I just watched odd one out. I am now a Jesy fan. She seems lovely and genuine. She was lovely to Sians parents.
I have anxiety and depression, and unfortunately it is a constant battle. I don't think I will ever be free of it. I can really relate to her about letting people's comments get to me.
I hope she is happy. I think she made the right decision to leave the band.
I also noticed that although her band mates tried to reassure her she is gorgeous, I don't recall them publicly condemning the trolls.

I think Jesys body is very normal and the media has given her dysmorphia, a lot of blame comes down the the X Factor - they were kids and the X Factor should of sheltered them a little from the media and given them training of how to deal with it rather than use it as a storyline.

I don’t think their stylists are helpful in any way, shape or form - their stylings are so bad that everyone picks them apart and not body wise but look wise. For example last night, in what world did they think that Perries white outfit A, looked good and B, was flattering because it was neither and it’s painfully obvious people will talk about it and I know the girls get upset about people talking about their looks but wearing fashion choices like that is allowing for them to be picked apart!

I completely understand what you are saying, but if body shaming didn’t exist then perhaps she wouldn’t have to step back from her job. Perhaps we should be shaming the people who body shame, not the people who are having their body shamed?

I think you’re missing my point slightly. We can’t control every single person on the planet and force everyone to be nice at all times. It’s not possible. Even if all of Jesy’s insta comments were full of praise and no one ever said anything negative about her again, her issues wouldn’t magically disappear because they go so much deeper than that. I really think Jesy should seek professional help and I’m saying this from a place of concern because she’s clearly very fragile and in need support. Real support from family and close friends, not strangers on the internet.

I dont think anyone disagrees with you. Has anyone here body shamed her ? Maybe i missed those posts. I just think youd need to be really really really sick to not show up this week and as others have said the silence from all speaks volumes. She needs help and she really needs it fast. She jumps from relationshil to relationship taking no time for herself to heal, grow, learn who she really is. She needs a break. Maybe she has already quit.

There have been several comments on here about her body and her clothes, so yes, I think that there is body shaming going on.

I started watching Jesy’s documentary yesterday with an open mind.... but switched it off after about 40 minutes. I found it difficult to watch, the person I felt most sorry for actually was her mum who just wanted her daughter back. Jesy clearly suffers with mental health issues I wouldn’t wish on anyone but she is incredibly self absorbed and comes across very shallow. Social media has a hell of a lot to answer for. She’s wasting the best years of her life being so obsessed with it.

I'll say it again. These people are the victims of instant success. No toilet circuit, no 3 am pack downs before a 6hr journey home, no r-sole promoters sodding off with your money, no creativity, with a desire to be famous, and not to be musicians.

Like plastic surgery, these people think it'll be the panacea to their poor self-esteem "no-one can touch me when I'm at the top", but we all know that you're much bigger target at the top. The panacea turns out to be a poisoned chalice, and your friends turn out to be associates, and your compliments turn out to be insincere, and when your stock drops, you get dropped.

When you're moulded into something you're not, when you're dressed and marketed into something you're not, when the music you're told to sing is just the same, tired old trope every other manufactured shite has sung about before you, unfortunately, you only see it when it's too late.

I'm sure here and there, there are manufactured artists who write everything, however, a publishing deal is never the full story. So for example, I write the music and the lyrics mainly for our band, but we recorded a few singles with Kylie Minogue's producer, and he suggested a bridge in the song-4 lines that I wrote, 4 chords that he wrote (I loved them, btw). As soon as the song was approved by everyone, he pulled out an agreement, which had him listed as a co-writer, and as being eligible for 4.5% of what we earned from the single (so that's 4.5% of what's left after everyone's had their wedge from the 100%-management, label, pluggers, fluffers etc...). Don't get me wrong, we're going to be recording with him again (even though we're more like Depeche Mode than Kylie ), but someone being listed as a songwriter can be completely cosmetic, and sometimes, artists can insist on it as part of their deal, even though they end up contributing very little. It generates more revenue for the artist.

