On a thread where someone calls Louboutins "common" and brags of having several pairs but now not knowing what to do with them, someone else responded with: "Only on Mumsnet would shoes worth hundreds be seen as common." We do like a bit of self-awareness :)

Apparently the husband was out of work at the time they started claiming but when he found another job, she didn’t inform the tax credits, she just carried on claiming. None of it added up tbh. Posters were saying he should be giving here more than £600 a month as he was a high earner, but why couldn’t she go and get a job?!
This is where I think they use the term high earner / well off very, very generously over there 😳

Are tax credits not only for working families anyway? They’re obsessed with each other’s finances and having numbers to give each other aren’t they, that’s why I think they keep on the antiquated idea of an allowance so they can compare purchasing power parity. Doesn’t rly count if he’s making you use it for domestic bills tho 😳

I love the hysterics of some of them over on the Coronavirus threads. One woman said that she is grieving not being able to travel whenever she likes. They are so fucking out of touch it's nuts. How the fuck would they deal with a real crisis?!
If that’s the only thing they are ‘grieving’ over then they lead a very fucking charmed life!

I like the sound of Crumbs. I have just been on the bedroom thread and someone mentioned fake photos of hotels and how they missed Crumbs! Sounds like she/he have been banned.

Agree - also not saying you have to go with the crowd on everything / would you jump off a cliff if they were, but surely needlessly othering your child from such a young age is going to have emotional effects later on? :/
I don't think mumsnetters care about that, as long as they're accepted by other mumsnetters it's fine

Exactly this! Obviously if a man is genuinely abusive and the woman is in danger then leaving is the sensible option, but like you say it’s not always black and white and when children and joint finances are involved it’s not always that easy.
Totally. I know a couple who went through a real bad patch (she adored him, he was a typical lad went out all weekend left her home with the baby coming home pissed etc). She ended up getting Very close to a man at work. She said it wasn’t physical (an emotional affair) but she was fed up of talking to her husband and not feeling heard or understood. She said man at work supported her in ways her husband wasn’t capable of. Anyway the husband found the texts between them. He was hurt but rather than splitting up it shocked him and he realised that if he didn’t want to be there for her then someone else would. They were both remorseful and went to counselling. They’re still together and seem very happy and definitely had a huge lifestyle change for both of them. I can see in their case multiple “LTB” MN moments.
If they’d not worked through it there’d have been divorce, step families, financial consequences, emotional hurt. They were lucky because both their families and good friends supported them staying together too. If they’d have had “it’s over” drilled in to them both then god knows how it would’ve ended.
I completely believe that anyone should be free to leave a marriage but if both parties want to try and make it work then as friends and family we should really help heal it if it’s safe to do so.

I was called ‘ableist’ for saying that mobility scooters are fucking dangerous when not used properly and that there should be a mandatory test before using them.
That just sounds sensible to me. I think they sometimes go too fast. They have been involved in several accidents and they are on the rise. I have a vague recollection of a film on something like Watchdog or The One Show about them. One person made the point that they are meant to take the place of walking when they are on the pavement, and as these go up to approx 15 miles an hour, or more,, that is not a replication of walking speed. I am amazed there isn’t a test. It is not ableist to point out the dangers of moving vehicles on pavements, be they bikes, electric scooters or mobility scooters.

There is a brief article here - this stood out The use of mobility scooters is only likely to grow as the baby-boomer generation moves into old age and with rising levels of obesity across all generations affecting personal mobility.”

Mumsnet can be a v.strange place.

