I fucking hate the McCanns. Ultimately they are responsible for this. If they’d taken proper care of their children this wouldn’t have happened. I’m sick of seeing Kate’s simpering face walking around with ‘cuddle cat’ when her gross negligence as a parent was to blame.

There are so many people missing- why do they not get the same level of attention and money put into their searches?! Because Kate and Gerry are middle class they’ve always been viewed as respectable and beyond derision and people merrily chuck thousands of quid at them to find Madeleine.

Andrew Gosden is the perfect example of another missing child- and his case hasn’t had a tenth of the the coverage theirs has.

If I was to leave my house unlocked and fuck off down the road to eat tapas and drink, and some sick fucker walks in my house and takes my kid, I’d be to blame because I should have locked them in and stayed home to take care of them.

Fucking McCanns.They boil my piss.

The parents weren't involved, they were just very, very stupid and are now paying for it for the rest of their lives. It's clear in their body language and constant efforts to keep Maddie in people's minds, that they had nothing to do with it.

That poor little girl probably died within hours of being taken.
They are paying for the rest of their lives?
And Madeleine most likely paid for it WITH her life!
Still, they had a great night out with their friends, eh?
I bet they never left their passports and cash on the bed in their unlocked apartment in case they were stolen, but they were quite happy to leave their children in that very same UNLOCKED apartment.
For 2 highly educated people it does not make sense as to why they thought for one second that behaviour was acceptable yet didn‘t they do it every night?
Disgraceful behaviour.

The kids shouldn't have been left, but to say the parents are 100% responsible implies that someone who potentially abducted, brutalised, assaulted, murdered and dumped her body holds no responsibility.

I find the lynch mob and pitchfork movement towards the McCanns to be really puerile and I thought we'd left that behind.

I agree there is implications to do with class and that other missing persons cases don't receive anywhere near the same exposure, but it's incredibly rare for such a small child to go missing in those circumstances, and for no evidence to be found.

We all know Gerry and Kate made a huge mistake, but going on and on about it isn't going to make a difference.
But many people do not agree with your overwrought assertion that Madeleine was “abducted, brutalised, assaulted, murdered and dumped”. This is a highly emotive way to describe something for which there is (as you yourself say) not a shred of evidence. Without evidence these things took place only in people’s’ imaginations, sprouting from the seed planted by the McCanns.

There is however very interesting evidence to support the theory that Madeleine died in the apartment, probably by falling, and the parents covered it up. This too is only a theory. But it holds just as much water (more, in many peoples’ opinion) than the abduction theory simply because there is much more evidence pointing in that direction.

Being angry at the McCanns, their disgusting treatment of their own children, their endless fundraising, their paying off the mortgage with those funds, their hiring of PR gurus and ongoing manipulation of the media, their refusal to answer police questions, their pushing for public funding for an entirely pointless investigation and at the end of the day their getting away with child endangerment at the very least and possibly much more than that - this is not “puerile”; it is entirely reasonable. If that makes me a member of the “lynch mob and pitchfork movement”, sign me up.

The McCanns seemed to lack a lot of the normal parental instincts. Leaving babies and a very young child, alone for stretches of time, in an unlocked hotel room, so they could party 100 yards away? That's not normal, loving, parental behaviour. Gerry playing tennis the morning AFTER his daughter had gone missing? This is not normal, loving, parental behaviour. I know if our daughter had gone missing my DH would have searched the streets until his feet bled.

People often make the mistake of assuming that every parent has a deep, loving bond with their children and would instinctively put their needs before their own. But that's far from the case and that's why child neglect and abuse happens. Some parents, very sadly, see their children as a hindrance to the life they want to lead. Many parents selfishly usually put their own needs and desires first. I believe the McCann's fall into that category, though I suspect it was more Gerry insisting they holidayed like they barely had their children with them, rather than Kate.

At the end of the day, whichever way this goes, it's Kate and Gerry's fault Madeleine is (more likely than not) dead. If she was kidnapped then that wouldn't have happened if they hadn't abandoned her and the twins in the room. If she died from an accidental overdose/choking on her vomit/a fall then that likely wouldn't have happened if she'd been left alone.

I personally don’t see a resemble with her and the mother . I also don’t see a resemblance with Maddie . But everyone views things differently or how they want to. Doesn’t mean the aren’t related . Only time will tell .

I think Kate and Gerry should have got jail time for child neglect. They failed as parents to protect poor Madeleine. It’s Madeleine my heart breaks for not them.

