If you look at the CQC report it provides an unbiased view of the hospital and also the maternity service

I did read the CQC but I found it pretty similar to lots of hospitals local to me tbh and theres no accusations of any murderers

I have personal experience of this hospital, my child was born here and was cared for in this unit within 6 months of the 12 month period being investigated here. We still have dealings with the hospital as my child has padiatrician reviews here (with the Dr already mentioned). I couldn’t have been more shocked when all this came out - the care we received was exemplary, the nurses were attentive and compassionate, as were all of the doctors, and we felt held and involved in the care of our baby during one of the most distressing times of our lives. In the years since then the paediatrician named has helped us to pursue different avenues of investigation for our child and always seems warm, friendly and genuinely interested in the ongoing development. We have left messages with his PA when we have been worried about something and received same day call backs from the Doctor, he has only ever seemed dedicated to the hospital and the children in his care.
we still keep up with the unit now,in their newly built space where they occasionally host little events for the graduates of the NICU and it is a lovely place to be - though they have obviously never have spoken about it with me or other parents, I know from knowing them at least a little that this will have taken a major toll on them and they will forever be devastated for the families of all these little babies.

hope your little one is doing betterI know how important it is to have a good consultant one who listens and actually cares how your baby is doing. It sounds him and his secretary work together well.

The evidence is really making me think she’s guilty so far but something that makes me think she’s not guilty is the rise in still births at the same time which clearly she had nothing to do with.

Bracing myself for another week and what may come out this week. I feel so strongly about this those poor babies didn’t have a voice they were entirely vulnerable and should of been cared for never ever hurt. The parents of those babies at this time are going through the unimaginable and absolute hell all over again. As always my thoughts are with them

I don’t think so yet? I also think by balance they would need to know the number of patients vs deaths for each of these years too? I think there was also talk about them being a band 2 facility though accepting band 3 cases?

That’s the one thing that’s throwing me off too. It will be interesting to hear what they say about this in court. I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned in the defence opening statement tbh.

The amount of still births for I think 2016 was unusually high even for that hospital. Another thing. Back when a lot of these babies passed. Professionals/people who know what they are looking at determined these babies had other causes of death. If they got it wrong then, they could have it wrong now. I am farrrrrrrr from convinced she did this. She's a bit peculiar, a bit hands on even unprofessional. But what the prosecution are selling as it stands I just ain't buying.

I have a question about the insulin. I know what insulin does, but why would a neonate need it ? What would make them hyperglycaemic to possibly need it ? I guess I was just wondering why they had it and used it on a NICU. I'm genuinely curious as to the answer

Very stressed, very small (extreme prem) infants can have high blood sugars and need an insulin infusion. Sepsis can also wreak havoc in their little bodies. The pancreas is immature, methods of transferring glucose are immature. Steroid treatment is used for the lungs, rising blood sugars are a side effect. But in my experience stress is the number one cause. These babies are often tiny and the most minimal of handling causes stress, never mind everything else that has to be done to them. These are the babies that have a rocky journey ahead of them

I doubt it as media coverage has stated previously that LL remained 'emotionless' throughout the prosecution opening statement.

I’ll see how it’s reported but do you think I should replace the child sections in the wiki with the actual evidence (and remove the opening statement which is more of a summary)? Or keep both? Conscious how big the wiki is already with just the reporting from the opening statement!!

i think that you should keep the opening summary and the closing summary when it comes. Maybe have a sub heading / section for both the prosecution and defence sections, for putting the evidence.
Personally, I don’t care how big it is as long as there’s a link to each section.
However, if it means too much work for you, then I’d do what is easier for you to keep on top of because this is going to be a long trial and your work load will be too.

Hmm maybe I will add a link to the reporting in each child section rather than copy and paste all the content. So it keeps the opening statement to give a quick summary but the link to direct evidence is there if people want to delve deeper. I’ll see what happens the next couple of days, how much content there is (expecting a lot actually). But I’ll keep the opening summary rather than replace it.
