A frau mentioned fostering - I'm surprised she's not inserted herself into those discussions - kids leaving care (foster/state) can be left starting out with nothing - so a guide for starting a kitchen from scratch could've been useful. She could've taken after Dave and advocated for them to receive additional support/benefits (oh wait afaik Dave on advocated for the foster carers to get extra cash).
You'd think that would be up in her niche (oh err) as she'd have loads of misery stories to appropriate!
She really ought to be doing exactly this sort of thing, using 'bootstrap' in the more modern sense of starting out or starting over. Care leavers, ex-prisoners, people who've left an abusive relationship, or anyone else who's having to stretch a limited budget to set up a kitchen from scratch.

The "if you don't have this, use this" section of GK could have been a good start, but she filled it with patronising bollocks about gluing shirts to make tea towels, or using climbing equipment as a colander.

This really should have been the perfect niche for her - but she's far too lazy, and would rather sneer at people than help them.

I'm sure this has been discussed before I discovered these threads but how does she square her brown-nosing Nigella Mum with Nigella being a massive Tory?
Small point of order but Nigella has given every indication she isn't a Tory. She voted Labour in '89 (likely has since, IMO) and more recently has been very critical of Brexit and Boris Johnson. She's celebrated Labour by-election victories on her Twitter account. She's on record saying her dad should not expect her to agree with him 'on anything in particular'. And she had that spat with a Tory MP on Twitter over the ambushed by cake fiasco. /Fanboy

I trust Nigella to be truthful about these things more than I do Jack.

Oh god no, please don’t suggest a public facing job. No one deserves Jack inflicted upon them. She needs to work in a dark little stock room or something where she can let her inner goblin shine.
No, I must veto this. I worked in a place where they kept a Jack in the storeroom. It was awful, they accused me of using too many pens and generally acted as if the stationery was their personal property. I'll never forget the shark eyes boring into me and demanding to know why I was taking two Bic pens, then being followed to make sure I handed over the second pen to a colleague.

Personally, I think she resents those kids for taking her parents attention away from her, especially her dad.

I honestly think most her behaviour and issues are around her desperately trying to get attention from her dad. She deifies him and the difference in the way she talks about her mother and father is very telling.

I believe that dad has a massive ego and that he's star of that family and the females are supporting actors, add in a golden son and it makes a lot of sense. I honestly think she's attempted her whole life to emulate and get attention from her dad.

I don't know him so dont know if he's like that but I've met a few 'Big Dave' types in the charity sector. Theyre lauded for 'doing good' but are mostly in it for the kudos, rewards and very good contacts it gets them.

Eta: forgot to mention one I knew who blatantly told the committee that he wouldn't stop til he gets his MBE 😅

Listening to the greenbelt thing...I'm so angry with her. Using "scared of social services" as an excuse not to meet her son's basic needs by asking her parents for help...grrrrrr.

And the lie about the family restaurant she worked in, not being her family's, you can almost hear her realise she made a mistake in mentioning it.

What if ... after Thursday's "8 friends round", the utterly random tweets on Friday were to cover up the fact that she was supposed to be moving but all her 634 friends (even including the 8 who were treated to special slop) were too BUSY to cart her books, spoons and sideboards across town for her.
(They were especially uninterested in carrying the 21 packed up chairs they weren't allowed to sit on the day before)

Big apologies to the lovely Nigella then 💐 I'd just assumed that she was a nice Tory. Forgive me, mom.

Excellent points. Consider the Cypriot/Greek angle too. Mediterranean Princelings are still a thing and boys tend to be fêted. Girls, as you say, and sadly, are often just kept in supporting roles. My Old Harold is Greek 🔺 so I’ve seen some of this in reality!

What kind of bizarre family does she come from?

Jack: Hey mum and dad can you tap me a tenner until next week.

Parents: That's it! Should have shut your legs! We're calling social services! You will go straight to jail and will never see your son again!

She was writing her cv by hand, but a few minutes later she was talking about how she started her blog and writing to people on the internet...

(Apologies in advance for anymore self-quotes)

£10 says that come May she will have been advised by her doctor and team of specialists that she is not well enough to go ahead with the court case, even though her legal team were confident of success.
And she’ll show a screen shot of £12.21 donated to the local food bank, which she’ll claim is all the donations received when she rattled the tip jar for it.

Yes totally. I knew a British woman who moved to Athens to marry and she told me some stories about how much sons were worshipped in some of the families she knew.

Quite. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that, however loving and well-meaning they were (and obviously I have no idea what the deal is in their household, good or bad), troubled foster children coming in took parental attention away from the other kids.

The illness stuff. Again, may be projecting my own tit onto this whole situation, but kids can figure out that hamming up illness or injury is a (at least marginally more fruitful) way to jolt caregivers into meeting their (emotional) needs. Which is really sad for a kid to have to do (if totally understandable), but it's so debilitating in adulthood when it becomes your main way of trying to connect with people.

I think her mother has more influence on the family than Jack lets on. The religion thing, for a start... Grandad H had a Baptist funeral service, as an example - so will have been baptised as an adult at E's church.

It's the unquestioned minor inconsistencies of her backstory that are baffling and infuriating.
I was listening again to the Greenbelt talk. Crikey she lays on thick there. Crying. But come the s*icide attempt (about 20 mins in) -

she says she took 2 packets of sleeping pills, all her heart pills, two packs of paracetamol and drank a bottle of vodka. Seems trivial but where did she get vodka? She and SB were living on water and dry bread. When she went to the FB the day after she had a cup of tea 'for the first time in weeks'. It probably is explainable but just makes no sense. Possible reasons - A friend gave it? Why didn't they give them food instead? She shoplifted it? Why not food instead?
Also no mention AT ALL of SB's dad. Airbrushing him out was disgraceful of her. Utterly disgraceful.
So if you take the other bits out for the moment and just look at that amount of paracetamol, 16g worth is around the toxic dose for a person weighing 12.5 st. I have no idea of Jack's weight but I presume she is far lighter than that.

It takes surprisingly little paracetamol to seriously affect someone's liver, and how serious it is won't usually become apparent until a day or so later. It's important to seek medical help if someone has taken too much, even though they may seem well, as the effects creep up gradually 🙁.

This is the thing - how would SS even know anything unless it's reported? Frankly if you're necking two packets of sleeping tablets (well done on getting more than 5 of those by the way) and paracetamol and vodka of an evening perhaps they should have been involved!!
