The impression I got from Kate is that she found motherhood difficult. It's rumored that Madeleine was quite a handful .

That’s one of the things I find really puzzling about the McCanns. Given that they went through IVF ( a difficult and pretty unpleasant process particularly for the woman) to have their kids, you’d think they might be even more protective of them than some parents and want to spend lots of time with them. But the opposite seems to have been true.
i often think that a lot of career women like Kate struggle when they have children (even if they are desperately wanted). They are used to being in control and children especially babies and toddlers dont do things to plan. i think they often find it hard to admit they are finding it hard but dont seek help because this would somehow make them a failure. im sure Madeleine and her siblings likely went to nursery so they weren't used to having them all day and having to deal with them.
hence the kids club all day, then hurry to get them in bed and get out for the night!

Gerrys sister had a big mouth in the early days and accidentally said things she shouldn’t to journalists. She implied kate wanted to give custody of Madeleine to gerrys family in Ireland as she couldn’t cope. Some relatives were also apparently paying their mortgage as they were struggling financially. All out of the mouth of gerry’s sister philomena so like all my other points, not a forum rumour. If it wasn’t true then it was a cruel thing to publicly say. And what struck me overall is that the only relative that was clearly very heartbroken was Kate’s father. Everybody else seemed so emotionless.

In my experience the better off the parents the less time they spend with the kids. It's all outsourced. I know quite a few nannys in an affluent area and they are basically mum, they do everything. Then at the weekend the kids are doing activity camps and clubs the entire time.

I also worked in a holiday resort and some kids were in kids clubs all day then babysitting service at night.

Some people just treat kids differently, I find it werid but they were probably brought up the same way themselves so think it's normal. A bit like packing them off to boarding school.

I agree, I know a super rich family who pay for clubs, tutors, private schooling to avoid spending time with their children. They’re very smart children and want for nothing, but all any child wants is love and attention which is where the stereotype of these children being considered ‘brats’ comes from when they don’t get those needs met. It’s a real shame.
If Madeleine was a difficult child it’s likely she was just begging for love in the form of attention seeking behaviour which Kate didn’t have patience for. She’s never come across as motherly or maternal, even in old baby photos she seems quite cold, like a friend holding a baby not the mother. Sometimes the pressure of ivf makes it difficult to bond. I don’t think Kate enjoyed/enjoys parenthood and it didn’t come naturally to her. Madeleine spent a lot of time at nursery or with relatives. I can sympathise with a mother who struggles, but to then be fine when the twins came along seems odd.

Then you’d wonder why she went on to have the twins. It’s a very strange case all round. So many conflicting actions and stories.

From memory, while Madeleine was not quite 4, the twins were 2 and she had been on bed rest for a lot of the pregnancy

Doctors leave their children home alone. Go figure.

Who describes a 3 year old as beautiful? I mean I say it to my own 3 year old but surely you'd say cute or sweet, not striking and beautiful! He sounds like he's describing a woman!

I'm not sure about that. Because people get sent back to their home countries to be charged with crimes?
People can be extradited but that's different. The jurisdiction usually falls to the country where the crime was committed

Does anyone on my wave length remember a far fetched story that Madeleine was a twin and they were going to sell a baby/both babies or it was just a surrogacy. That a woman came and made a scene asking for Madeleine because she was hers but they didn’t give her up. There was another birth registered under kates details with the same details as madeleines birth, a boy possibly called owen? There’s a photo of Kate with a little boy very similar looking to Madeleine who was in the corner of the photo looking angry. All very strange. I was once almost close to believing the story that Madeleine didn’t even exist just based on how odd everything is! Once you think something makes sense another thing throws a spanner in the works.

Motherhood is hard and the idea of having children and the reality of children is very different and Kate and Gerry certainly had their hands full with 3 under 3. But still no excuse.

I remember this. Also that Madeleine was a surrogate and it was the "real" mother who had taken her hence "they've taken Madeleine" or an adoption. I believed both for a good while.

Course they do. It's about time for the annual maddy story, usually around the anniversary there is some "progress" which turns out to be nothings
Remember old Clement was looked at too

Yes. They were in kids club every single day. In her book she said she and Jerry would go off for a run or play tennis. Every. Single. Day. No one loves their free time more than me but to go on a family holiday and spend zero time with your kids, kids who are babies who still need you, on their first holiday making memories… Nah. They were an inconvenience to them.

Kate and Jerry should have received some sort of punishment for their negligent behaviour in my opinion. Eg prison sentence

Because I laugh reacted at this I feel the need to say I don't agree with the bit about Jen (Jen - you seem really compassionate and broadminded. Lots of shades of grey which I like) but the awkward efit was well...awkward.

You’re very welcome, unfortunately I’ll be working tomorrow so I hope you can find something useful to do with your time until I’m back sweetie, perhaps that little thing called get a life and accept other people can have options/speculations/discussions and debates without your view being the right one! The mccanns aren’t grateful that you waste your time defending them, find another hobby!
