An American friend of ours was doing her babys bedroom up . She named her kid Keayvaa . People asked her how to pronounce it and her response was it's Irish but the spelling is American . Her kids name was meant to be Caoimhe .
People told her that Caoimhe is actually pronounced Qweeva and not Key ay vaa

A work colleague’s daughter is called Rosie.
There’s nothing wrong with that name. Except, to me, it’s not a real name. In my head her name should be Rose and her nick name as a child could be Rosie. Then as she ages she can decide whether to stick with Rosie or move to using Rose, which is much more ‘mature’ a name.
I suppose nothing stops her doing this anyway. Still, Rosie is just a bit too twee and cutesy. Suits a little girl but an adult woman on the workplace?

Just give your child an actual name FFS - you can shorten it and given them a nickname at home. (And yes, I'm talking to you, Harry and Meghan.

And what exacerbates this further is the fact I was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. The same town where a certain athlete called Zola Budd was born (she's almost 30 years my senior). Lots of controversy about her becoming a British runner in time for the 1984 Olympics, and then more or less disappeared back into obscurity in South Africa.
Anyway, my parents were suitably impressed and decided to name me "Zola" on my arrival on planet Earth back in 93. And nearly everyone I meet for the first time says the same thing "You're not Zola Budd are you?"