People on MN never answer their door! You aren’t allowed to visit their new babies, regardless of your relationship to the family, you’ve to wait til the kids about 6 before you can see them, all gifts are tat, everyone is a ‘narc’ and they all suffer from MH issues, mostly anxiety…that just about covers every post on it!

they’re liars and love to make themselves look better than they actually are.
Weird to be basically setting up a half-anorexic accountability discourse around food for themselves tbh. Can’t be healthy at all, though I imagine constantly lying about the state of your family in general can’t be healthy either

Yet they can’t recognise half of the troll threads 😁

“Help, I’m down to my last £10, my twins are 6ft athletes and are wolfing down the contents of the fridge. I’m a size 8 and can manage with dust on a rice cake. My exH is a high earner but pays nothing, he had an affair and the OW has just parked her Mercedes in my drive blocking me in!”
There have been a couple of 'I have cancer, I have to go private because the NHS won't treat me because of Covid/my ex has left because I have cancer and I'm going to have to give up chemo halfway through my treatment because I need to go back to work to feed the children' ones recently. You just know there are people PMing for PayPal details.

The ones who smoked in the B and B sound rough as anything (if it’s actually true of course). She should be furious with her husband for smoking in the first place. The alcohol amounts they had sounds excessive too.

I like the ‘I’m looking for a pair of boots but I only have £350 to spend 🥺’ threads and they get loads of recommendations for the boots that wouldn’t look out of place on my 97 year old nan, but at least they’re LEATHER. ‘I like these, OP’ with a link to some fur lined Hotter boots that look like wellies.
Then someone comes along and says something perfectly acceptable about the cost/style and a big mumsnet pile on happens. I think some of the huns are on there just to be obnoxious.

So I’ve deleted the MN app today after far too many bitchy comments for either expressing an opinion or actually pointing out law 🙄. I’ve been on the Instagrammers type forums for ages, thought I’d look at the chats to see what you’re all like…and this is the first thread I saw. Think I’ve found my people!
It really is great here. We all seem to get along here, even if we disagree. And it is user friendly. MN is stuck in the 80s. Get stuck in.

What's the name of the other brand they all like? Seasalt? They willingly pay £185 a pop to look that frumpy (or at least say they do)

They're obsessed, OBSESSED with 'family money'. The constant parroting of "All money is family money", but that only ever seems to be the case if the woman is a SAHM. If she's working then it's 'her' money because "You've earned it and it's yours".
Exactly, It’s so hypocritical! If SAHM, as you say, they call it family money but if a poster owns her own house or has inheritance or other savings they say hide it! Imagine if it’s the other way round and a DH was squirrelling his money away theyd be bitching and saying get a solicitor. I always think the threads about SAHM are interesting as they descent into a bun fight and no one can be civil.

in other news they appear to have a site issue with their trending box that usually appears on the right. Multiple threads moaning about it and mumsnet admitted their developer (Steven) deployed a change that has messed it up. honestly that site is so amateur! It amazes me people pay money as premium members. absolute mugs!

On a thread about 400/500 quid jumpers, someone said they would spend more than 30 quid on a jumper and someone said...

...

...

I don't know where I'd go to get a jumper under £30.

😆
I was coming on to mention that thread. I can’t believe there are so many people wandering about who spend so much on a single jumper. Someone else said they wouldn’t get good enough cashmere for that amount and to spend more!

And what’s with the mention of Brora all over the S&B boards at the moment? I had a look at their website and it’s like fashion for the over 90’s. Someone started a thread about buying a skirt off there and I was expecting them to get a flaming but everyone rushed on to tell her how lovely it was. It looked like something you’d find on a decrepit 102 yr old in a nursing home. All it needed to complete the look was a pair of flesh coloured velcro slippers.

One thing it does highlight us the appealing lack of due diligence by brands and their agencies if they honestly think mumsnet's made up caricatures of women are genuine people/potential consumers 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I accidentally hit the laugh reaction on your post, quickly changed it though. Yes it really is awful to other them. And to what end?
I once laugh reacted accidentally on fb trying to heart it, to a friend telling the world she had body dysmorphia. She never accepted it was an accident. 🤣

I think MN users are big on competition, be it wealth or misery Olympics, I wonder if the majority are just bored people seeking attention, because wouldn't you have a word with a friend not giving their kid any of their own cake? It's indefensible to do that. Bastards 🙄
