Ben, guess what. When my son was in NICU, it was almost full. Which is why they were a bit reluctant to admit him initially until they did a blood gas.

When he was readmitted at 2 weeks to the children's ward, we waited in a cubicle in the children's emergency department for 14+ hours, because the children's ward was full.

In my son's 7 days at the NICU and 13 days on the children's ward, both of which were either full or almost full, no one's suboptimal care caused a collapse or death. And I'll be honest and say sometimes, things were late happening, when cannulas failed, he missed antibiotic doses waiting for new ones, sometimes they didn't always notice my son had been sick in his cot in NICU and sometimes, we didn't get the best care. They were absolutely rushed off their feet though and they did the best they could in October/November.


But again, none of this resulted in serious collapses or death.

Also, no one was texting away on their phone or creepily hanging around either and no one was their when they weren't on shift.

Nice to see BM has been to the Lucy Letby school of defence and is throwing every bleep but the plumber under the blood-stained wheels of the bus.

The jury have got this… I’m certain of it, they won’t be swayed.

They were likely stretched because somebody was making babies that were in room 4 and ready to go home, so ill they went back to room 1. It’s just stupid. Think how much longer babies were there because of her actions. She had time to text and laugh at people being rushed off their feet. That was for baby Q when she’d just watched two healthy babies die but she was finding it hilarious that people were racing around. I’d have struggled to see the humour in anything that day let alone that in particular. She’s revealed her true self many many times.

I actually can’t follow the live reporting at the moment… the defence of her is really making me feel quite ill. Is there any indication yet as to how long the defence closing statement will go on for?

Baby C had air in his stomach from the CPAP machine on a night when Lucy wasn't on duty.

Baby I had some kind of event when she was a few weeks old, would have had a gestation age of 29 weeks, it doesn't appear to be mentioned in the wiki.

He says of Letby's 2,318 Facebook searches, "only 31" related to parents' names on the indictment.

Mr Myers says Letby has not searched for things on 'air embolus', or 'forcing in air', or any 'fascination with what's alleged here'.

He says there is no evidence found Letby Googled 'haemophilia' following a conversation between a colleague nd Letby on Child N.

Mr Myers refers to the 2015 and 2016 diaries found at Letby's home.

He says there is nothing in the 2015 diary which is relevant to the indictment.

He asks, if the diaries are relevant, why there is no reference to Child A-K in them.

I went to court today with my friend. It really was horrible. let's call him by his real name BOWEL MOVEMENT. He talked very loudly and forcibly almost aggressively compared to BNE. I know you've all read the CS reporting so you know what was said but imagine it in his loud, arrogant voice and painting all the expert witnesses as unreliable. He didn't just throw Dewi Evans under the bus he cut him into 100 pieces first. He tried to make Letby look like a brilliant but wronged nurse. It particularly annoyed me when he said "NOT GOOD ENOUGH". Why didn't he also mention "I KILLED THEM ON PURPOSE". The way he normalised the 257 handover sheets because only a small amount were relating to these babies. The way he criticised BNE for what he said about her social life. The point was she tried to lie about this to gain jury sympathy that was why BNE brought that up because SHE LIED. The way he tried to normalise the FB searches.

The thought of that evil monster walking free and the parents with no answers fills me with dread.

We came back in the afternoon a little early and when we were waiting at the chairs outside we saw a group of people nearby all together. I am sure they were the parents of the babies. Then another couple sat quite near to us and I immediately knew who they were the parents of.

Interestingly for the first time I heard no names name as well as the gang of four anonymous doctor

I cannot say I'm not getting a bit worried because he's starting on baby A tomorrow and honestly the way BM is I really hope that jury is sensible and intelligent to see through this man with no experts to back him up but plenty to say vis a vis medical knowledge. He is so confident and vocal.

It must be so hard for the parents to listen to all this. Lucy could have saved them a lot of pain by just pleading guilty.

BM maybe confident and loud but he has no experience of neonatal medicine and can't really undermine the medical evidence. The jury will have all the evidence in front of them and some of it is very damning.

I have to keep telling myself he is doing his job reading through this. I was chatting about court (not this case) in work today and makes me wonder what BM really thinks of her outside of court.

Also the part about BM saying the methods of deaths changed with the babies…multiple serial killers change their methods over time. It comes with the confidence of thinking they won’t get caught and looking back it’s often what leads to their downfall. Hopefully LL’s too.

I think the setting she was in allowed for different methods of death, and she grew confident the more she got away with it.

Me.too..I've got a terrible feeling about it all, I'm going to try not to follow for the rest of the week, but don't trust myself not to

I really do hope you 're right. Four more full days of that bull I hope he doesn't manage to brainwash the jury. I know it's been mentioned earlier that he used a similar approach in the Jordan Monaghan trial and he was found guilty but JM was a manipulative mixed race man with a gambling habit. LL was a professional white woman being painted as a dedicated nurse so jury perception could differ. We all thought his defence summing could only be a couple of days given the absence of his own expert witnesses but we really got that wrong didn't we. As before there were a number of police there (all the same men/women we've seen before) and I can only guess what they were thinking about what BOWEL MOVEMENT was spouting. Also poor BNE having to sit there listening to it all but I suppose he's used to it.

I think it depends on the makeup of the jury in terms of the type of people they are and this is something we don't know.

Not read the write up or tattle. But honestly today was laughable on many occasions. He came across as clutching a lot and it was almost patronising in places too, I was worried some opinions would be turned but actually no, in person it didn’t come across well

I'm sure you've discussed this before, but I'm curious from any of m'learned friends on here about defence barristers and the cab rank rule - as I understand it, you have to take the case that's before you. I think this is an essential part of our justice system and even monsters deserve a fair trial. But I'm curious as to how it works if you're not convinced by their innocence, but if they've pled NG you still have to build a case for their defence? It must be very hard psychologically, especially if you're a 'winner' kind of personality (which, in my experience, a lot of lawyers are).

I think it’s easy to get caught up in making assumptions about what the barristers are thinking, and of course there will be cases that you have strong personal feelings about (or that was certainly my case, albeit I’ve never worked in defence), but in reality it’s a job. I’m not a barrister, but a solicitor with criminal law experience and whilst some I got (probably too) emotionally invested in, on the whole I tried not to get too caught up in the emotions of it all, just focused on the evidence, making sure the elements of the offence were made out, dealing with procedural formalities, and in especially horrific cases just compartmentalising it all. Sometimes IMO too much emotion can cloud your judgement, although in some cases being incredibly passionate about it is helpful, but I haven’t found that in every case. If you got worked up emotionally on very case it would probably get completely overwhelming, like I’ve said, compartmentalising is the only way I dealt with some of it although I’m sure there are lawyers with far healthier coping mechanisms! I don’t work in criminal law anymore but the same can be said for the law I do now, some clients yo connect with and you find yourself wanting them to do well and being more invested, whereas others are just a job, if that makes sense?! I’m sure it’s the same in most jobs to be fair!

Yeah that’s a truly shocking case and she 100% got away with murder but she was facing the death penalty and the prosecution didn’t really give much to the jury on why, where, how, when little Caylee was killed. Such a heart breaking case

Been sort of following today from the thread but, like a lot of you, I don’t think I can keep going the rest of this week. I know he has to do his job and obviously give her the best defence possible, but it’s such hard reading about little defenceless babies.
