The benefits bashing poster is now claiming to be an ex alcoholic and someone living with severe anxiety and depression - why do I think she's just saying this stuff to make her sound less of a bleep to her ex-friend the addict with cognitive issues? Also, doesn't someone who is no longer an alcoholic refer to themselves as in recovery rather than an ex-alcoholic?

It's very sad, if in fact this is true, that she can't show any kind of compassion then isn't it? I'm an ex alcoholic too, and to be honest I don't use 'in recovery' but I know a lot of people do.
She's just not a nice person. Imagine having to be in hospital, ill, with someone like her looking after you!
'Can I see your bank statements please? I may not want to treat you if you're on <shudder> free money!'

Yesterday was a post about someone not wanting to do anything for her kids 21st and today the same but her kids graduation. Who cares if it's a 'thing' why not celebrate your child's milestones and achievements if that's what they want.
But presumably the child is an adult and adults who expect to have their achievements celebrated are needy and she should go NC immediately.

I found an escaped mumsnetter on Reddit. There's a sub where people share a photo of their shopping and say how much/where/for how long/for how many.

One poster shared a £40 Lidl shop to last two people 14 days...

Someone questioned why there is only one potato and the poster replied -

half got chopped into cubes veg for katsu the other half will be chopped into wedges/fries for on the side of a meal

So one potato for 2 meals for 2 people...

I don't think it's expected, I think it varies what people do I know some people who have done a meal, a party, a car, some who didn't want a fuss or to be the centre of attention, or go out/away with friends, all different things but if her daughter has said she'd like flowers I don't know why she doesn't just buy her them. They'd be a nice present for her daughter before she gives her the eviction notice if nothing else 😂

Mine doesn’t like birthday surprises. He’s autistic. Has anyone suggested that yet? They love to diagnose over the internet

I'm going to come over all MN now and have a tradie rant (it's allowed, Mr J is a tradie)

So, we've had a guy for the last day and a half pressure washing the patio. £200 a day. Day one completes 2/3, but also broke my fountain (£80 from amazon, have ordered a new one). We agree to knock the £80 off day one rate, so we're at £120. Day two, he does max 2.5 hours - half a day if you're feeling generous. Job completed, looks much better.

He then asked for £300 (??) so I said, but hang on, knocking off the £80 for the fountain, and bearing in mind today wasn't half a day... and somehow I've agreed to pay £250 which is of course my fault.

But - and here's the rant - he said "oh my usual day rate is £250 but you and your neighbour are my girlies round here so it's a special £200 for you two". duck OFF I'm not your bleeping GIRLIE mate, I'm your paying customer. Oh, and you had to get Mr J to jumpstart your car when you left both days, so that would be at least £200 for the AA call outs. Too bloody familiar!!!

(and yes I am the same pearl clutcher who once dropped a window cleaner for singing a faintly smutty rhyme to my then 7 year old daughter).

Honestly, turn up, be on time, be polite and you can have as much tea/coffee/biscuits as you want and even use the loo but don't piss about with me!!!

And breathe... :D

Surely this one will make MN? I can't wait to see them tripping over themselves to tell everyone how their 21 year old DD earns £3million an hour and could afford takeaways but she works out 29 hours a day, eats only non-UPFS and wouldn't have a takeaway because they make you obese.

Already there. Used as a justification for why they can't all have half a million stashed away in a forgotten bank account.

She could even write on the gift tag 'congratulations on graduating, now duck off forever, love mum xxx' :D
