She was hoping the squigs would say she looks like Anya Taylor-Joy
I think you’re being optimistic; a fast walking speed is 5mph & most people are around 3 to 4.5mphBy my rough calculations (and a wee google) it would take a person of average fitness over two hours to walk 14 miles/22 kms. She walked over 4 hours a day?
Insert Jimmy Nail etc.
14 miles my shiny metal a.

Hold up. American here, have been fishing on remote lake without cell service. You lot are s'posed to pledge allegiance to Charlie in front of your teevees?
A kid on their way to school, in school shoes and carrying a bag, probably walks at 2.5mph, maybe 3 if they're hurrying, but there's a reason Shakespeare refers to "the whining schoolboy, with his satchel/And shining morning face, creeping like a snail/unwillingly to school." Kids don't hurry to school.By my rough calculations (and a wee google) it would take a person of average fitness over two hours to walk 14 miles/22 kms. She walked over 4 hours a day?

Oh ducks sake! My early morning eyes deceived me!Yeah. It does say county not country.
There isn't enough of Southend for her to walk seven miles. The school would need to be somewhere in open countryside.A kid on their way to school, in school shoes and carrying a bag, probably walks at 2.5mph, maybe 3 if they're hurrying, but there's a reason Shakespeare refers to "the whining schoolboy, with his satchel/And shining morning face, creeping like a snail/unwillingly to school." Walking seven miles to school at 2.5mph would take nearly three hours. Assuming school started at 9, did her parents never stop to question why their daughter was leaving the house at 6am? Did they not wonder where she was in the three hours between school finishing at 3:30 and her falling through the door, exhausted, at 6:30pm?
That’s a really awful decision from The Stand. I work for the Civil Service, and when I’m at work, I’m paid to be impartial. This can be challenging at times but at the end of the day, I’m there on merit, to make decisions on behalf of my Secretary of State, largely in the interest of the tax paying public. The lead story on the BBC Scotland website is the one about The Stand refusing to work with Joanna Cherry.
As said upthread, it would be marvellous if the Stand staff also thought that working with a pretend activist reverse Robin Hood character was not ok.
Just screenshotting the post on MN which @PoorPatrol found which confirms guest isn’t on the recordsYes she said she played chess for the county
No her name isn’t recorded on any of the county chess records
Have you seen Terminator? Obviously SkyChessNet sent a machine from the future to erase her name so she could never reach her destiny and defeat Chess Supercomputer Deep Slop
I agree. There have been a couple of protests at Edinburgh university regarding the showing of a film. In the end, it wasn't shown. That’s a really awful decision from The Stand. I really don’t think it’s for a few members of staff at The Stand to call the shots on this. Joanna Cherry was booked by someone who presumably works there; she’s an elected MP in Edinburgh.
Whether I share her views is irrelevant IMO, I don’t think it’s healthy to have a small group of people deciding what others should hear, in this context.
Yeah, I played netball for my county and it was exactly that. Nothing special, not something I was particularly proud of at the time, definitely not something I’d be tweeting about as an adult.I wouldn’t be surprised if “played chess for the county” was actually some kind of inter school tournament where schools from Essex and Kent competed.
Yes. I tried to look for it in Media, but caught a glimpse of her posing on a sideboard and felt breakfast start to move in my stomach. Had to abandon the search.Hang on... didn't she say that, during a recent lights off spell, she didn't see or speak to anyone for weeks? (Sorry for vague recollection)
Where does Check Mate-mate who she's "hung out with almost every day for the last couple of years" fit into this time warp?
