Freaky Friday (Sali Hughes played a blinder there 😆)
On discovering educated discourse on her thread, I then noticed another Guardian contributor in the form of Jack. I had previously tried a recipe of hers, and it didn’t work despite my bean rinsing.
One of the main flags for me though was that god awful and quite frankly irresponsible article the guardian printed regarding how fabulous she felt after one weeks sobriety, a few years back. As someone who does struggle with alcohol, it was confusing. I now see it for what it is, thanks to Tattle. Others will still take her on face value ☹
The fact she continues to be given platforms to spout her nonsense, really pisses me off.

However, I do love to read about it on here 🤣
It's horrible in the article I've linked below where Jack states 'I should really stop allowing myself to be so vulnerable' after being sexually assaulted multiple times - it reeks of victim blaming :(😔

I am always lurking because I never have anything interesting to say but HAPPY 300 🎉🎉🎉 I first felt sorry for Jack and it hit close to home because I’m almost the same age, have a similar age child and am a single mum. I have been so busy this past week moving into my “forever home” ( well I got a mortgage anyway). The home is very old and in a working class neighbourhood, so it wouldn’t suit lady muck. But I’ve been working bloody hard and I don’t have an OH whisking me to Venice. Oh and I did a degree in arts and studied some Italian as a mature age student and Italian Jack can duck off. Her lies are so laughable. Questa donna è davvero una truffatrice. E lei è molto molto sporca e pigra. Stick that in google translate Jack 😘

Every time I read that article, I find some sentence that makes me despise her that little bit more. Everything in it is just a bit too overwrought, reminds one a little bit too much of a scene in a film or a book, feels just a bit too constructed.

Sorry to all those fraus that struggle with issues relating to this. Sorry to all those fraus who don’t have a local shop owner who has nodded understandingly and prevented them from buying certain items.

She really has no shame.

Thanks Hela, this is the article that caught my attention. I couldn’t find it a couple of threads ago and I was wondering if I’d been in a fugue state and imagined her saying she’d been assaulted by male journalists plural.

Quite funny to see that Laurie Penny has just recently ‘come out’ as autistic - complete with big, dramatic announcement, a written piece, excessive just-googled examples of what makes her particularly autistic, and even an AMA page?!

They really do just consult the same playbooks, no?

Perhaps it’s just mean of me, but I just don‘t believe her about the note in the passport thing. I just don‘t think she’d be ID’d, covered in tats Etc. And if you really wanted a drink, you just wouldn’t use a passport with a note in it saying you’re an alcoholic. Besides, there’ll be another shop on the same road most likely, so this strategy just wouldn’t work. On the other hand, it is very attention seeking behavior, so maybe she did really do it.

Yes. This is partly how I came to realise she is a fraud, all her “autobiographical” writings are just wrong: a little bit too turned up, camp, telenovela. In writing parlance, she’s making the Creative Writing 101 mistake of using the wrong POV: rather than writing from her own POV, she’s writing through the POV of an audience watching her through a camera lens. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

As an alkie in recovery, I can also say it’s bullshit. When you’re in relapse you’re gonna buy the bottle. You’re not gonna duck up your chances of a drunk by presenting the server with a bit of paper telling them not to serve you.
I think she’s heard stories of real alcoholics families begging local off licenses not to serve their loved ones. I know at least one person that had that happen to them.
I thought it was actively offensive and irresponsible of the Guardian to publish that piece. She was two weeks sober getting a massive platform to lecture people with real years of recovery on how it’s done.

Ah, Laurie Penny. Every time she needs to sell some books, a new identity comes out. Queer, c-PTSD, neurodivergent. She’s so, so posh and so, so stupid. Another one with a platform she doesn’t deserve.

If (and it is a big if) Jack’s book of political essays is ever published I can see her going full Laurie Penny and claiming PTSD when the reviews are less than the glowing endorsements across the board that she’ll be expecting.

Bet she puts on her best weekend socks though... 😏
Is this a euphemism?

I've been celebrating 300 today by having a little nosy through tin can cook. I am a library frau so I do not have to buy it. I even refuse to borrow it officially. And by the way in very very many years of being a library frau I can count the times on one hand I've seen any of Jack's books on the return trolley.

Anyway I was reading this little delight where she waters down a tin of mushroom soup with 2 of water and I suddenly realised she did not know her mum used Campbells condensed soup. Oh my god can you imagine the flavour of that monstrosity swimming in 2 cans of water? 🤣
This made me genuinely hoot, fizz and howl because I used to make that condensed soup pasta sauce when I was a student (I think it was in a student cookbook we all had in the early 90s). And Jack didn't realize it has to be condensed soup! This made my day.

Completed it mate. I mean, Jack’s already claimed PTSD from the Pov pov. In fact she wrote a particularly nasty piece in which she equated herself with a victim of CSA in a police interview.

I went back in. I re-read thread #31 and it did not disappoint! It was so funny reading it again, she was being a head then and, dear hearts, she hasn’t changed a bit. Well no that’s not true, imo she’s got worse. Here are my personal highlights (apart from the ice lolly chat, intertwined with all the other shenanigans 😂)

Just reading Jack's article about her alcoholism and this bit leapt out at me.

Screenshot 2022-05-08 10.21.29.png

Frauen, I am 🍾 🦉 at the notion Jack requires a "private hideaway", like she'd be mobbed if she went somewhere else. Also hooting at the bar staff just plonking down her order without having to ask what she wants. I imagine them all whispering "it's Jack Monroe- yes THE Jack Monroe before scampering off to fetch something non alcoholic to support her sobriety.
