To add on top of this, cook the bacon first then use the bacon fat oil to sautee the onions/celery/garlic...god i love animal fat
My nana's neighbour used to make the best spag bol and would add chicken livers so I usually do too. I loathe liver so this is a good way to eat it without the trauma of "knowing" I'm eating it.

She doesn't recognise these as food, that's the problem.

Tin of soup feeds 2
Tin of soup #2 feeds 2
Tin of beans feeds 2
Tin of Tuna feeds 2 (well, actually, that would be enough for 3)
Two potatoes to eat with beans
One potato to eat with Tuna
Fruit every day
A sweet treat every day

It's less than the first one she was criticising, but again, it's good food for lunchtime.
What she expecting the lunches to be? Granted the ingredients aren't top of the list of healthy foods but it's food. It's also food that has to be stored and cooked and the people putting it together have no idea on parents cooking abilities. These are also foods that lots of older kids could make and help themselves to if parents were out at work all day. I would genuinely like her to give some input. Tinned fruit maybe? Corned beef?

Really sorry if this has already been asked, I’ve tried the search and gone through 10 pages or so tonight but can only find hints, but have JM & LC split? It’s just I haven’t heard much about them both lately and I remember doing all that losing weight, changing up my hair and generally being all over the show when I split from my bf and wondered if this was why?

Does anyone else real

Adding to the bacon fat chat. If you like bacon in your mac and cheese cook it off, take the crispy boiii bacon out with a slotted spoon and use the fat in your roux. YUMMMMMMY.

I made my own lard the other day from the skin/far on my pork shoulder I was slowcooking. I'm trying to be less wasteful. I chopped it up and put it in my cast iron pans. They got extra coating, I got some cooking fat and the dog got crackling. All from a bit of the pig I'd have put in the bin.
Ohhhhh lard is the best! Makes the softest tortillas for tacos. Using it to season your cast iron pans is genius too I've never thought to do that

When I roast a chicken I remove the skin at the end and place it on the grill above my potatoes so the fat drips directly onto them...then you have the most delicious roasties in the world AND crunchy chicken crackling

Yes, she has dropped hints and brief statements about being alone and her wife walking out.

Oh she's so poor all she can afford to buy is cheap supermarket ramen and that's all she can eat🙄 my eyes rolled so hard they saw the back of my head. Please drop the poor narrative, it's getting ancient and worn out. Combine it with the THAT MAN drama earlier this year, that she's now trying to steal Rashford's thunder too, she has quite a lot going for her, in the wrong bleeping direction.

Why has she put the whole of that tweet in brackets? I love a bracket (and use them liberally) but this makes no sense.

BTW, it has taken me hours to catch up, and that is with her Twitter embargo, albeit short lived.
I think putting a tweet in brackets is the equivalent of saying something under your breath, or as an aside, i.e. something you hope people will ignore.
I really hope someone called her out. She’s ridiculous trying to insert herself into Marcus’s efforts. She must be seething that, as she sees it, he’s got all up in her niche. 🙄
Thing is, she could have done something similar too, or tried to, back when lockdown started - if only she’d stopped twittering and producing dodgy selfies for one second.
In my home town (up north), a group of chefs from local restaurants got together to cook hot meals every night for the homeless (who’d been put up in hotels and hostels) and other vulnerable people. Local food suppliers donated meat and veg, and volunteers distributed the meals. This started at lockdown and is still going on - every single night. An amazing PRACTICAL initiative, and I bet there are loads more like it in other parts of the country too.
Jack’s done duck all.

This always winds me up too. Everyone should have pleasures in life, and if nothing else a TV and a subscription package is a much cheaper option than cinema tickets/other forms of entertainment long term.

Also, and this is what really pisses me off, it's the judgement thing. Like making less than ideal choices re: money becomes a morality* question when talking about low income people, unlike when people with more income do it. I just think it's awful. And it seems obvious to me that making good choices is a duck of a lot easier when you are having quite a pleasant time of it financially.