I know not everyone agrees but if this does bring closure at all I wonder if the McCanns will ever hold themselves remotely accountable for leaving those poor babies alone whilst they went off and ate and drank the night away.
They should have been arrested and charged for neglect even back then. Any normal parents would have, they just had money and good jobs!

If an average family from a council estate left their kids in a hotel alone to go on a swinging bender pretty sure they’d be in jail.

They abandoned those kids they’re 💯 responsible , if the kids had’ve burned to death in the apartment would we just say” oh how unlucky pity their parents didn’t finish dinner sooner they may have saved them, after all the poor parents deserve a holiday too” 🙄
No one with a shred of humanity would turn around to two parents whose children had burned to death and say "fucking serves you right".
I have read and reread Monga’s post and she never wrote “fucking serves you right” so I don’t know where you got that statement from.

So @MrsPiggleWiggle if your neighbours went out for dinner a few doors down, leaving their children alone and their house burnt down and the children died, are you saying that your neighbours should be blameless and anyone who dared to question their neglect told should be told that they don’t have a shred of humanity? I don't think anyone with a shred of common sense would find that acceptable.

Whatever happened to Madeleine in that apartment that night it could not or would not have happened had the children not been left alone.
Without her parents selfish actions she’d still be here. Cause and effect.
Poor Madeleine deserved better.

I used to say I’d need eyes in the back of my head when mine were toddlers, I put up safety gates , strapped them into prams, car seats, even pulled up the cot side for a reason ,I saw it my duty to minimise damage and put their safety first,at no time did I think it was a good idea to leave them alone while I went out for dinner, that’s just downright negligent …If people think it’s inhumane for me to think that I personally don’t give a fuck my sympathy lies with the poor child they failed, not their failures.

Problem is there's lots of misinformation and myths around that people just latch onto and believe without questioning it. The myth about Kate washing the cuddle toy for example. She did wash it but not for months after the disappearance
Sorry I find that odd. I still have my Dad’s fleece folded up in the bottom of my wardrobe. Two years on and I could never wash it. It would be like losing another part of him. Occasionally I will unfold it to breath in his smell. Perhaps you find that odd. I find it comforting so I cannot comprehend how Kate could wash something of Madeleine’s and so soon too.

The McCanns appear to be under the impression they are entirely guilt-free for leaving THREE little kids alone whilst they went on the razzle.

It would have been a very different scenario if this had been Tracy from some sink estate instead of these two upright, upstanding model citizens, Doctors no less!

I was shocked to hear at the time that Maddie had spent all that day in day care while Kate and Jerry played tennis and socialised with their friends. Then left them all evening. Why did they even bother going on holiday with their children. They clearly didn’t spend much time with them.

Until they explain the presence of Cadaverine in the holiday apartment, I am convinced that Maddie died in that apartment. My understanding is that a corpse has to lie for 90 minutes before releasing Cadaverine. This would also seem to rule out a random pweirdo preying on Maddie.

I can’t reach any other conclusion that the parents know Maddie died.
I agree with this. The McCanns know this poor girl is not their daughter, or will anyone else be as they know. The McCanns know Madeleine unfortunately died in that apartment on May 3, 2007. My belief is it was an accidental death, she climbed up onto the window ledge and fell on to the tiled floor (where the dna blood marker was found under the tile, and where the dog indicated). Research shows that in a small child the presence of Cadaverine is detected after only 20-30min. So she’d only need to be lying there for a short amount of time for that to occur.

Her death was covered up by Gerry and Kate. They were scared that an autopsy would show her body contained a sedative of some sort (same as the twins). They were keen for the children to sleep through the evening, so they could dine at the Tapas bar. Plus an autopsy would also show the time of death, which would show she’d been left alone in that apartment (whilst they were in the Tapas bar). The upshot of this would have resulted in Kate and Gerry potentially losing the twins, losing their license to practice medicine, their career /jobs/income and lastly the worst outcome would have been the loss of their liberty.

The Portuguese police were bang on the money with this case, and knew within the first few days that no abduction had taken place. There has never been any evidence of an abduction found on this case….ever. And they concluded that it was a simulated abduction by the parents to cover the accidental death of Madeleine and the fact they had removed her from the apartment and hidden her (and then subsequently moved her).
I strongly advise anyone interested in the facts of this case to read the (translated) PortuguesePolice files. Also the Leicestershire police files from 2008, where we see some truths from the Tapas 7.

The best documentary I’ve seen on this is by James Bogart - Madeleine McCann Case Solved. It’s on YouTube - it’s a 21 part doc (each one is around 20-30min). The detail is phenomenal, I’ve never seen anything like it. I completely believe this was the sequence on events on May 3-4, 2007.

