There was such a mixed bag of opinions at the start of this trail but we are pretty much now all in the guilty camp. If Bellend Ben hasn’t changed your opinion or put doubt in your mind we have to trust it’s not working on the jury either

Not read the write up or tattle. But honestly today was laughable on many occasions. He came across as clutching a lot and it was almost patronising in places too, I was worried some opinions would be turned but actually no, in person it didn’t come across well

Apparently he’s doing a fine job according to the FB group. Blowing the prosecution case apart!! According to them. Amazing how we see different things. I haven’t followed today, what are we all thinking?

He says there is 'not one occasion of Lucy Letby doing one of the harmful acts alleged against her.'

Yes he’s right but…Oh, like most murders they’ve been done discreetly as possible. No one saw her? Oh, let’s give her the benefit of the doubt then and sweep them under the carpet. 🙄
Edited to add: she was bloody caught several times 🧐

BIB - why would she Google these things when she'd just done a course on them?
Well exactly, he knows that casts doubt, because most members of the public would need to Google such things, it won’t occur to them that a nurse already has a lot of knowledge. Beverley Allit didn’t have Google at her disposal either! Hymn. Just think how many medical murders there were before Google was around!

He says who Letby is, and was, is at the "heart of this case".

He says she had "never been in trouble before".

He says the jury will have formed an impression from her giving evidence of a "serious" person.

A photo of a noticeboard from her home, taken at the time of her arrest, "is a good snapshot of who she is, and was".

The noticeboard includes a photo of Letby smiling.

The noticeboard photo isn't conclusive but "isn't unimportant" - "this is the person we were dealing with at that time".

He refers to the "commitment" Letby did in training to care for "hundreds and hundreds" of babies.

He says it is "important of the type of person she is".

He says it makes the allegations "all the more unlikely", and medical professionals had spoken "highly" of Letby.

He says nurse Christopher Booth agreed she was 'conscientious and excellent', and it was "not unusual" for her to work overtime.

He agreed she was a "hard worker". He agreed she would be "upset" by the events which unfolded, as it was a "harrowing time".
I wonder if they tried this defence at Harold Shipman’s trial.

On the fb group they are calling this evidence con how much she was liked. But it means nothing. Why would he say bad stuff, no reason why she wasn’t a hard worker. Liked texting at work, but apparently everybody does it! There is nothing to say she wasn’t a hard worker, still doesn’t mean she didnt do it. The photo on the fridge of her smiling? Wow? If there was a photo on the fridge of her looking miserable that means she did it?? What the hell is he talking about!

When you boil it down there didn't seem to be a lot of substances to anything he said. He blamed coch for the collapses but as yet he's not really linked with the babies and shown what neglect/mistake led to what medical problem. There were no witnesses saying they felt the nnu was unsafe at this time.

None of the NNU staff have come out and said they believe Lucy was scapegoated.

He's criticised the highly respected medical expects. Dewi Evans had thirty years of working with neonates.

The Facebook searches and handover sheets are weird but they probably won't be what helps the jury make its verdicts.

He waffled on for the whole day but didn’t actually say much, reminds me of politicians and when you’re listening to the directors at work chatting tit.

The laughter from court 8 would suggest otherwise!

Gosh this is interesting, so really a copy and paste job right enough. I’ve been feeling so uneasy with it this morning when it started so stopped reading the live reporting. I haven’t followed other trials before to this degree and was actually going to ask here earlier if anyone knew how the defence closing statement compares to other high profile trials. Star Hobson for example, was SB’s defence quite persuasive or was it obvious at that point that she’d be found guilty. I guess it’s a completely different example right enough and perhaps not as split like this trial. Just wondered really if there’s no hope the jury won’t be swayed by BM but I know it’s impossible to say.
I can’t remember how SB’s defence came across at the time but I remember on the thread most people thought she was guilty but were worried about the reasonable doubt threshold. Because both Brockhill and Frankie were in the flat at the time, and both said they didn’t do it so can the jury be confident beyond reasonable doubt it was Brockhill. But it’s like this case, it’s the relevance of all the other evidence that matters too. And one of the defining pieces was Brockhill saying on the 999 call ‘I called mum in’ which means she had placed herself in the room and Frankie not in the room. But then backtracked during police interviews / evidence because it’s damning.

Letby has actually done the same with Ashleigh Hudson (I think) with saying she came into room 1 but then backtracked and said Ashleigh was already in the room. And there are lots of other little ‘errors’ like that in this case

My biggest concern is that this is ripe for the good nurse / bad nhs conspiracy theorists. If these medical experts have the same evidence for a non-accidental death for a child in the home with a Brockhill type then they would not be doubting whether it was a bloody virus.

So back in the day when I was a skint 16 year old single mum and I used to scan half my shopping and put the rest under the pram I didn’t actually do it because I didn’t Google it beforehand 😇 crime revoked, sins washed away

he’s not even quantified how many extra babies the unit had that they shouldn’t have had!

I know he’s doing his job but people are fools to just take his (vague) word for it. That is confirmation bias ffs. “I want Letby to be found NG so I’m going to hang off every word that Ben Myers says” !!

The thing is, I could take on the conspiracy theory as a possibility if they’d had anything to back that up. He could have gone all out on the scapegoat theory and how badly things were run. But sadly there has been nothing at all to back that up. I reckon that hospitals are bloody awful places to work and that there is probably a massive hierarchy between nurses and doctors and people will do things to cover their backs, however when you say what would they be trying to cover up? Nobody had an answer!
