children, girls and even animals - I'm afraid I now see his point, and I regret arguing with him because I see now that he was right to be concerned.

No-one with any decency about them wants to deny anyone else a chance of a better life, but I know if I was to escape any horrible regime/war-torn country, etc, wanting a better life for myself and my children, I think I'd be happy to live by their laws. I'd certainly not be showing my gratitude by turning on the very country that was good enough to take me in and start demanding the host country accommodated every horrible ritual that British people find offensive and abhorrent. FGM, Honour killings, Sharia Law, animal sacrifices (and even children sacrifices!) to name but a few.
Please. This really is reactionary bollocks. Come to London, mate. People of every culture mix and get on. I don't recognise any of what you're going on about. It wouldn't surprise me that you come from an immigrant background yourself like me (my Irish parents moved here in the 60s). Drawbridge xenophobes are the worst kind of xenophobes, after all.

Indeed. Alas, some people's comprehension skills don't seem to be up to much.

The idea of people worrying about the boats...let's just say that I clearly mix in different circles. There's not one person I know that I've heard coming out with that, thankfully.
Ahh, so a case of I'm alright Jack. You are not affected nor is anyone you know, so people are making it up or exaggerating.

There's been a fair few examples given on this thread already I'm sure.
There really hasn't. only "he said" but nothing of him actualy saying it.

Okay but it was obviously built for a reason, based on research and economic demand, for leisure and business people in the area. The clue is in the name, holiday inn. Why is it now a storage facility for migrants, bringing a loss of business and spending money to an already deprived town?
I’d say the same about a bunch of Brits being dumped in a hotel in Somalia by the way, it’s nothing to do with demonising these people it’s just facts.
And they’re not all asylum seekers in desperate need I’m not even going there ☠
---

I dont think many people condone this behaviour, where am I/anyone suggesting we do?
But you consistently condone Farage's behaviour and usually go out of your way to minimise the more contentious things that he comes out with. Whether you're aware of it or not, that makes you part of the problem.

The problem is that a lot of the media will only report the most egregious cases they can find of people not being deported, while at the same time ignoring any actual increase in deportations or decrease in the use of hotels. And when those things do get reported once in a blue moon the Reform supporters just say it's lies or that it's not enough.
But this assumes, or implies, that people don’t have actual experiences of mass immigration in their local area. It completely denies the reality that some people are actually living. Not understanding this is where both the mainstream parties have gone badly wrong. I think they are very slowly getting the message but there’s still such an ideological bias - particularly on the left - that “concern about too much immigration = racism”.

Your argument is, “all these people who vote for Reform are too stupid to understand that they’re just being misled by the media”. It’s a deeply patronising argument that has been employed for years now against Brexit voters, Trump voters and now Reform voters, and it doesn’t work any more.

A better approach (IMO) is to put aside one’s own assumptions and get genuinely curious about why large numbers of people - many of whom who previously voted both Tory and Labour - are turning to Reform as an alternative in droves. Have all these people all suddenly become right-wing extremists?

Bin bag full of custard 😂😂😂 brilliant! Im getting a few light hearted lols off this thread
It’s just the perfect description and it comes from the fragrant and stylish Jennifer Arcuri. And she would know.

“He rolled onto me like a bin bag full of custard, gasping like an asthmatic octogenarian, as he reached his climax & I wondered if he’d got it in yet.”

I didn’t even know about this so looked it up- I just think the way it gets reported is always so twisted.
Nigel seems to have said he is part of the same phenomenon as Andrew Tate in regards to him being an important voice for the emasculated. Not anything to do with the unrelated statement that he condones violence against women who don’t obey men.

It’s questionable I agree- I don’t think he should be aligning himself with AT. That’s stupid. He may not know all the details about him- he’s quite a Gen Z thing? He may just have seen his promotional videos
I listened to the LBC interview he gave around the time of the Andrew Tate comments and his words (from his mouth, not how it was reported, I heard the whole thing on my way to work) followed the sentiment. 'Men should be men'. I don't think that needs elaborating on, to be honest.

God, all these muppets who are now stating they just wanted their voices to be heard, we just had a general election ffs.

Nigel Farage is a suppurating sore on the arse end of politics, a Putin whore and an actual threat to democracy. I mean, he’s always been right wing, I have no problem with that, but he will literally do and say anything for money and I for one am so happy to see him in his videos trying to distance himself from little man Tommy and Tate clearly shaking like a shitting dog.

I’m not a fan to be honest. Al least he’s never going to get that knighthood he would so clearly cream himself over.

Love you @soph30 but I will never agree with you on Farage. He has lit the flames for years and now the knuckle draggers he appeals to are creating civil unrest he's pretending he's one of the good guys. Fuck off, Nige.

Matt hates Nigel.. but seriously there are load of examples. He’s absolutely obsessed with these boats in the channel when IMO there are more important things to worry about than desperate people trying to flee persecution
Yeah but how many of these boats are coming?! If it was like four boats a year then yeah there’s bigger issues, but they’re apparently coming DAILY (happy to be corrected). What other country has boatloads of daily migrants?

Also a load are from France

I was trying to be balanced, I’m dubious too bit having had a leaflet from them through the letterbox today, they sound on the surface to have some reasonable aims. Dig a bit deeper and you can see they have no clue how to achieve anything positive and there’s a fair bit of othering in there too, blaming others (by which I mean people who have come from other countries) for all the ills of this country.
I like this comment, it’s fair and balanced.

However I think mass immigration has had an influence on some of the ills of this country. Not immigration or a few people coming, which is great, but MASS immigration. It’s obvious many feel the same way, hence the campaign

All resources are stretched - not just the NHS. The housing problem hais now gone way beyond manageable.
The conditions people are living in / multiple occupancy is grim.

Most of know that we can’t say we will build more houses / schools / hospitals and create all the facilities that are needed to meet the needs of comfortable (or even acceptable) living. Other countries are having the same problem and they are scratching their heads / looking at what neighbouring countries are doing to try to get uncontrolled immigration under control. The UK has a particular problem as we are a small area but so many people are coming here / want to come here. It would be great if we could manage this but we cannot - it has nothing to do with intolerance, quite the opposite.

It was quite obvious that one of the Marxists from other threads had doctored the other one 🤦‍♀️
Now I'm here I'll share this thought.
There is no way the far left activist civil servants would work for the state if reform were to win the next election. That's a big issue that they need to think about.

Yeah but again the hyperbole, just make your point without comparing him to murderers and paedophiles
Have some boo boo in blue
I wasn't directly comparing him to murderers and paedophiles though, merely pointing out how some people react to dodgy characters by finding every excuse under the sun for the stuff they actually do & say.

Maybe you could try responding to some of the more substantive points I made instead of posting fangurl/boi memes?

Do you agree with his stated aim to replace the NHS with a US-style healthcare system?

What are your thoughts on the sketchy parties he's affiliated with who help to fund him?

Alternatively you could just carry on kissing his saggy arse because he's FUN and surely that's the most important quality in any politician? 🤪

He’s only proposing another solution for the NHS as it’s not working well any more, 90% of the reason being that the population has more than doubled and 10% because of bad management. I don’t think he WANTS to privatise. What solution has anyone else offered?
Sketchy parties I’ll have to research when I have time later today, but ALL politicians are sleazy and get dodgy handouts/associates. Name me one squeaky clean politician :)

I think they’ve run out of arguments if they’re editing and lying now 😹 🇬🇧
I did fall for it though

Reform actually were second choice/not far off in a lot of seats, almost always to Labour interestingly! A lot of conservative seats were lost to Labour, and a lot of Labour were nearly Reform
