There’s currently a thread running on there about M&S Cafe now serving a macaroni cheese toastie with a side of chips and how disgustingly unhealthy this is because its ‘carbs, carbs and more carbs’, they then go onto say it’s no wonder there’s an obesity crisis, like people don’t have free will and shouldn’t be allowed an unhealthy treat once in a while. Whoever said on the previous thread that MN is effectively a pro Anna site isn’t far wrong.
Why is there no M&S in my country? 😭😭😭

Seriously? They remind me of those mothers who force an eating disorder on their child. When I used to use tumblr it was not rare for a teenager to write how their mam doesn’t allow foods over so many kcal in the house, them being called “a whale” “a pig” “large witch” all because they had eaten more than a small bowl of soup that day. Kids hiding food under their bed so their mother doesn’t find out they’ve been eating more than 500kcal that day. One kid even had a safe that she hid pot noodles and would hide the empty wrappers and packets in her school bag so she could dispose of it in the school bins.

it’s disgusting that the competitive under eaters do be going out of their way to trump each other, it’s not a competition, it’s disordered eating. Go to therapy and realise why you’re behaving such a way with food rather than finding a bunch of other mentally unwell people like you who enable your disordered eating.

One of the threads that made me chuckle was when a woman said was it bad to pretend her child was under 2 or 3 to get into a theme park for free? I thought everyone did it but not on MN obviously, queue 1000 holier than thou Mumsnetters saying how dishonest it is and the businesses could go under. 🙄🙄

I remember the garlic bread thread. So many saying they'd share one baguette between a family of 4 or 5. As far as I'm concerned it's one each or nothing

Random sample of mumsnetters talking about how many people one standard sized garlic baguette would serve

Haha, I can eat one to myself with pizza and pasta. They would be gone red in the face with such bad dietary decisions.

You also forget that mumsnetters can make a months worth of dinners and lunches from one chicken.

Two glasses of wine and you are alcohol dependent too. Joyless arses.

There’s now a thread from a woman saying that her baby can read because she giggles and points at words 😂

I hate these joy thieves. They're unbearable.

The kind of women who have imposed so many restrictions on what they eat and drink and who they duck and how and when and what they do and how they dress that they really, really resent those of us who don't give a duck.

I just had a share bag of cheese and onion crisps and half a bottle of red for my tea and about to wash it down with some apple crumble and probably the rest of the bottle. duck them and their lives devoid of pleasure 😂.

Anyone seen the thread about a woman who (allegedly...) stayed at a haunted castle but spent spent her whole night telling people not to believe in haunted things and how silly they were? 😁

Only half?

Eating is a weird one for me. I don't get pleasure from stuffing my face. I do from looking in the mirror and liking what I see. And people who pig out on bad food and then moan they're large and can't lose weight do get on my nerves a bit. But if you wanna eat whatever and be happy with it then good for you.

And tbh hearing people hear call women who don't eat loads joyless, to me feels as bad as the competitive under eaters on MN. We're all different and some of us care more about being thin than food. A lot of us don't actually like all the bad stuff either.

Fyi I don't serve or eat garlic bread, it's not worth the calories.

Just a polite request please that if people want to discuss calories or restriction (as is your right!) that we could make use of content warnings or spoilers to keep it a safe and inclusive place for people struggling with or in recovery from EDs? Or tbh just anyone who may find it triggering. Thanks x

mod edit;
All members, for the safety of all, Please keep on topic as much as possible and refrain from discussing posting triggering messages /topics on this thread. There are many other threads that cover daily intake/diets and the likes.
thanks ☺

Don’t want to appear joyless myself but please don’t twist what I said.

I imagine a lot of it is connected to mental health.

calling eating ‘pigging out’ is probably related.

Sorry I just think it's a bit pot kettle to moan about someone eating less by saying you should eat more. Neither is something to encourage or brag about.

We're all different, how much you eat isn't a mark of how fun or great a person you are.

The women on Mumsnet are judgemental and competetive with it though. Nobody would give a duck if they weren't going, "Oh, I couldn't possibly eat 1200 calories a day!" implying that others have no self restraint, when that's literally what you'd feed a toddler. I'm not saying people who don't eat because they're not hungry are joyless.

The whole world is judgemental of large people. People can like what they like, but I think competitive self-deprivation and one-upmanship when life is so short is the very definition of joyless.

Who are you talking to? I have no idea. You quoted part of my post and twisted it when I mentioned nothing about eating.
Actually don’t worry.
