I was shocked to hear at the time that Maddie had spent all that day in day care while Kate and Jerry played tennis and socialised with their friends. Then left them all evening. Why did they even bother going on holiday with their children. They clearly didn’t spend much time with them.

I know I keep harping on about the kids being left alone but I honestly can't get my head around it nor the fact that the only people calling them out are tattle members or Facebook commenters. The media is completely silent on this point.

Anyway, back to my point. The kids crying the night before for, reportedly, a long time speaks volumes to me. Those are kids that are used to have someone coming if they cry. Children that know no one will come don't cry for a long time. So that to me makes them seem like quite attentive parents to their kids at nightime. But then like many people have said, left in daycare all day and alone all night is the complete opposite.

This case is so contradictory at every way you look at it.

in the 90’s my 3 year old cousin packed a bag with her fav toys unlocked the door & walked 1mile up
The country road to our house because she didn’t want to live at home. She was headstrong from
A young age, her parents were still asleep
When we called @ 8am.

Let's remember if they did find something it could be bone fragments. They wouldn't ever be able to announce they have 'found her' as it's been so long her skelaton would be in pieces. I hope they found something at least so it will be another piece of the puzzle revealed
It all depends on the type of soil and how deep it was buried. Some soil types would act as a preserver and the body could last intact for hundreds of years, whereas others would cause the decompose quite quickly. If the body was not buried very deeply then it could be disturbed by animals and scattered over a big area. There are so many variables that it's hard to say what is meant by "bone fragments ".

Having said all that, it's unlikely to be a fully articulated and identifiable body unless it was buried in layers of plastic at a reasonable depth.

I just read 'the darkest secret' by Alex Marwood and there are a few side glances to the MM case. Don't want to put up spoilers but I wonder if any of the other kids that night were tested for sedatives?

IIRC Kate and Gerry refused to allow any examination and testing of the twins.

it makes me wonder if they were sedated to sleep. Woke up, groggy and confused in a different room than normal might make them cry when they maybe normally wouldn’t

In German media I read about a „Maddie shrine“ found in 2007 already. An arrow formed out of marbles directing to a photograph of Maddie and some flowers. A couple photpgraphed it back then and sent the pictures to the police, but seemingly only recently to German police, hence the new investigations. Is that covered in British media as well? I mean, probably.

There were a few mentions that she had some issues with Madeleine. Imo for a couple who had to get ivf to get pregnant they were extremely careless with their kids and quite cold, as if they were more like accessories than extremely valued babies they were trying for so long.
A lot of parents struggle with their kids. Parents who had to do IVF perhaps even more - IVF is gruelling, and the guilt / unhappiness when things turn out less than perfect can be even worse than if you didn't have to invest so much money, effort, and physical pain to have your children.

People like to paint parents who struggled to have children as somehow superior and more deserving - they had to do SO much, they must have REALLY wanted their children. As if really wanting children and going to great lengths to have them, means you will or would be a better parent than parents who conceived at the first try.

That's a fallacy.

People who struggled to have children can be just as unhappy, disengaged or indeed downright abusive as people who had their children easily.

The kids shouldn't have been left, but to say the parents are 100% responsible implies that someone who potentially abducted, brutalised, assaulted, murdered and dumped her body holds no responsibility.

I find the lynch mob and pitchfork movement towards the McCanns to be really puerile and I thought we'd left that behind.

I agree there is implications to do with class and that other missing persons cases don't receive anywhere near the same exposure, but it's incredibly rare for such a small child to go missing in those circumstances, and for no evidence to be found.

We all know Gerry and Kate made a huge mistake, but going on and on about it isn't going to make a difference.
Exactly. We can repeat its the parents fault over and over but it doesn't change the fact the poor girl has never been found

Glad to hear that there is place on Tattle to discuss true crime but while reading this now I can see that there are some you can still believe in the abduction theory...Facepalm..are you for real? Read Goncalo Amaral's book, listen to Pat Brown. Or if you like conspiracy - Catalina Lupsa. But if you believe that one of this girls could have been Madeleine or if you believe Maddie was abducted LOLZ

Because they had the ability to control it, they had connections

Kids of 2, 3 and 4 are cunning, adventurous and extremely nippy. They will be out of a locked room and away before you have time to wonder ‘how did they manage that’. They also have no real sense of danger. I’d never say they wouldn’t do that because of x,y,z … because as someone who wrangled more pre-schoolers than is good for the nerves … yeah, they probably would.
A young relative of mine at the age of two managed to get on a chair, turn the key in the lock, and go wandering off towards the café a couple of km away because he wanted a bacon breakfast! We found him over a km away, he'd been gone maybe at best 20 minutes at that point. Small kids are like dogs, they can cover an incredible distance in a short space of time. The worst thing: a man in the street saw him walking alone in his nappy and didn't want to pick him up because he was afraid someone would think he'd kidnapped them!

I get the impression sometimes from Kate's comments and body language that she didn't like Maddy very much. I have a feeling Maddy was perhaps "difficult" in the sense of being defiant or not doing what she wanted or behaving how she wanted.

When you have your second child the oldest one generally becomes a pain in the a. It’s not their fault. They play up to get the attention back, that not so long ago was all theirs. Also any noise or carry on they have you are faster to try to sort them out because you don’t want the little one getting disturbed/hurt/woken up. I remember recognising me being impatient with my eldest and checking my own behaviour rather than hers when my youngest came along. They do know how to press all your buttons though. Once everyone has found their groove it settles right down and normality comes back. MM didn’t get the chance for that though.

Another thing to remember as well is that Madeleine is less than 2 years older than the twins and in that time Kate and Gerry had also undergone another round of IVF and Kate had been on bed rest for most of the pregnancy. Whoever her main caregiver was during that time, it wouldn’t be her mum so a lot of adjustments made on all sides.

They should have just left the kids at home. They were in Kid's Club all day and alone in their bedrooms all night.
Maybe then all THREE of them would have returned to the UK alive.
bleeping feckless parents!
