Heya - I mentioned tax credits so just want to clarify it was by no means a judgment on “better” or “not better” jobs, it was a comment on that particular user saying her husband was a high earner which I’m sure you’d agree is contradicted by her reference to tax credits.

Firstly the value of a job is rarely captured in its salary, eg look at the key worker debate of the pandemic - all of those roles are underpaid if not low paid work yet absolutely essential for our survival/society as you’ve pointed out re elder care. Tax credits are a benefit to companies not families, businesses should be paying their staff a fair and living wage that doesn’t require government top ups to ensure people can afford to live a baseline standard of life. Absolutely no judgment here and sorry if you felt that comment was in any way shitty, honestly not my intention at all.

It's shitty that wages are so low for some people, especially keywokers etc that a wage top up is necessary. I remember a teacher yelling in my face I wasn't smart enough to stack shelves and I thought at that moment, "that's because those people pay attention, I dont", I have wild ADHD, yet years later I looked after his aunty in a nursing home and he behaved like we'd been best friends

It's such a strange thing, how people view it, some people will say, "I don't work to buy your kid shoes", but what kind of society to we Live in where a family can't afford to clothe their children?

The whole situation needs revamping, affordable housing and better wages, the fact is, not everyone will have a decent paid job and people shouldn't be made to feel scared to ask about benefits, nor judged.
People would be so much happier if they understood what they were entitled too and I think people who have a bit of a penchant for poverty porn, if they understood the reality, there would be alot less division.

I hope I helped, I definitely didn't feel judged etc, just hoping to clear it up a bit, someone struggling may read this and wonder if they're entitled and apply etc so I'm an open book! X

I've worked in law firms with these men my entire career and can confirm 99% of them are fuck ugly and the ones who aren't are arseholes who think beige chinos are the pinnacle of fashion.

I’ve been wracking my brain to think of *any* hot man over 40 I’ve ever worked with and I’m struggling. The exceptions are very very big dogs in media (who arguably straddle the bridge between public figure in their own right and company X employee?) who are clearly getting tweakments and facials etc, and gay men. Straight middle aged men age like milk in the sun because they’re too arrogant to do anything & I don’t think the mumsnet huns’ stash of Elemis can reverse their tragic fate.

They're obsessed, OBSESSED with 'family money'. The constant parroting of "All money is family money", but that only ever seems to be the case if the woman is a SAHM. If she's working then it's 'her' money because "You've earned it and it's yours".

It’s bizarre when you consider the NHS is the country’s biggest employer so it’ll be near on impossible to track you down! But I don’t think many of them have much wider world knowledge, if it’s not happening down their street they’ve got no interest

The problem is they're so self-obsessed/entitled/sheltered/deluded they think everyone they've ever met is infatuated with them and on a mission to trawl through mumsnet to try and find and out them. in reality no one could give even less of a shit about them or their life

There’s currently a thread running on there about M&S Cafe now serving a macaroni cheese toastie with a side of chips and how disgustingly unhealthy this is because its ‘carbs, carbs and more carbs’, they then go onto say it’s no wonder there’s an obesity crisis, like people don’t have free will and shouldn’t be allowed an unhealthy treat once in a while. Whoever said on the previous thread that MN is effectively a pro Anna site isn’t far wrong.

I have absolutely no evidence of this but you know how you can spot the competitive mums who are mentally clocking up everything from how much your house to the buggy costs, how much you’re earning, how useful you are to them, etc etc? Often delusional about their own position in the world? Is mumsnet not just a nationalised version of this problem

There was the classic show us your bedroom thread where someone posted a photo of a Parisian hotel room and claimed it was their bedroom even when it was revealed where the photo actually came from.

I also read that people were taking photos from property sites and passing them off as their own too.

That was Crumbs. Resident MN fantasist/troll and she of the Nativity on the village green replete with cherub faced, rosy cheeked children and sheep in fairy lights. Seem to remember she doubled down on the hotel bedroom and the thread got deleted in the end.

I tried to join a handful of times and even on my nicest behaviour I never felt safe or even welcome there and left after a few hours which as a young mum of 4 was really disappointing. I would have really benefitted from a community like that but it was so aggressive and snarky for no apparent reason. I also really struggled to find other pregnant women or mums with young children to talk to!! Most people had teens, adult children or were even grandparents and had no interest in what my cervix was doing. Sad times

Mumsnet really scares me. I lurk now and again but won't even register, there is no point at all when I've found Tattle, which I am really liking so far because having different opinions is actually welcome and encouraged here.

I wonder why Mumsnet is as vicious as it is? The only place I can think of that is as bad/worse is Twitter.

It got a reputation pretty quickly as being a “nest of vipers” and only a thicko would have such lowly aspirations.

So that’s who it attracts nowadays - nasty thickos.

Can someone explain to me why people seem to post a thread at the most unconventional times!?

Eg- husband having a heart attack- need a hand hold waiting for ambulance

If that was a normal Person surely their focus would be on their husband or whatever the situation is.

I think a lot of it is image projection/maintenance from them, like they may not necessarily shop in these places or have these incomes but they perceive themselves as either worthy of it or coming close to it so chat like they are? We’ve all met people like that in real life who use broad brushstrokes to conjure up alternate realities - like “went to uni in Cambridge” isn’t actually Cambridge tho is it hun, or “works in investment banking” but is trade support lol. Or my fav is “is a company director” like it’s a stunt and not something anyone could say for the £40 reg fee

Also I refuse to believe anyone who’s actually bought clothes from Whistles would recommend them, the quality is appalling I actually have primark PJs I’ve worn for actual years and stretched out through a pregnancy that have lasted longer than >£100 dresses and (wool) coats from them. The cut of a lot of things is off too. The only good thing is their leather jackets & the little clutch zippy things for your bag?

yep that’s right! A few lucky people had their stuff arrive, but most seemed to begetting their orders cancelled. The best was a poster that had emailed John Lewis to ‘remind them’ they needed to honour her order at the price she paid. So bloody cheeky. Like if you get lucky with a glitch on a code, great you save some money. But taking the piss trying to get hundreds of pounds of goods for free is a joke and then acting all indignant when they cancel your order. I mean what did they expect!

there were also posters claiming they had bought stuff to give to charity with the glitch. Total bullshit the way some posters pretend they are oh so virtuous. They just wanted to be greedy like the rest of them, at least admit it!

Complete and utter disingenuous chancers and lying that they were going to give it to charity makes them worthy of the scum of the Earth label in my view.

I thought it was common knowledge that pretty much every online retailer has Ts and Cs on their sites, which state that the customer‘s offer to purchase goods from the site isn’t deemed to be accepted until the goods have been despatched. Thus the retailer can get out of having to honour sending goods, which might be out of stock or when there’s been a glitch like this on the site!
