That was my thread! 😂

I was 9 months pregnant and very unwell at the time, on medication that gave me a horrendous stomach. My other half went to pick up his kids from school and bring them here for tea - he didn't bother to take his keys despite knowing I ALWAYS lock the door regardless of what I'm doing or where I am in the flat because I'm in S.E London in a bad area and have been burgled during the day before. Anyway he was gone an hour and they just so happened to arrive back when I was on the toilet. I couldn't exactly leave the bathroom given the urgency of why I was in there so he had to wait 10 mins with his kids until I was out of the loo.

I got absolutely slaughtered on there by people telling me I needed to change my attitude toward my step children and that I was ridiculous for locking my door.
Surely the majority of houses have doors that at least single lock behind you now anyway so everyone should be taking their keys out?! I haven’t had a door you could leave unlocked* since I lived in a shithole second year uni rental that hadn’t been touched since the 70s!

*unless you put it on latch and at that point it’s basically just left open?

I don’t believe any of the threads now, the latest one where the daughter is in hospital, sorry but who in that position would have their first thought be ‘let me post about this on a forum’ 🙄
Yep, that’s this week’s attempt at an epic 3-thread saga.

Thats such a boring reply.

you see it all the time when someone posts about people’s opinion, they think they are so clever when they literally use the same sentence as everyone else.

maybe the op doesn’t want to share their opinion straight away set the tone of the thread with their opinion.

There’s one on there now asking AIBU to book another holiday after our other disappointing holiday. Mentioning countries they might go to because the previous one was just soo stressful… more like “look at me I can afford two holidays in the height of a pandemic” 🙄
But then she says the struggle to pay for holidays.

Today the huns are having a competition on who is worse off after the budget. I absolutely get that people are struggling financially, it’s not unique to mumsnet. But jeez why the constant race to the bottom and calling out of people that are slightly better off than themselves. The attitude of some of the posters sucks.

There’s one where the in laws are charging to go for Christmas despite having £100,000 plus wage.
With “charging” - surely they’re just asking for that family’s share of the total bill which is going to be in the hundreds? It’s not as if they’re selling tickets via ticket master?

Surely offering to pay your share of a huge meal/several day affair is a completely normal thing to do? Or if the hosting family refuse money you buy them something they’d like roughly of the same value?

Sorry offtopic, but kinda on topic with UC

I'm glad the UC stories are exposing that it's only people with children that can work 2 hours to earn an extra £20 and that childless claimants need to work 6 hours to get £20 extra
I’ve been lurking on this thread but keeping my head down (due to being burned on mumsnet over this subject in the past!).
I’ve just worked it out and I would have to work 4 extra hours to get an extra £20 (more like £21.60) per week. I have 2 children.

Aahh, the famous "penis beaker"

Honestly, people are bonkers that post on aibu

That one was hilarious. She genuinely cant comprehend that people get up before that time.

Husband gets up at 745 to start work at 9, child 1 gets up at 745 to leave for school at 840 and child 2 gets up for school run at 820. She didn't say why time she gets up but was utterly shocked that people had a moan at her for driving 5 minutes to school and then spend 15 minutes looking for a parking space rather than a 20 minute walk each way
I am off the train by 7.00 and if my train hasn’t been late I am on the bus

I think any threads that talk about tattle get deleted.

The last one I read was dripping with superiority and calling tattlers idiots as they themselves knew Instagram was full of undisclosed adverts and it was so obvious for anyone with a brain 🙄. As if all tattle boils down to "omg I can't believe someone is posting an ad"
I don’t even do Instagram, tiktok, Snapchat, faceache etc

I remember when she got banned and there were multiple threads asking why. I think Mumsnet did one giving reasons why they had banned her but she was reinstated.

This is what’s confused me, I’ve not been but local NCT mums go on and on and then you see the Insta posts and it’s a child on a small wooden play frame 🥴 like I’d be up for going as it’ll be cheaper and so much easier than European holidays but it just looks so shit?
I think if you’re considering Centreparcs, it’s actually cheaper to go to a CP abroad. The prices here absolutely rocket in school holidays, but if you go to one of the European ones that have different school holidays, it’s a lot less. Apparently somewhere like Belgium? I haven’t looked into this too deeply though, because as I said, I can’t see the appeal personally 😆

I was just thinking about the nutters over there when I used a rotisserie chicken in a curry. They would get through to New Years with it where as I ate some and put the rest in my curry. Didnt even make 70 gallons of soup with the bones.

I agree with this, but can any of us ever truly know our partners or predict that they’ll turn abusive? There are women who’ve been happily and safely married decades that suddenly find themselves victims of domestic abuse because xyz has changed and partner is now a very different person, it feels like criticism more easily thrown at women who aren’t married as part of the whole anti single mum schtick. Not saying you’re doing that here but it’s not just strangers who can turn around and do horrible things.
that’s why I’d put ‘know’ in inverted commas!
but taking the time to get to ‘know’ someone before moving in together is different than moving in with someone in haste (see pp comment about her lesbian friend). There’s no rush hey!
