I was thinking about this today. Tattle has a horrible reputation, and I don't really understand why. The basic premise is to gossip and say what we think about people in the public eye in any way shape or form - we don't have to like them, and I suppose sometimes it can be quite cruel, but it's usually meant with a joke or at least a certain point at the heart. So, public targets, in the public eye whether they like it or not.

I've never seen anyone be gratuitously rude or say something hurtful to another poster here. Yes of course there's the odd spat, but it's always resolved by agreeing to differ and then moving on.

Whereas on that other site... its like its a game to be as horrible as you like to another poster to gain brownie points or something. I dont get it - if you think someone's a twat why engage with them?
I agree. I can’t say for eg X is lying, what they’re showing is a prerecord and they should have to mark it as an ad as well - where the person in question will never see it unless they go looking on a gossip site for gossip about themselves. However I could go on mumsnet and say ‘wow, you sound like a narcissist and an awful parent who is damaging their child, I hope when they grow up they never speak to you again and move far away from you. Fingers crossed someone close to you calls social services because of the damage you’re causing your poor child’ because they’re giving their kid a chocolate biscuit and it’s their packed lunch and have complained to the school when they took it off of him. Or I can go on style and beauty and tell someone they look like a fat old hag and should wear the next size up, get highlights and moisturise. I can tell someone they’re being over dramatic and a bitch because they’ve asked their husband not to go on a three week holiday leaving during her giving birth. I can say all kinds of things to people but I’m not allowed to say Amanda Holdens new lips are too big where she’ll never see it 😂

Today some lunatic wants to get just 1 insurance policy for identical twins, on a car they are taking to Uni to share and if anything happened they would claim to be the named one on the policy.
It has been pointed out to them that the driver could be killed and the other one would have to be the non named person for the rest of their life whether they were or not.
What is wrong with some people.

The thing about mumsnet is that they think all men are bastards and all women saints. There is no middle ground, when the truth is that no one is perfect and life and relationships are complex.

Has anyone read the post about the herbs and spices. It's a weird one and I didnt realise how strong feelings were towards herbs and spices.

Apparently if you dont use them in all meals, you are eating like a pauper 😂 someone does a 30 mile round trip to get their herbs and spices and cannot believe people dont have access to herbs
My favourite was the person who suggested that if someone had 10 pounds a week for food and found a pound on the floor, they could buy spices with it!

I know this might piss people off, so please feel free to abuse me... but I sailed through the menopause, not a symptom in sight whether peri or real (or whatever the word is). I'm so sorry for those having a hard time, but it's not something that reduces all women to snivelling hormonal wrecks. Sorry. Really sorry. But there is also hope!
I used to be the same with periods. Had zero emotional affect on me, no pain etc and were just really inconvenient. Used to hate the stereotype that we were all lying in bed weeping into a box of chocolates.

There's a batshit thread in relationships at the moment..
Ops husband has told her he's on a golfing holiday to Portugal and when she has tracked him on find my iPhone its showing he is in Spain.
Everyone has immediately jumped to he's cheating, change the locks, ltb, hire a private investigator, demand the hands over his phone when he gets home.
God forbid she actually speaks to her husband and asks him.

In reality I know very few mums who still rear face their kids past the age of 2, yet EVERYONE on Mumsnet seems to until the age of 4
Yes I know it's much safer, I don't need lecturing on it.

I am bored in work so had a look at the shower thread. So anyone who spends more 4 minutes in there is wanking and also destroying the planet.
Or you know they might like being clean.

There is a thread about kids snacks again..

I swear the people on that topic are absolutely batshit crazy.

You have the usual ‘they don’t need snacks’ ‘too much sugar’ ‘Too much sugar in fruit, where is the veg’ blah blah my child survives on air and water in between meals 🙄

Mumsnet is hardly an amorphous mass. Do you identify with all Tattlers and believe you all have exactly the same beliefs and tastes? I've been on Mumsnet for years and like it. It all depends which threads you go on. The Harry & Meghan ones are pretty nasty on here so I avoid them.
This sounds very mumsnet

There’s a post atm from a woman who has bought a “vehicle” for her “hobby” and is annoyed people have asked her how much the vehicle cost. Why can’t anyone on Mumsnet ever reveal their hobby?! As if posting “I recently bought a mountain bike because I’m a keen cyclist” is going to make you instantly recognisable to your inevitably awful SIL or MIL who will definitely be reading your post. Why are they all so weird.

I think the eating threads is a bit like the money threads, people projecting their wishes.

Anytime someone says they have a lettuce for lunch i just imagine a reallyyyyy fat person who probably eats everything in sight and they are just projecting their own wishes on how they would be eating.

I don’t think that thread is real, tbh. There’s a regular troll (or several) who posts threads about doing something kind and wonderful for someone and suffering terribly as a result. The threads always include the recipient of the kind gesture being entitled/rude and shouting at or reprimanding the OP and demanding they do more for them.

I read the start of that thread and found it hilarious; those carrots that the op is so worried about will be sat in a communal bowl with all the other fruit and veg that gets sneezed on, coughed on, touched, licked and even bitten in to before being rejected and put back in ready for the op’s child to choose! I work in a school and would love to give them the low down of how gross kids are, the unpeeled carrots should be the least of their worries 🤣
I used to pick carrots from the garden and only give them a rough wash under the tap before eating them raw. My mum worked on the same principle of common sense as her own mother - "got to eat a peck of dirt before you die". She used to live in Iran in the 1950s and noted that the European children ate local food with normal precautions such as washing food and hands and were fine, whereas the US children who had everything doused in disinfectant or flown in from the USA were always ill, having no resistance to bugs. Mumsnet would have hysterics.

I bet the ones who accuse mothers of killing the planet have had children themselves, used plastic, used disposable nappies, had a wardrobe full of designer clothes and flew from a young age and now they're at the stage of life where they just want to stay at home and live a simple/miserable life they think others should too and lecture others about how they should be doing their utmost to save the planet.

There’s a thread at the moment where OP can’t understand why somebody from a disadvantaged background may have less aspirations than those who aren’t. OP even admits she’s from a poor background herself (maybe the gardener only came once a week or something? 🙄) but still can’t see it?!

I despair of that place but I just can’t help going back to read the utter shit they post.