*Not talking about extremes where neglect is happening, obviously, but just general bad choices that we all make from time to time.

MC people just can’t accept the idea of the povos having nice things. I’m not exactly sure why - maybe because it narrows the gap between them, ruins their aesthetic (remember what happened to Burberry?) or makes them question their champagne socialism? 🤔

On a related note I studied a history of policing in Europe module at uni and spent weeks horrified by the content. Tl;dr policing has always been about keeping poor people (and other oppressed groups) in check. Vagrancy was and still is illegal. The poor can’t even have nothing without consequences. Everything they do is considered wrong

Schmaltz featured a lot in my grandmother's cooking. OK, she couldn't get Matzo meal at the time, but she made do with bashed up cream crackers instead.

  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons oil or chicken fat - schmaltz
  • 2 tablespoons soup stock or water
  • 1/2 cup matzah meal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Mix together, shape into dumplings, drop into chicken stock (which anybody with a big pan or a slow cooker should always make after roasting a chicken) with vegetables.

She uses this line so often. 'It's all im eating atm!' 'I eat it up like a greedy goblin' 'I have eaten 20 jars of mayo'

Except....you don't lose nearly 3 stone eating all this stuff? And were you not just living on Ramen the last few weeks??

I don't believe for one moment she eats the shite she peddles. I think she has a really hate for food. All the other cooks and chefs you see you can see it just makes them happy and they absolutely love it. For Jack i don't get that opinion. It's as if she's making all this 'delicious' food for show.

I don't know guys. Ive had enough. I am just so completely fed up of all the bullshit.
I completely agree - this just happened to be her way to muscle herself into the public eye. I also don't believe she has read a single one of the many recipe books she hoards, she knows absolutely duck all about cooking. The whole thing with her USP is so stupid anyway I don't know how she's got this far, who spends money on a physical recipe book knowing it contains things like 'buy Ainsley harriott dried soups and have a pot noodle when you're hungry'. Do you really need to purchase a book to realise that?!

Has Jack the food poverty campaigner never heard of a frigging food desert? 1.2 million people in the UK live where there is no easily accessible, affordable fresh food (I actually think this is a very conservative estimate, too).

If parents of children on FSM only live within accessible distance of, say, a Sainsbury's Local or a Tesco Extra, these food parcels are considerably better than what you could get for £15 in vouchers. The Sainsbury's Local by me is eye-wateringly expensive and the only things ever on offer are Pringles and Milkybar.

She just can't look past her own incredibly limited experience, with her badly costed recipes full of Basics-range ingredients which most local stores don't even stock.

Of course kids should be provided with nutritionally balanced meals but... these are?! Carbs, protein, fat, fibre. As long as they're not going hungry, does it matter if someone is making profit?

(incidentally, I don't agree with it being a profit-making exercise but Jack Monroe is the LAST person qualified to talk about the immorality of monetising poverty and misfortune). Honestly, duck her and her crappy attempts to muscle in on Marcus Rashford's amazing work.

I don't even like Tom Cruise but every time this GIF is posted I end up hypnotised, just watching it over and over until something in real life breaks the spell 😂😂😂
I really detest him but he's bloody attractive in this isn't he.

So I’ve just caught up at last! 🤣 I’m really angry, these food parcels are good for children who may get nothing. I’m sure they aren’t looking thinking “better not eat the biscuits”, not good for me. I think it’s totally fine as something that’s been put together quickly, after all we are in a pandemic Jack! I’m about the most opposite thing to a Tory you can get, so I’m not supporting them, but I think at least they’re getting food for just now. Long term another solution will need to be worked out

I think Marcus Rashford has been inspirational, well done him for showing how to go about it. I heard him speaking this morning and thought how proud his Mum must be, and I’ll admit I felt a bit teary.

So duck you Jack, this is not about you and nothing to do with you, so back off! When I give to the food bank I always try to give pet food, sanitary products, toothpaste and chocolate. Nobody should not have treats and a pet may be the only comfort they have.

Oh and @Silver Linings you have made me laugh tonight 🤣
