The roasting any poster gets if they admit they’re disappointed that their child’s grandparents don’t want to be actively involved or help out. For virtually everyone I know, the kids grandparents are chomping at the bit to help out. And we all know they will get too many sweets and screen time at granny’s, but we’re just grateful for the help.

The expectation that at 18yo, you turf the child out onto the street unless they pay rent. Again it would be completely normal here for adult children to stay in the family home until their late 20s and most don’t pay rent to their parents as they are saving for house deposits. Shock horror I actually know people who have extended their houses when their kids were teens as they knew the kids would be there for another 10+ yrs and they wanted to give the kids more space.

The dislike for their MIL and other in laws, but yet all seem to have these big family Xmas gathering where there is 4 courses, 10 different dishes and “picky” bits.

but then, you get this sort of stuff:
The implication that by sending your child to state school you are effectively setting them up for a life of crime And the unchecked privilege of saying something like - “you could afford to send your kids to private if you made sacrifices like we do”. Ffs , there’s not many “sacrifices” available to me that would magic up 10k+ a year! Maybe selling a kidney?

or the kids have to be grade 10 in piano or on some national development squad in a sport to bother with it. Again most parents I know just want their kids to get regular exercise and find interests outside of screen time.
Anyways that’s my mumsnet rant!

I just read this thread and I have been in hysterics. What a set of Fanny's. I sometimes read MN for a laugh. It's mental. The whole class thing on there is mind boggling!
I am northern, pit village working class. NO uni degree. Full time job. I love Champagne and expensive chocolates but I also drink pints in the local Club and smash kebabs in my face after. So I take it I am a lower class with a touch of upper class?

well OP my dd are at GRAMMAR school and get approximately five hours a night which they squeeze in between county level sports practice. To be honest I am getting fed up with the multitude of requests for them to model too as although they are vair beautiful, clever, popular and witty, they don’t have time.

There’s a thread on there at the moment from a woman who is convinced the government are tampering with PCR tests because she’s feels very unwell and refuses to believe her PCR really was negative! All comments pointing out that this is highly unlikely and she more than likely has the flu rather than covid are being ignored because she lives in London (what that has to do with I don’t know!?!)and and also refuses to believe flu can make you feel that unwell (which proves she’s probably never had proper flu before because Ive never been as ill in my life as when I had the flu and was physically unable to get out of bed for a week, but anyway I digress).

The determined under eating is so sad. In my mind's eye, I see all these women as not slim or slender, but painfully bone-thin. It's no wonder they're so fucking uptight and angry about everything, it's because they've been ravenous since 1997.

I just love how they will always try to outdo each other in every way.

For example someone will ask about how much toilet roll they use in a day. Then will say they use around 2 as they have kids and a husband.

One user will reply with they only use 1 roll a week and only need 1 square per person a day, and if you use anymore than that you’re using too much, you will destroy the toilet and just throwing money down the toilet.

Then another will chip in and say they use 12 a day because their family wipe their arse every 5 minutes to ensure their hole is sparkling clean.

MN makes it painfully clear how many (middle class, educated) women have eating disorders. They’re all either orthorexic or barely eat at all. Egging each other on by talking about the tiny portions they serve themselves. Stuffed after eating a “big salad”. All the gasps of horror when posters dare to discuss having double carbs on their plate.

I had (note past tense) a friend like this. I met her for lunch one day and ordered lasagne and chips. She gave a big gasp when It arrived and loudly declared to the entire restaurant "I can't believe you're having DOUBLE CARBS!".
Thirty seconds later, the waiter appeared with some garlic bread which apparently also came with the lasagne

The ironic thing is she was about twice my size, yet to listen to her she apparently ate nothing but salad and steamed veg and fish.
