So, we've had a guy for the last day and a half pressure washing the patio. £200 a day. Day one completes 2/3, but also broke my fountain (£80 from amazon, have ordered a new one). We agree to knock the £80 off day one rate, so we're at £120. Day two, he does max 2.5 hours - half a day if you're feeling generous. Job completed, looks much better.
He then asked for £300 (??) so I said, but hang on, knocking off the £80 for the fountain, and bearing in mind today wasn't half a day... and somehow I've agreed to pay £250 which is of course my fault.
But - and here's the rant - he said "oh my usual day rate is £250 but you and your neighbour are my girlies round here so it's a special £200 for you two". duck OFF I'm not your bleeping GIRLIE mate, I'm your paying customer. Oh, and you had to get Mr J to jumpstart your car when you left both days, so that would be at least £200 for the AA call outs. Too bloody familiar!!!
(and yes I am the same pearl clutcher who once dropped a window cleaner for singing a faintly smutty rhyme to my then 7 year old daughter).
Honestly, turn up, be on time, be polite and you can have as much tea/coffee/biscuits as you want and even use the loo but don't piss about with me!!!

I didnt though I just caved in on the £250! told my neighbour about the girlie comment, she just said 'oh he's old school'. Old school my bleeping a, his older brother was in class with one of our best friends who is 10 years younger than us, so he's in his early 50s at the very oldest. Even more reason to keep it a surprise and then upset him on his birthday then, you've got to parent the autism right out of them at a young age by being strict, not letting them have screen time and definitely no UPFs. The autism (if it's the real type and not the type the parents have made up for attention or because they're lazy) should be cured in 6 months.
That's in addition to smacking him and locking him in his bedroom. I read it on Mumsnet. That's how you manage a neurodiverse child. To be fair to MNHQ, they did delete those posts advocating giving the child a good slap on that thread where the mum was struggling to cope with her possibly autistic daughter. They love screaming at, and smacking, their children. There's often posts where the mum says she snapped and lost her temper and smacked, pushed, pulled, told them she hates them or screamed at her child and she's told she's a great mum doing her best, everyone gets pushed to that sometimes and the child will be fine and forget about it. So, yeah, they would love to advise smacking an autistic child to make them behave.
It should be illegal to smack your child everywhere IMO but in lots of places, including England, it's apparently fine! Can I smack my husband/the Tesco cashier/my employees/the neighbour etc because they're not doing what I want them to or have upset me? No, but I could smack my child.
I also don't think it actually works to smack a child into behaving, and I think it teaches the child some awful things eg violence will get you what you want or if someone doesn't like your behaviour they can be violent to you.
My mum used to smack me and it just made me lose all respect for her.

I'm ashamed to say I did occasionally smack my oldest and I regret it every single minute. She would have pushed a saint to do it, and I am not one, but I still shouldn't have. I was smacked growing up as well, and my mother once told me my father would hit her. So I guess it's all there... it's horrible. (Oldest would still drive a saint mad, but we have a very good relationship and have had for many years now)
Smacking, hitting, slapping, or shaking a child is completely illegal in Wales. The Welsh government completely outlawed the physical punishment of children by removing the "reasonable punishment" legal defense in 2022.
This is exactly what I've always thought. Why is it legal to smack a child, whose brain isn't developed but illegal to smack an adult? The damage it does, hitting children. How do you teach them right from wrong, when you're doing something wrong to them.

look at the feral little people on the streets these days, terrorising people, stealing, shoplifting, hurling abuse at people…not to mention the killing that you read about every single day in the papers…you can tell who was never disciplined as a child.

There are many ‘actual punishment’ that don’t involve smacking. As I said, the only thing that came from my mum smacking me was that I lost every ounce of respect for her. It just meant she’d lost control. I wasn’t even badly behaved, but I’d have responded far better to the loss of privileges, for example, than a slap round the face.Some kids need it

There's a site called replacing pieces or something which helps track down replacements for plates etc.