Jessy hasn't been active on Instagram for a while, her and Sean are still following each other, as much as I like Jessy if she leaves the band or not they will still do well without her as Perrie is the best vocalist out of the band in my opinion, I definitely can't see Jessy going on the 2021 tour

Oh dear. I don’t think this will end well. On another note, she must’ve gotten with him really quickly after her breakup from Chris. Didn’t they break up in April? If her And Sean broke up in December then that means they got together the month that her and Chris broke up. I really do think that she would be benefit from taking a break with relationships. She needs to love herself first.

Manufactured bands like this are cash cows for record companies, but there is also a race against time to recover the investments in their product.

For that reason, they have millions ploughed into capitalising on their relevance for an intense period of time where their product is drained of everything. Unlike people like Bowie, the band are in control of nothing-even the co-writing. Co-writing is a nonsense, but an important phrase to use when trying to sell the "integrity" of the band i.e. to try and fool the public/fans that their involvement with the writing and recording process is a collaboration and not an autocracy.

These kids wanted to be famous. Their brand is handed to them, their musical style is handed to them, even the way they behave in interviews is handed to them. Nice shiny pretty ornaments. That's what separates manufactured bands from genuine artists. They can sing, but that's literally their lot. They have no idea what they're letting themselves in for when they sign on the dotted line. I seem to remember S Club 7 or someone like that saying they didn't get a single penny for several years (royalties are usually paid twice yearly).

Add to that the underlying psychopathology of people like Jesy, who believes the path to validation is to put yourself in the firing line of criticism. It's like having a nose job when you've got body dysmorphia-you don't see the change. You still feel ugly. I don't doubt she's another Caroline Flack with respect to her, and I don't doubt overdoses, self-harm and eating problems are novel issues only presenting since the band started. I have no doubt these issues predate her fame, only that fame has amplified the symptoms.

The music industry is competitive, critical, bitchy and incredibly haughty. The days of hanging around in clubs together and talking shop with a view to jamming at each other's houses with a spliff and a bottle of Jack, are dead. That's why there's a belief that true music is dead. The parasitic, money motivated machines have taken over, and machines don't empathise-they just demand more, and more, and more.

Great post. Manufactured bands appear to have maximum shelf life of 10 years

I’ve lost a lot of sympathy for Jesy at this point and I say that as someone who relates to her struggles with body image etc. She clearly has issues but she needs to take responsibility and deal with them properly and give up this constant need for validation from strangers. Not posting thirst pics on insta would be a start.

I’m glad to hear about Perrie and Jade, although I had no doubts about Jade at all.

Perrie I feel for, I have no doubt she’s a nice girl but after the whole thing went down with Zayn she definitely burnt some bridges with some big names in the industry, due to their loyalty with Zayn/Gigi (Dua, Taylor etc) and doesn’t have the best reputation with anyone with the slightest loyality with Zayns or Gigis family.

Jesy just seems insecure which is really sad, but abit mad she broke Chris’ heart really badly.

Leigh Anne is a weird one, again not very liked/respected in the fashion industry. I know you shouldn’t judge someone on who they date but you don’t date someone who polar opposite views to you. It’s like saying of I support trump but I’m not racist or homophobic. She’s just proven that homophobia and sexism isn’t a deal breaker in her relationships

I went to uni where Leigh Ann is from, she is a known bully! Heard it from many people who weren’t connected so very inclined to believe it.

Can’t stand LM for this reason, she had really put me off them.

Let’s not forget that this was a manufactured “band” put together from a bunch of people on a talent show. They didn’t grow up together as bosom buddies. They were workmates. Sometimes your workmates become closer friends, often they are not and when you move on the friendship gets put on the back burner. This is Little Mix, not The Beatles. Good luck to them all in their future endeavours but let’s not pretend that we shall be talking of their contribution to music and culture in the same way we do about Lennon and McCartney in years to come
