I am claiming that I have misophonia too. Noisy eaters give me the rage. I have to move.

My brother has it and he has to turn over TV channels if someone is eating loudly. Whenever I eat at his, he insists on having the TV on to block out the noise. He describes it as sounds hurting him.

Saw a typical mumsnet thread. Poster was saving 1k a month, spent £500 for car insurance and other bits and bobs and had £300 spare and was " just interested in what other people had to spend as it doesn't seem like enough ".

Another thinking about leaving her 15 year old at home, instead of automatically thinking of fast tracking his passport which had less than 6 months.

Did anyone see the one about the breakfast grazing table? Dish of butter, toast rack, bottled milk, cereal in jars because they were brought up to NEVER have boxes of cereal on the table. Apparently this is to make breakfast time easier but sounds like more tidying up to me

My oldest cat (rescue) only has 3 teeth left... he has tins of something for old cats. Do I win for tins being recyclable? or should I let him starve on kibble? which he does eat but not in enough quantity to keep his weight up.

I’ve noticed a lot of eco posts on there recently - landfill and tat seem to be buzz words but they mainly use the environment to take swipes at other people’s lifestyles.

Yesss!! It’s the same disease as on on Insta with influencers only engaging with “sustainability” if it’s a £400 floor length dress to shell to their minions, normal people have been making reasonably priced clothes last for years, for years!

I love the ones who complain eg people driving to school and causing parking problems and they only live five minutes away and could easily walk, there’s always one who comes on to say ‘well excuse mefor driving to school and annoying you, but I have no legs, what do yiu suggest I do?’ Now obviously, that’s entirely different, but they do it every time, does it really need pointed out that they don’t mean them?

The professionally offended are the main base of mumsnet subscribers. I swear they have their own buzzwords set up ready to pounce!

I remember reading a thread about a misbehaving child in a charity shop who got told off by a volunteer on there and the amount of posters who said the assistant shouldn’t have done that, she wasn’t a paid staff member and just a lowly volunteer.

It made me to be honest. People look down at volunteers as if they’re on the end of someone’s shoe.

The huns on there are arseholes, I like to think most people are not like ‘them’

HarryToby - you’ve just reminded me of the one time I was foolish enough to start an advice thread!

I remember posting about some concerns I had about my 6yo being unable to entertain herself at home. I was really perplexed by this, because no child I’d ever encountered before was so resistant to sitting down with a toy or a puzzle or some colouring pencils and just getting on with it. I wondered if anyone else had a child like this and what did they do about it?

Someone piped up: did I take her to the park often?

To this day I do not know why that question was relevant to my dilemma.

I replied no, not really. My then-toddler was a total disaster in parks and had to be closely followed to make sure he didn’t seriously injure himself falling off a slide/walking in front of swings etc. Which meant that my older child got neglected and would stand there screaming at me to push her on the swings when I physically couldn’t. I said I found it FAR too stressful and basically couldn’t supervise two kids at the park by myself.

I got slaughtered. A massive pile on started. Post after post berating me for not taking my kids to the park. What was wrong with me, making excuses like that? Did I need help with my anxiety issues or something? It’s no wonder my child couldn’t sit down and amuse herself with toys or crafts if I didn’t take her to play outside!

I was made to feel like the shittiest parent on the planet. They spotted a chink in my armour and just attacked. I changed my username and never went back to the thread. To this day I don’t even understand how taking my kids to the park was supposed to be the answer to all my problems.

And guess what? Both of my kids were diagnosed with autism several years later. The toddler with no sense of danger? Autistic. The 6yo who couldn’t play by herself? Autistic. I wasn’t a shit parent. It wasn’t my fault.

Ooh this is such a helpful post. Sorry you had to go through that on MN. But your post has really correlated with some thing I’ve been thinking about my son. Very familiar issues. Thank you!

There’s currently a thread running on there about M&S Cafe now serving a macaroni cheese toastie with a side of chips and how disgustingly unhealthy this is because its ‘carbs, carbs and more carbs’, they then go onto say it’s no wonder there’s an obesity crisis, like people don’t have free will and shouldn’t be allowed an unhealthy treat once in a while. Whoever said on the previous thread that MN is effectively a pro Anna site isn’t far wrong.

There was thread the other day about someone who’d employed a plumber and he texted and asked her out. Got loads of replies saying it was unprofessional, creepy, misogynistic, report him! etc. (I was on the fence a bit, tbh, because I do think it’s a bit unprofessional).

However. Not so long ago, there was thread where a woman was asking if it was ok to ask out the guy who’d been and fitted her boiler and there were literally pages and pages of replies egging her on and telling her to go for it, this is the 21st Century!, please update OP!

In the end, he ignored her message but somehow it’s ok for women to do that but not men.

I don’t know if it’s down to misandry or their absolute loathing of ‘tradesmen’. I bet if their divorce solicitor was asking them on a date after an appointment, that would be perfectly ok.

I read both threads. With the first I think I would have been flattered and if he was at all good looking I would probably have had a go Might have got a discount too.

Just googled toast. I'm not sure what the fuss is about. they just look like any other generic jumper that you can buy from Tesco or next. I'm sure it's nice wool, but wool only costs so much. For that price I'd want a bit of design flare.

I suspect the flair they're buying is the price tag.

Did any one catch the JL glitch thread this morning - it was in Christmas - so many people might have not seen it but basically there was a glitch with a promo code for YSL on the John Lewis website on Sunday afternoon. Instead of just knocking £20 off YSL perfumes the code was knocking £20 off every item in the basket!

Of course some of them went mad and filled their basket with items around the £20 mark as the error meant those items were free so really taking full advantage and also paid for next day delivery. A support thread was then set up because some felt guilty and others were wondering if they would get their items. One poster screenshotted that she added 70 odd items to her basket worth like £1300 but only paid £161!! Unbelievable.

of course they all turned on each other and questioned the morality of what they had done. Said poster who saved herself like 1200 quid was exposed as a charity CEO from her other posts! Proper LOL. Of course mumsnet have deleted it though, god help an actual debate is allowed to run.

Did the stuff actually arrive? Things like this always happen on mn where they share the glitches/errors but the stuff never arrives!