I’d also recommend watching the Peter Hyatt interview, Embedded Confessions by Richard D Hall. Peter’s a statement analyst in the USA. He’s helped the FBI/CIA solve cases, plus works with State Law Enforcement Officers. Again, I believe this is be completely accurate.

It’s unlikely this girl is actually Maddie but just IMAGINE if she was! That’d be insane, what a twist in the tale. Regardless, this poor girl had been through hell and I feel so sad for her. Whoever she is.

It’s unfathomable to leave them in the first place. And then imagine your defenceless baby says to you ‘why didn’t you come when we were crying last night’ and you leave them again that very evening.

As far fetched as concealing your deceased daughters body and fabricating an abduction as a cover up sounds to some, I wouldn’t put it past people who were happy & willing to leave three babies alone for hours to socialise. Was the babies’ distress an inconvenience? Maybe it didn’t register at all? Either way - what the actual fuck.

I don’t think there’s ever been a day that Gerry hasn’t happily prioritised himself. Zero accountability. Kate I’m not sure about, maybe it was a coercive controlling relationship but I find the things she wrote in her book about madeleine’s body parts fairly unforgivable. And extremely unnecessary, unless you have a vested interest in misdirection — tapping into every parents worst nightmare by directing public focus onto a faceless boogeyman.
A vested interest in misdirection - indeed. I always assumed she’d written that horrible stuff because by that point she’d consulted with enough specialists in the field and knew by then how parents of missing children really feel and think.

Knowing your child is dead must be terrible, but it is entirely different to the horrors that run through a parents head when their child is missing. Peter Wyatt and Pat Brown, both of whom have consulted on many missing children cases, have talked about the way parents act and think when their child is missing. For those parents there is no closure. There is nothing else to think about. The torment is all-consuming and never-ending. They don’t sleep or eat. They are constantly searching and thinking back on what might have happened. There is PTSD that remains for years even if the child is found safe and sound - anyone who has experienced a child going missing even for a very short time understands this.

They do not, within the first 3 weeks of losing a child:
- stay in their apartment and refuse to go and look for the child
- come up with different versions of a timeline (because the precision of that timeline in finding a missing child is so incredibly important, and the cortisol levels are so high it creates extreme clarity about what was happening when)
- employ PR teams
- talk about how much better they felt after the first week
- say things like “this one evil act has produced so much good” (what possible good can there be when your child is missing?)
- show no terror about what might be happening to their child
- prioritise interviews in which they use the time not to beg frantically for the return of their daughter, but to make sure everyone knew that “we are very good parents, it was just like eating in our back garden, and lots of parents have told us we did nothing wrong”.

In my opinion Kate and Gerry in those early interviews may have been grieving but very clearly had closure and were prioritising the next thing - salvaging their reputations and protecting themselves.

I think a big part of why people don’t like the McCanns comes down to class. He comes across like an arrogant surgeon, and she has an air of someone who would complain in Waitrose.

Their lack of self awareness regarding their privilege didn’t help them at all, but I think the media, government and police have a part to play in that.

What bothers me most of all is the Daily Mail and Facebook comments. Horrific jokes that are usually at the expense of Madeleine.
Not saying it's not true but I don't like them cause they left 3 defenceless toddlers alone in an unlocked apartment abroad while they went out for tapas and wine with their mates. I don't care what class they are, they are negligent and moronic

I will never be able to process why Kate and Gerry and their entire group of friends thought it acceptable and safe to leave babies alone. It disgusts me to this day the fawning over K&G and how nobody was allowed to say a bad word against them for years after Madeleine initially went missing. TV presenters coming out with offensive rubbish like "we've all done it" and public moments of silence and charity singles. Their "world tour" was one of the weirder things I've ever seen in the way someone responds to a situation like this.

I have never belived they harmed their daughter but I do believe the negligence on display was absolutely outrageous and that they were given a free pass will always sicken me.

I will also always be angry that their connections in high places were not disclosed at the beginning and they allowed the public to send obscene amounts of money to "find Madeleine" like they were people who lived in poverty. That they never disclosed that Gerry had a personal connection to the goverment and Kate had friends in the media.

The entire thing was revolting when you know other missing children/people are lucky to get even seconds of media coverage/help.

I don’t even have kids and I can’t imagine ever leaving children in an apartment on their own. Absolutely anything could have happened that could be foreseeable, from falling out of an unfamiliar bed, waking up alone and scared or even a fire wouldn’t be a huge stretch. But then seeing how close the apartment was to a gate which went onto a road I cannot understand what was going through any of their heads?! Whatever happened, the only victim was Madeline as she was totally failed by the people who were supposed to protect her
