I wonder if the terrible 24 hours that followed the amazing 24 hours involved some kind of legal situation which has led to JM being forced to make some sort of amends to avoid making things much much worse.

I suppose it’s just about possible that someone had their lawyer write a threatening letter along the lines of, update my client or we’ll commence action. But tbh I doubt it. From what I can tell from what’s been posted on here, Patreon’s very much set up on a caveat emptor basis and it doesn’t have the sort of consumer protections that exist in real life from obudsman, regulators and ultimately the law. The internets not bound by national laws and protections which is precisely why it enables grifters. You pays your money, you takes your risk.

I think the more likely chain of events is that the angry clamour from squigs just got too strong. Jack blames Tattle for exposing her grift (rather than herself, natch) so thought she could change the narrative by coming on here posing as Caroline. But we rumbled her so that didn’t work. She tried Vienetta deflection, didn’t work. So she’s had no choice but to post an apparent mea culpa, which as @NellieBoo pointed out, isn’t a mea culpa at all because she’s been claiming she’s sorting out the Patreon mess for at least the past two months.

Interesting that JM's Patreon "apology" is on Patreon but not on her Twitter. Given the amount of stick that she's gotten on Twitter for the Patreon rip-off, surely she would want to post her statement on the haunted bird app to show that she's sorry and is fixing things on Patreon. Or is she trying to keep her fixing quiet because of the very real possibility that it might not happen, or because of the potential liability from her admitting that she didn't provide the promised rewards? Really makes you think.

* run-on sentences
* overlong paragraphs
* constant digressions
* non-stop self-pity
* odd vocabulary choices (fallow period, practicable, anew etc)

* lots of references to depression and self-loathing as a form of defence

There are also specific phrases that Jack is known to use regularly - "chipping away", "making amends" (from AA as another Frau has noted, but Jack uses it a lot) are just two examples.

Go back and read Hunger Hurts 2: Electric Solar-Powered Boogaloo. Notice that the writing is stylistically identical, and also notice the underlying principle of insisting one thing while simultaneously denying it. In HH2, she was saying "I'm not poor" while also writing 1000s of words detailing her lack of shampoo, need to find a regular job etc. In the apology it's "I'm sorry, I fucked up" while every other word in the piece is all about how she is too sick, busy, depressed, neurodiverse, etc to fulfil her pledges.

(Incidentally, this is why I remain convinced that the Caroline poster was not Jack. I know other Frauen keep saying they share a writing style, but I don't see it at all.)

Well found! It's that one but I see it comes up with a different pattern at about £65 on various websites including alibaba
And yes it's been replaced multiple times with copper, blue, glass and pink kettles along with the toaster and microwave
Quite a contrast to the VBI (veritable bungalow inheritance) grade £500 copper milk pan etc.

I’m sorry, but it is nothing short of utterly f***ed that someone is happily mentioning her in the same article as Kwajo, who is an actual goddamn working class hero and carries out real, meaningful activism that actually results in material improvements to people’s conditions, whilst simultaneously shining a spotlight on the large-scale malpractice of many social housing providers. He’s a brilliant young man; he deserves to go far, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he will. He’s also studying for a degree at the same time as he’s sounding the alarm about housing conditions and doing casework for individual families, doubly impressive when you consider the circumstances he’s experienced. Anyone getting the feeling her publisher and/or agent have got a specialist PR agency on the case to try and rehabilitate her image? I wonder why? I think Jack got handed a template statement written by someone else, and added her own inimitable touches to it. I think she was forced (by her agent or her publisher or a lawyer) to apologize, and the compromise was that they would get an apology drafted for her, and she could personalize it before it was released.

The fact that there's any kind of apology in there at all is what makes me suspect she didn't initiate it herself, or write all of it herself.

Just catching up but I have to say a lot of you are way more forgiving than I am. I’ve been played by narcs (& I still annoyingly fall for it from people close to me then kick myself) but this is absolute bullshit from Jack.
She’s like a politician caught shagging who puts out a contrite statement. She’s only done this apology because the pressure has been building-she’s a disgusting con artist who’s been living off other people’s gullibility like a parasite for far too long. Where is all this unpaid work because we’ve been following the ‘toot toot’ burger boy, hammock, 120 meetings a week’ saga for ages now.

Through a combination of outside investigations and the realisation that she is losing patrons quickly. It is damage limitation and I would say completely disingenuous.

In fact Nigella explicitly saying the money would free her up to carry on her vital work rammed home the message that the rewards were superfluous. Nice slap in the face for long term patrons.

She definitely wrote it. Apart from anything, a decent PR agency that does crisis management will cost at least £7k pcm and no way is anyone spending that on Jack: she can’t even get decent editing or production values on her books. I can just about accept the idea that she asked some PR contact for informal crisis management advice, and they’d have given her the basis crisis management 101: fess up fully, apologise simply and sincerely, and explain in detail how you are going to put things right and when they’ll be put right by. None of which her narcissism has permitted her to do.

Well October has been a disappointing month for the worklog. Jack appeared to take the majority of the month off, despite being an increased call for budget cooking and a huge focus on her “niche” in the media. I suspect further commercial work (paid speaking gigs) occurred without our knowledge. The two identified on this month’s worklog were raised by other twitter users. She is likely raking it in with these events. Before I get started...

What I’ve not included:

• The two award events – Having a fancy dinner and collecting an award is not work. (Sorry.) The interview that took place for the first award show took place last month and 1 hour was accounted for in the total for September.
• Articles mentioning Jack but with no new recipes or interviews – Lots of rehashing of Jack’s stuff today. Jack has made zero contributions to these articles

Worklog

Jack worked a whopping 10 hours this month (approximately m'lud). This included 2 commercial speaking gigs (her previous ones have been an hour long and are a rehashing of her story so had minimal prep time and I really doubt she preps). I've settled on attributing 8 hours to today's Patreon statement and the work that can be seen so far in that photo. I think this is generous. The never seen before recipes are likely ones from Thrifty Kitchen. She's used vistaprint to produce photos previously so I think what we see here is a stack of prints she's ordered through them and then whacked on a table.

Forensic frau may notice I have knocked off the hour I had previously given to her for the green eggs and ham macaronic recipe. It's a "To do" item and if we ever see the recipe, I'll attribute the 1 hour (lol) to her then.

Jack claims 100 hour working weeks and we have 10 hours of completed work (nearly all commercial and none of which can be attributed to campaigning, activism or helping others). 100 hour working weeks would mean she would be working roughly 14 hour days. That puts the working hour deficit at 424 hours. I didn't make the pie chart showing the split between commercial/activism because I mean... It would merely be a circle.
